  1. DLC #006 is out!

Is the new F14 game going to based in the Pacific? Just wondering because there does seem to be a Pacific bent with some of the DLCs i.e this one and the 2 A4s. Might they get campaigns?
  2. Space shuttle

Watched the live feed from NASA with a class of thirteen year olds (I'm a science teacher), they had a lot of questions. The ones about the science of space flight were much easier to answer than the ones about the politics of space flight.
  3. RAF over Libya news Video

The Tiffie pilots tend, I believe, to be ex-Tornado F3 pilots whilst the GR4 Tornado crews do ground pounding as their bread and butter. So 'kit' issues aside it makes sense to pair them up from that perspective.
  4. F-14

Try telling that to Goose's widow.
  5. F-14

Ejecting from an F14 is a dangerous affiar, remember what happened to Goose.
  6. Mexican Swine Flu claims first celebrity victim

I'm going to get a bit boring here, but I can't help it I'm a biologist. One of the reasons that new strains of flu are taken so seriously is the possibility that the new strain will be capable of causing something called a 'cytokine storm' an OTT immune response, this was seen in the 1918 flu which is why it killed so many of the young and fit. Flu strains like can be most harmful to the young and fit (and ecconomically most productive) and not to the 'weakest' in the general sense. New flu strain are also concerning as flu viruses have two properties that make them predisposed to pandemics, they are easily transmissible and they mutate rapidly. Other viruses such as Ebola whilst horrendous tend to be more localised and have less potential to go global. Sooner or later ( I hope the later) there will be a flu pandemic of the sort that happened in 1918, of course we now live in a different world we have better treatment and tracking capability but we also live in a more connected world. It is not scaremungering to treat this with seriousness. The catch 22 with a flu pandemic is that by the time you would have enough evidence to know that it would be 'the big one' it would be too late to do anything about it. Even though the probability of any particular strain becoming a serious pandemic is low the potential harm if it does is very high, which is why sensible precautions are so important. All that said there is no doubt that the media and polititans just don't get the subtles involved. There has been much misinformation, both inflating and denial of the actual risk. It is also sickening how some have profiteered from the situation.
  7. It would be groovy to locate, lock and lase ground targets, not just use the magic E button.
  8. For what it's worth I was very impressed by the DS mod, so much so that I was happy to hit the ol' paypal. However guess what there are things that I either would have liked or would have like different or are not quite as 'good' as I would like but I wont be bitching 'cos: -I have sufficent brain power to realise what a massive undertaking this was and so don't expect it to conform to my idea of perfection. -I don't believe that the world revolves around me, so if there are areas I'm not fully 'happy' with, so effing what! Alas it seems some can't get those 2 key points. Pay no attention to lifes eternal critics and whinners, they still wouldn't be happy if you had gone round their house installed the mod for them, tuned it to their particular wants and let them violate your sister while they waited. Stuff 'em.
  9. Too effing true. Those beagles are a nightmare, best plan is to use those sweeping gun attacks you honned in IL2 to avoid ubi-gunners.
  10. Remembering Dr. King

'It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important. ' Not one of Dr King's most poetic statements but one that has always haunted me because of it's pragmatism. 'I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word. ' I share that belief but as the great man said. 'Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. '
  11. Nellis temporary shutdown

If the chap turns out to be mentally ill which seems quite likely then shooting him would have been quite tragic, although understandable under the circumstances. Seem they did a good job here and I hope he gets treatment (if this is the case). If it turns out that he did know exactly what he was doing and is just a twat then I hope they throw the book at him.
  12. You can also get to it by selecting games from the windows menu then right click on Strikefighters 2, you will get saved games as an option click it.
  13. Glad you put that, I had a missing dx10.dll when I tried to run it. Luckily I read this thread before making myself look silly (easily done) by asking about it. Cheers.
  14. Famous WW2 quotations

Not famous (or serious) but a favorite of mine, from an RAF squadron leader. 'A moustach is only a moustach if it can be seen from behind.'
  15. Looking for IL2 Squad

Shameless plug alert! Get yourself over to www.battle-fields.com We have an active forum and 3 servers of varying difficulty (UK dedicated 1,2,3 on hyperlobby). We are not a squad but you will usually find someone willing to show you the ropes. Best advice I can give you is. 1) Get on teamspeak. 2) On a new server let people know you are new to il2 online, most players will then give you some support and cut you abit of slack, if they don't well it's probably not the sort of server you want to hang around on anyway. Good luck. WM.
  16. cfs3 firepower

Beinging an general flight sim fanboi as opposed to a sim specific one I say get 'em all. If you have the cash there is no harm in having cfs3 and il2 on the ol' harddrive. Firepower does improve cfs3 alot, makes it what it should have been on release. Both have strengths and weaknesses. Where il2 is (IMO) superior is in the online aspect, I'd go as far as saying there is no competition when it comes to online. Cfs3 used to hold the edge in terms or modding i.e you could add stuff. Although that is less of an issue now that il2 has been 'cracked' and is 'moddable'.
  17. Meself and some of the other half-wits at www.battle-fields.com (home of the UK dedicated IL2 servers) have started experimenting with WoI co-ops. Would any of you estimed jet heads have any advice for us prop monkies?
  18. Multiplayer WoI

Ooops just realsied Vapour, one of said prop-monkies has already posted here. Sorry for spamminess, still interested in any hints, tips etc you fellas might have though.
  19. Hi folks. As well as being a CombatACE lurker I'm an admin and syndicate member for the UK dedicated IL2 servers, recently there has been a slow patch on UK2 so I'm putting the word out abit. I know I'm biased but I think we offer some of the best maps and scenarios on IL2 DF servers, we try to provide objective based teamplay (lots for the ground pounders) with a big variety and an eye to historical accuracy. Settings wise it goes. UK1 Relaxed settings, externals and no-cockpit view enabled, map icon and plane labels. UK2 Externals enabled but not no-cockpit (wonder woman), map icon, limited friendly labels. UK3 As UK2 but no externals. UK2 Is my favorite I concider it a kind of 'best of both worlds' easy to get into but with proper historic maps/missions. Also a top bunch of regulars. Unfortunatly number fell off abit recently and it would be nice to build it up again. So if you like abit of IL2 and that appeals come give it a go. Visit www.battle-fields.com for more info. Thanks for your time, [bFs]Whirlin. P.S Hyperlobby only shows players who join by HL so the server maybe fuller than it appears in HL.
  20. International Space Station

Not what your after but well worth a look is; http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/main/index.html Click on the Interactive Space Staition Reference Guide link on the right. Then goto the ISS 360 tour it's rather cool.
  21. Just installed it and had a quicky! Nice. I have a mate who used to flick the switches in the 'back' of Vulcans and Victors, I'll have to show him it.
  22. Where did the pirate keep his buccaneers? Under his buccanhat.
  23. Chavez vows revenge for Falklands war

I'd like to he how he's going to sink a navy we don't have any more! Damm bean-counters, politicians and cut-backs.
