  1. I think there's some sort of bug where if Exported=yes in the .ini then the in-service dates may be ignored. Someone else may know more... The Jedi Master
  2. Greetings, shipmates.

WoV is great if you want to focus on the Nam era planes. If you have interest in the earlier or later ones as well, grab SFP1. It's better at a broad spectrum of planes and eras, but not as good in focusing on that era as WoV is. The Jedi Master
  3. Just when you thought you heard it all....

So, are they being sued by the same people for the same thing again? Or is this a different group, suing for the same thing? The Jedi Master
  4. I think I enjoyed F-19 far more. Partly because if I remember right, F-117 came out around the time of Falcon 3 and was overshadowed by it. Also, I never liked the Lockheed version because I was used to the F-19/MPS version where you could do AA missions. Like you said, too, it was too easy to tool around all day without getting spotted. Of course, the carrier ops was fun if wildly inaccurate! Favorite mission: bombing Typhoon pens in the Kola peninsula! :) The Jedi Master
  5. Air & Space Museum

The new place at Dulles is AMAZING. I was there back in May of 04, but they hadn't opened the space hall yet. All you could see was the Enterprise (the shuttle). I was so hyped to finally get to see an Ar 234! The Jedi Master
  6. 9600XT Upgrade

Well, seeing as the 9800 is a contemporary of the 5900, and the 6800GT is the same generation as the X800, it's not surprising at all. Also, the nvidia cards have historically been better in OpenGL games like Doom 3 and Il-2, while ATI are better in D3D games. The Jedi Master
  7. "Two weeks" has been the mantra for the past, oh, 10 weeks? The Jedi Master
  8. Wings Over Vietnam

No one will ever accuse the F-100 of being "a delight" to fly, but it sure looks mean doing it! ;) Especially that shark-like profile, from the side and head-on! The Jedi Master
  9. Need some assistance

Having been through 3 'canes last year, as well as living at ground zero for Andrew back in '92, I know how you feel. I can't really think of anything to tell you, honestly. You're sort of at the mercy of forces far greater than you. The Jedi Master
  10. MadJeff checkin' in!

I'd say for many people, even old schoolers like myself, flight simming is no longer the consuming passion it used to be. Other stuff keeps interrupting! The Jedi Master
  11. Cable modem service can't get here fast enough.

I'd say nearly every website that I've visited has at one point or another "changed" in a way that more people than not will agree was not for the better. From SimHQ and Combatsim all the way back to the pre-www days of CIS, Delphi, and Prodigy. Unfortunately, nothing stays the same forever, and people that are used to a particular way will often drift away when that happens. Nothing to do about it but hope the changes will be minimally disruptive. The Jedi Master
  12. Personally I would classify "Cold War" planes as being the post-WWII, pre-"teen" series jets, generally 1945-1970. So planes like the F-86, F-104, F-4 were Cold War, but F-14, F-16, B-1, etc are modern day. Planes from that era that are still around like B-52, C-130, C-5, etc can go based on the skins included with it I suppose. The Jedi Master
  13. Lomac

It's fun flying at low altitude! The Jedi Master
  14. The quick and dirty of it is: Yes, there's a no CD. It's not a new .exe, it's a .dll replacement. You can patch just fine with it installed, the CD isn't needed for patching. One lasted all of Il-2. When FB came out, it needed a new one that lasted through AEP and its patches. When PF came out, it required yet another one. That has lasted through all of its patches. Actually, I'm glad it's not an .exe type, because that would mean each patch requires a new one. As for where to get it, I can't remember where I got mine, it was a link on a forum somewhere as it never showed up at the standard no-CD sites I visit. For the record, I HATE CD-based CP and support keys/codes/whatever instead so you can leave the stupid things in their cases and still be just as secure. I have them for about 50% of my games, where it was easy to do. Some have real tough CP (like the Starforce-protected ones) or are too big a PITA to do (like the BF42/BFV ones) or screw up MP file checks (CFS3 and F1C 99-02 are among those) so I'm forced to use the CD there. 15. The A-5 should be a natural for this community--as it's a "modded" MiG-19!
  16. Ideally, there shouldn't be a "max" for the game, just for the plane you're flying. That said, there's no WAY a Viggie should have been able to get over 100k! You should've have a flame out much lower, but I can't recall if SFP1 simulates that or how it handles max altitude. Maybe one of the FM modders could step in and describe it. The Jedi Master
  17. I've got 4.02m (with AEP and PF) of Il-2, and I haven't the faintest idea how to do a "fly any plane" mod for it! :) Conversely, any non-flyable plane in SFP1/WoV can be made flyable with a couple of quick edits. The Jedi Master
  18. Are we to guess then that you had no stability troubles with your prior card, whatever that may be? I mean, there are a myriad possible number of reasons for instability in games (I also take it that while SFP1 is the one it happens to you most in, it does happen elsewhere). Have you looked to see if any of your fans in your case have failed, thereby having an overheating problem? Have you done a thorough virus/spyware check? If it IS the card, the 9600 isn't the newest card out there, did you get it used? Is it possible the card itself is physically damaged? While in Windows cards don't heat up much, but once in a game that temp will skyrocket, so a loose heatsink or failing fan on the card will hurt you. Um...I think it boils down to "need more info" before we can give you more than simple generalities like Fubar and myself have done. ;) The Jedi Master
  19. I take it amazon.uk doesn't have it? Have you tried gogamer.com? I think they're cheaper shipping than that... The Jedi Master
  20. SFP1 and WoV are great games in that they're the ultimate "sandboxes" for flight. Il-2 and LOMAC you have to fly what they give you, but here you can do what you want, when you want, where you want. :) The Jedi Master
  21. I believe they have them (as targets) in Il-2, but you can't fly one. Would love to try and get that monster in the air! The Jedi Master
  22. RAAF F18 Super Hornet

Heh, like require 10x the maintenance time at 10x the cost. Let's put it this way: a former F-14 pilot who now flies the Super Hornet (actually, he was involved in the test program) at SimHQ, Chunx, said he'd take the Super Bug into combat over the F-14 anyday. You can armchair general all you want, but the guys that are THERE say it's better, and I'll take their word for it. The Jedi Master
  23. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force Patch

Flew some last night in an MP campaign with this patch, no issues so far. The Jedi Master
  24. A Few Good Men

I'll tell you in 20 mins, when the DL is done! :) [edit]Well, neat! Wasn't expecting LOTR music at the end, though! :) [edit] The Jedi Master
  25. Typhoon vs 2 Eagles...

Don't read too much into that Indian engagement, either. That was carefully staged to test the IAF's setup. They had GCI, AWACS, and multiple groups of fighters up while the USAF had nothing but a few F-15s operating different tactics than usual with no GCI or AWACS support. Their defeat is almost foregone in that case. The Jedi Master
