Mixed Feelings on DCS
DoctorQuest replied to JediMaster's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I will not spend any more money with ED. Period. I have plenty of other sims to keep me busy and I don't have to muck around with sound settings to get them to run right. I could go on and on, but I've burdened others with my tale. I will leave it at this. -
How do you take off from a carrier in WoE single missions?
DoctorQuest replied to SkyStrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
AFAIK, there is no way to do this. While the aircraft carrier has some properties of an airfield I don't think the sim considers it as a start point regardless of the aircraft type. Question: Do you have WOV installed as well? It has a carrier take off mission you could use. Otherwise if I was at home I could whip up a quick mission that would do what you want. The bottom line is you will have to build a mission to do this. Not hard as they are text files, but it will take a little effort. -
why are separate installs neccessary
DoctorQuest replied to jack72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It's fairly easy to look at a new campaign as an entirely new game. Given that, when you look at how many "games" have been generated using the TW engines we are getting quite a bang for our buck. I absolutely agree that you can eat up a lot of disk space, but I would also wonder if the majority of that space is "new" material (aircraft, etc.) specific to that campaign so even a merged install would not buy you that much. Probably depends on the campaign. Anyway, in the last week or so I've gotten a free Harrier sim and a free Korean war sim. Disk space is a small price to pay IMHO. -

DoctorQuest replied to vrkuboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Woohoo!! Who's working on the avionics? Be interesting to see if we can adapt the A-10 TV display to this bird. -
I believe it would be then end of the universe as we know it.

This might help.... http://www.helis.com/types/gunship.php Good synopsis. Vietnam is really where the gunship came into its own. This is pretty good, too.. http://www.korean-war.com/KWAircraft/index.html

Gents, I think we have sighting of the new game...
DoctorQuest replied to allenjb42's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm in as well. I am having a blast with all of the TW sims and have just started poking around with minor modding. (Trying to build a side by side cockpit for the Skyknight....) The TW sims have let me fly planes I only dreamed of: F-100, A-4, A-6, A-7, etc. This plus the fact that I have been very frustrated with other modern aircraft sims and TW will get my sim dollars going forward for some time to come.) (Just wish TK would accidentally release the avionics DLL for the F-22......) -
SFP1 Patches - Need some clarification
DoctorQuest replied to London 1940's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Oh. I do, too. It's just I stumbled across that fact that the lastest weapons pack would not work without the lastest greatest patches. I did not have an issue with the KAW mod, per se. -
SFP1 Patches - Need some clarification
DoctorQuest replied to London 1940's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
TW has rolled up some of the earlier service packs into a single patch. Go here. http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_sfp1.htm There are basically now just two patches to bring SFP1 up to speed. (As I understand it.) I had the same issue trying to get the Korean Air War campaign up and running. -
Where is the Korea terrain?
DoctorQuest posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Ok. I am sorry. I did do a search and got 20 pages of results. (Does the search work??) I have tried looking through the terrain downloads. If it is there I am missing it. Thanks for any help. kk -

Where is the Korea terrain?
DoctorQuest replied to DoctorQuest's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Looks like I have to buy the terrain at Razbam's?? (Tempting, but not in the budget right now.) It might help to have a note in the readme to that effect. Just a suggestion... -
Problems related to Mission Start dates & loadouts in WoE
DoctorQuest replied to SkyStrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It's the OPTIONS.INI file that is driving your issue, not the aircraft.ini (although that has to be set up correctly as well.) -
So a decent movie, eh?
