US Navy numbers
drdoyo replied to drdoyo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Not a problem Southernap, it's just an entry in the decal.ini to use the correct series number. The only thing is that they will have to be numbered 400 - 424 since I'm using the original numbers from the CAT file. I'm using the originals because I can't seem to make an alpha channel that works. I have an old copy of PSP6 that was transferred through about 3 hard drives now, and bought PSP XI just to figure out the alpha channels again. I've been trying to work on deciphering how to make alphas that will work in game for a FA-18 skin that I've been working on since mid October, but the alphas are prooving to be smarter than me and not cooperating -

US Navy numbers

This is another symptom of the decal system that I was intending to address with the decal pack. I found that the campaign uses decals numbered 000 to 099, and usually a higher number (ex 070-078 for an 8 ship flight). That was why I was seeing 400 series numbers on the VF-1 F-14s. The USNFighter decals in the CAT file are broken down so that 000-024=100s, 025-049=200s, 050-074=300s, and 075-099=400s. What I've been doing is simply renaming the USN decals from the CAT file and repeating the 25 decal set so each series (100,200 etc) numbers 000 to 099. The pack, once I finish it, will just need to be placed into the Objects/Decal folder, and the skin's decal.ini modified with the new modex entries. The result is correctly numbered (ex 100-124,200-224,300-324 and so on) squadron aircraft in single mission as well as the campaigns. -

A-10A Version 3.0

Thanks in advance guys. Great work! -
Well, Here's my take. Everyone has to be a registered member just to download anyway. While I do understant the concept as it applies to the modders I still do disagree with the concept. I painted some carrier based F4U-1D skins for CFS2 a couple of years ago, and personally I found it gratifying just to see how many times my skins were downloaded, and which of them were downloaded the most......that was thanks enough for me. But that's just my opinion, and everyone IS entitled to an opinion.

Anybody got this problem?
drdoyo replied to ColdBlood's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Check your file names and paths and make sure they match what is in the (aircraft).ini. I've had this with a few planes and solved them all. Usually it was a slight difference in file name or path which left the aircraft with no skin, hense the product of your screen shot. Also I once had a MiG-23M that I had accidentally installed a texture set which was for a different 3D model, but that shouldn't be the case fr your F-14 there as if I'm not mistaken the Mirage Factory's is the only F-14 3D mesh at this time. Hope that solves your problem. -
F-14A Altimeter
drdoyo posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
First let me say that I love the Tomcat!! Thanks to Mirage Factory! One thing has been really bugging me though,.... the altimeter. The roll dials that show the ten thousands, thousands and hundreds of feet are not working correctly. The white dial which should show hundreds does not move from zero when it should agree with the needle. The two black dials which should show thousands and ten thousands actually show hundreds and thousands. This effectually renders the altimeter useless. I've been trying to find how to fix this, but can't seem to find the value anywhere. Anyone know what I'm missing? ....and yes I did search the knowlege base. Thanks -

Thanks for the reply rhugouvi!! In fact I did find the problem this morning and fixed it before my second post. As it turns out it was actually a problem in the cockpit LOD file. There are 3 values there for the altimeter and using a hex editor and some trial and error with switching the alt callouts in the lod (alt_dig1,alt_dig2,alt_dig3) . These calloute are referenced by the line CounterNodeFormat=alt_dig%d in the F-14 cockpit.ini in the altimeter section. I wouldn't have thought to check that if not for a flap problem with an old MiG-23M beta where the outer wing flaps didn't work.....I got them to work first when I looked at the node callout and it's association with the LOD file. I was just curious if anyone might be interested in the fix being posted, or if it is only annoying to real pilots -

Wow, 65 views and not even 1 reply. I guess I'm the only one bothered by this enough to want to see it fixed and try to get the info to fix it. ..... ok.
