Timing for WOI?
DoctorQuest replied to tmdgm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wings Over Iowa -
The only practical way to do this would be to have the cars be computer controlled in certain classes of airspace. Having folks flying around willy-nilly would be a disaster waiting to happen. Of course, if you get out of crowded airspace you might be able to allow folks "manual" control of the thing. We're probably at the "automobiles will never replace horses" stage of this debate. We may never see true flying cars but we may end up seeing something we can't imagine yet as a result of all the research.

Yes, I can believe that. Damn it. I manage to survive until the 21st century and I still don't have my jetpack or flying car.

The real thing or a sim thereof?
-
They are excellent helicopter sims, but I alway find myself playing something else. I am not sure I have heard of any mods. I'll have to re-install and poke around a bit to see if they lend themselves to that. They did some good stuff to overcome the problems with flying a helicopter with only a monitor as your window to the world. The "DOWN" view and auto-hover can be a real help when landing. They also put out an Apache sim that, while good in the FM dept, was kind of an arcade game in terms of weapons and missions. Again, nothing really compelling about the title to bring me back to it.

I disagree with it from a philosophical standpoint, but I have had 0 technical issues with the download version. -
Harrier Campaign by JSF_Aggie Question
DoctorQuest replied to Atreides's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I thought one major reason was that the terrain is modified so that standard SFP1 campaigns and missions will not work. -

DoctorQuest replied to Bryn's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Agreed. I just installed in on my XP laptop and it worked fine. I think I did read somewhere that you should uncheck the MUSIC option when you do the install on XP. -

Turning Target Box Color from Red to Clear...
DoctorQuest replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
The other option is to simply delete this entry from the HUDATA.INI. None of the TW sims have an issue with doing this. -
Should bug reports still go to SimHQ?
DoctorQuest posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
A couple of us have hit some minor bugs with the Korean Campaign. 1. The USS Oriskany does not appear to be included in the download but is referenced in the campaign files. Tends to make for a short flight when trying to start from the carrier 2. Error in the Korean War_DATA.ini [AIRUNIT025] AircraftType=Au-1 <------------- change this to F4U-4 to get the carrier based corsair Squadron=VF-53 StartDate=7/1/1950 -

WOE. I have all of them and this is the one I always come back to.

Jazz and Blues, mostly, but I have an eclectic taste in pop. I care less about the artist these days than whether I just like the music or not. Listen to streaming jazz and jazz mp3s most of the time I'm at work. I like Hearts of Space (google it) for its very interesting musical offerings.

Mixed Feelings on DCS

I will not spend any more money with ED. Period. I have plenty of other sims to keep me busy and I don't have to muck around with sound settings to get them to run right. I could go on and on, but I've burdened others with my tale. I will leave it at this. -
How do you take off from a carrier in WoE single missions?
DoctorQuest replied to SkyStrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
AFAIK, there is no way to do this. While the aircraft carrier has some properties of an airfield I don't think the sim considers it as a start point regardless of the aircraft type. Question: Do you have WOV installed as well? It has a carrier take off mission you could use. Otherwise if I was at home I could whip up a quick mission that would do what you want. The bottom line is you will have to build a mission to do this. Not hard as they are text files, but it will take a little effort. -
why are separate installs neccessary
DoctorQuest replied to jack72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It's fairly easy to look at a new campaign as an entirely new game. Given that, when you look at how many "games" have been generated using the TW engines we are getting quite a bang for our buck. I absolutely agree that you can eat up a lot of disk space, but I would also wonder if the majority of that space is "new" material (aircraft, etc.) specific to that campaign so even a merged install would not buy you that much. Probably depends on the campaign. Anyway, in the last week or so I've gotten a free Harrier sim and a free Korean war sim. Disk space is a small price to pay IMHO. -

Woohoo!! Who's working on the avionics? Be interesting to see if we can adapt the A-10 TV display to this bird.
