Your Favorite Third Wire Sim and Why?
MigHound replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wings Over Europe would have to be my favourite, thus far. I like it, most, for the simple fact that, in it's unmodded state, it encompasses the era of fighter aircraft that interests me, most... specifically being the 1970s and onward. This allows me to fly F-15s, A-10s and Harriers. probably the three most intriguing fighters of that specific era. The other reason for liking WoE, is the theoretical conventional conflict scenario, between NATO and WP nations, in Europe. Mind you, I love the Vietnam terrain, especially with the lush, Green Hell II tree mod. SFP1, WoV and WoI all have interesting traits, about them. but I guess, as of the Oct'08 patch, the entire line are more or less, technically identical, it's just up to the user, as to which theatre of operations they wish to engage in. -
Playing WoE, I don't really tend to stick with one nation. If I feel like flying a Tornado IDS, I'll be German for that particular mission. Then I'll jump into an EF-2000 and be a Brit pilot. Being Canadian, I will fly the CF-104, (eagerly awaiting a Canadian skin for the 101B ), and fly the CF-188A Hornet, on the odd occasion. Daring to dream, I did put together a half-assed skin set for the F-23 Black Widow II

...maybe, it'll replace the default "Firecan" Radar, as viable targets in post 2000 CAS missions. XD -

Heh... ya beat me to it. Yeah, someone's gotta come up with some modern armour to throw in the CAS missions post 2000. Preferably something that shoots back more than radio waves. -
I can't wait for a "Functional" version of Quicktime. Installed it just to see the bloody trailer. So far zippo. Thanks guys you all reminded me why I refuse to have quicktime or any other apple software on my system. I'll wait for the damned thing to hit Youtube.

The Official Sept/Oct Patch Thread
MigHound replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Does anyone know if the syntax of.... VERY_RARE RARE COMMON VERY_COMMON ...in the DATA.INI files of each aircraft still followed in the new october 2008 patch?? I've been running the game with the Oct-2008b patch, and noted something odd. For (Single Mission), in selected year (1986-87) out of 30 some odd (intercept) engagements, all the aircraft spawned are the same. To be more specific... in four missions back to back, there are variations. After that the cycle repeats. The only enemy AI aircraft, in the missions are (without fail..) mission 1 = HAL Marut mission 2 = L-39 Albatross mission 3 = MiG-23M mission 4 = MiG-23MS The odd occasion I'll get friendly AI planes on the map... they are as follows... F-14A Tomcat EA-6A Prowler Mirage F-1C Again they are the only ones spawned in each mission... I have over 275 available aircraft in the game... I'm positive over 60% of those are available for this selected time period. Why only these seven? I'm wondering if the aforementioned syntax in the data files might have something to do with it... Anyone with suggestions?? Much thanks and take care... -
Weapons Pack

So, does this install mean, I will have to do this fresh install procedure, again with the "WOE_Update_Oct2008b" patch?? -
I just had a brilliant idea.
MigHound posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
With all the planes and other materials that has been lovingly created for this simulation. Why not create a mod for WOx, so that the player can select a Nation to play, and create an "Air Forces profile", for that nation. It could be based in reality, or aircraft of the players preference. The player could select aircraft, to fill the slot of a particular role, of the 'dream air force'. A slot would be made available for each role for fixed wing... air superiority, multi-role, ground attack, bombers, recon, fac, ew, refuellers, cargo, support, and anything in between that I'm not thinking of. Same would go for the nations' heli fleet... attack, sar, support, anti-ship... whatever....... Once the player has selected the air force of their choosing, the profile is saved and that is the inventory the player must make effective use of, to defeat other opponents, either AI, or multiplayer. Any input? -

Working on Japan/China/Korea/Russian Terrain
MigHound replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I dunno, China has a wide variety of climates and terrain types. If you go as far inland as Hunan and Hubei, there are steep, lush forested mountains, further north, you get into desert territory. The further south and west you go, there is all kinds of farmland. I'd have to say, you'll need all three types of terrain from the SFP/WOx series. Desert, GermanyCE and VietnamSEA. You might want to have someone design Chinese ethnic architecture, including high rise buildings for populating your city areas. -
How to merge WOI/WOE/WOV etc
MigHound replied to avi8tor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well... considering, SFP, WOx, have all been updated, to approximately a singular standard, with perhaps the exception of the avionics of WOI, I would expect its a simple shuffling of folders over to the desired flight sim you wish to incorporate. For the sake of an example... the sim you wish to keep playing is WOE, so you'd need to copy over WOI's planes, weapons, merge the weapondata.ini into WOE... copy over the terrain, the missions, and the ground objects, and merge the groundobjects.ini file. Theoretically, it should do the trick. -
Sneak Peak: Water Shader 2.0

Absolutely exquisite. Looking forward to it, as the flickeriness of the water glitch in the 2008 update is making my eyes bug out. -
The Official Sept/Oct Patch Thread
MigHound replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thank God... or who ever wrote the weapons editor... the transition to the Sept '08 update was made much easier. So far, I've added the MF WOI Weapons pack, merged the weaponsdata.ini from Bunyap's weapons pack, re-applied the WOE/WOV trees mods, the WOE/WOV Airfield lights mod and everything seems to be running well. I have yet to see how the loadouts will look on Russian aircraft, as I have had to re-label most of them with 'R' designations, as opposed to 'AA' designations. I may have to edit their loadouts, again, depending on how they interact with the new MF weapon pack. Yeah, the water flicker is a bit annoying, but, the populated airfields well, make up for it. :drinks_drunk: The only thing that really bothers me are the aircraft with functional canopies. They are always open, when in flight... any way to fix that, or do I have to edit their respective Data.ini files, to keep them closed?? Overall, it's a really awesome update, bringing it to the WOI standard, with just a couple minor bugs to be ironed out. Love it Guys!!! Absolutely love it... keep it up!! -

Nice piece of work, thanks, man. About time, someone got creative with that particular bird. I'd love to see Falcon161's idea come to life. -
last but not least, and most importantly, one of those chrome "Haulin' A$$" Pin up chicks So dem rednecks can represent, yo.

You know damn well, this is only part of the make over for this Warthog. The kit will include ground effects, those super shiny chrome hubcaps with the little spinny thingies in them, and one of those hydraulic systems in the nose gear to make the front of the plane bounce up and down. you just watch.

This is making me crazy.
MigHound replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I will get this effect, too, from time to time, for WOE, and other games. I find it is caused by jumping out of one game, and eventually starting another, with no booting or not having refreshed system resources. Windows of any version, never did have very efficient memory management. For example, One day, I had just finished playing a bout at Battlefield 2142, then after a few minutes I'd play some Battlefield 2. The graphics would not even initiate, when came time for gameplay. Just a hunch, try rebooting, and play the sim, while your system is still fresh. -
Is there any way to set up, the game to run wave files or mp3s of music, or even get it to read music CDs while flying missions? I remember EF-2000 & TAW, both used CD Audio, for the music in those games. It'd be cool to set up a play list to groove while flyin' around. thanks.
