I'm glad it's over. I can only take so much dark drama. Week in and week out just got to be a chore to watch. Not that it was not a good show but ol' Walt Disney once said you need a laugh for every tear. BSG was woefully short on laughs.

THIRD WIRE FEATURES
DoctorQuest replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
more tools...... These sims were built to be modded. Having a more robust toolset would get more folks involved. STUPID REQUEST: Allow enemy levels to be set to 0 in Create Flight. It'd be a quick way to generate a Free Flight type experience with any flyable aircraft over any terrain you have installed. -
Leonard Nimoy gave it a thumbs up on a recent radio show he was on. Good enough for me. ST needs a breath of fresh air and I, too, am a fan of Abrams other work.

Yes, I think some of it is simple "sticker shock". We, as a community, have gotten a bit spoiled in regards to freeware. And the worst of us are probably the ones who have never worked on a mod and do not understand the tremendous number of hours it takes to produce even a simple one. To be brutally honest I simply can't afford OFF right now. Games are at the top of my "luxuries" list and are the first thing to go when the going gets tough. And I have more sims right now than I have time to play. I recently got back into F-22 Total Air War and it's substantial modding community. I have ODS to play with. I have only touched the surface of MAW for CFS3. Nice problems to have :)

No. It would be nice. I would not pay for it. -
Removing radar screen
DoctorQuest replied to Delta6Actual's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can also just delete the entire entry for the radar screen. The sim does not mind. -
Dark Canopy question
DoctorQuest replied to Atreides's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
See if there is an f86reflect*.tga in the cockpit folder. A lot of folks use that file to dim the canopy. The file can be safely deleted. Otherwise it might be an issue similar to the A-6 in WOV after the first patch. The LOD file apparently has a transparency value for the canopy that dims it somewhat. This cannot be changed without having access to the source files for the LOD. -
Suggestions or Solutions Anyone?
DoctorQuest replied to Piecemeal's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You will most likely want to go to your laptop vendor. You can also try Intel. Microsoft will have a driver but it will be only the most basic functions (they provide just enough of a driver to get the system up with basic graphics.) -
Suggestions or Solutions Anyone?
DoctorQuest replied to Piecemeal's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I hate graphics drivers!! I agree it looks like a driver problem. I have tried to upgrade by Nvidia drivers for my 6800 and it always seems I hit problems that force me to regress to a previous version. -
Getting full throttle throw with CH Pro Throttle?
DoctorQuest replied to SGCSG1's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
The Default.ini member in the Control(s) folder has settings to control dead zone, sensitivitiy, etc. I have found modifying the dead zone for my throttle a bit solves a similar problem. -
WOV No Worky..... new guy needs help
DoctorQuest replied to snake_1221's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
I would start with going to the Microsoft web site and finding the absolute lastest version of Directx. (yes, it will be 9.0 but there have been many small updates to directx.) -
CH Pro pedals config wheelbrakes to WOV/WOI?
DoctorQuest replied to Madprof's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sorry. You need to load the map and then download it to the devices. (There is a download icon on the main control manager panel.) For me it's just not worth it. TW sims do not model brakes the way something like MSFS does. It's almost easier and more usable just to map the "B" key to a joystick or throttle button. I was hoping someone with more CH programming experience than I have (and more free time) would come up with a better idea. -
This is very sad. I guess we get accused of a "cowboy mentality" here in the states but I'm not apologizing for it. We recently had an incident here where some punks pulled a gun on a shop owner. The shop owner was also armed and shot both of them in self-defense. He was cleared as having justification for using deadly force. End of story. Yes, I feel for the families of the victims but what do you expect when you threaten someone with a gun. You can't fix stupid.

He's the man! I am not at all surprised that he is well on top of it. Thanks for the update. -
F-117A
DoctorQuest replied to Trancer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yup. You may need to make an additional circuit to reduce airspeed or bank back and forth a bit to lose airspeed. I actually land at closer to 155-160 knots. The real F-117 also has a braking chute. I find the wheel brakes work just fine since I don't foot the bill for brake work All in all a great aircraft and one of my personal favorites. Hats off to Marcelo for his efforts on this one. I'm sure it is not the easiest aircraft to model. -
which weapon pack?
DoctorQuest replied to squid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just to clarify. Do you really need the editor to make the weapons available? I thought the weapon pack install gave you a new weapondata.ini. I can understand needing the editor to change the weapons. Or does this differ with the various packs? -

CH Pro pedals config wheelbrakes to WOV/WOI?
DoctorQuest replied to Madprof's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have uploaded a MAP and CMS file that shows ONE way to do it. (Awaiting approval.) It is not fancy but it does work. The one issue is that brakes are a toggle in TW sims and you will need to manually release the brakes the first time when starting on the ground. After that the toe function works ok. -
CH pedal MAP file for toe brakes
DoctorQuest posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: CH pedal MAP file for toe brakes File Submitter: kirbykern File Submitted: 31 Jan 2009 File Category: SF/WO*/FE Joystick Config Files This is probably just one way to do it. The one problem with it is that since B is a toggle I need to manually disengage the brakes when taking off from a runway. After that, press down on the toe will engage the brake, release the toe will disengage. Unzip both files and load the map into CH Control Manager and download. Intended to be a sample. Click here to download this file -

It should work just fine. I was using a gameport yoke with CH USB throttles and pedals with no problems. You will need the Control Manager software to configure the pedals.
