Nothing like a little perspective! It really takes a special breed to be a cop, and I admire and respect each and every one of those who wear the uniform with integrity and professionalism. In the old Indian tradition, (Native American for those born after 1975) those who served on what was the equivalent of the police force were given equal honor with those who fought for the people on the field of battle. That tradition continues to this day. We honor all our warriors.

Alphasim F-8 Crusader is released!
Sledge replied to navychief's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator
Hey Chief! Thanks for posting that. I went and got the F-8 and the Enterprise to land on. Dang! This 'Sader is eating my lunch. I stayed up till LATE trying to trap, and only got aboard twice. Good thing I was having a great time doing it! I should change my name here to something like "ramp strike" or "bolter" or something! I have always loved the F-8. This is certainly a gorgeous example! -
Hey Dagger! Long time! I have had orbiter for quite some time and it really is cool! I am especially fond of the Apollo era, so I went to AVSIM, and downloaded the SaturnV. If you had a flight plan of any of the Apollo missions, you could fly any of them in real time! So far, I've made it as far as launch, trans lunar injection, and transpositon and docking, and LEM extraction. I just don't have time to devote to an entire mission! There are alot fun things you can do with the program, and alot of add-ons to download for it. If you like space stuff, here is the web site for Eagle lander 3d. Its an Apollo lunar lander simulator. http://eaglelander3d.com/ See ya bud! -Sledge

I can't seem to join online now, and everyone seems to be running v1.1. I have'nt seen a patch called 1.1, so I 'm assuming that v1.1 is what you get after installing flaming cliffs. I am running 1.02 right now, and as far as I know thats the latest patch. Is this accurate, or am I missing something? Thanks! - Sledge

O.K.! That explains that then. Thanks Brit Radar Dude. - Sledge

I don't think I've seen such fine screenshot art EVER! You guys are really doing some impressive work. Definitely taking the screenshot to a whole new level. Carry on! - Sledge

Dang, Dagger! That Hornet is gorgeous! Where'd you get it? I gotta have one! Oh, and did you find a realistic panel for it? Thanks! - Sledge out.

I know it sounds strange, but you get used to it. I find myself trying to change views with my head even when I'm not flying a sim that supports it. It makes all the difference, especially in air-combat sims! I love my track IR, and I am planning on upgrading to the newest version as soon as I can cut loose some extra cash.

Nesher, you come up with the coolest videos! Thanks for passing these along, and keep up the good work! - Sledge

Hey Foo, I had a similar problem with the dogfight switch on my Cougar throttle. When I took it apart I found that the housing for the switch was made of plastic and had cracked. I found some really small zip ties and wrapped them around the switch. It has been working like that for over a year. You may want to give that a try, as what you describe sounds just like how that switch felt on my unit before I fixed it. Good luck. - Sledge

What is THE best HOTAS joystick/throttle combo ou
Sledge replied to pcpilot's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
Hey PC, I've been using a Thrustmaster Cougar for a couple of years now. Yes, I've had to replace all the pots in the stick and the throttle, however, they were provided to me from thrustmaster free of charge. Yeah, kind of a hassle but I really love this setup. There's just nothing like the feeling of cold metal in your hand. The heft, the metal buttons, the fact they dont slide around on my desk when I'm bankin and yankin, all make this stick worth the occasional soldering I've had to do. I also got a set of hall sensors to replace the pots in the units, and as soon as these pots start to wear out I'm going to replace them, making them the last I'll have to replace. Here is the website for those kits: http://cubpilotshangar.net/ Depending on how deep you wanna get in to this, the Cougar programming possibilities can be down right dizzying. You can, of course use it as a simple direct X unit as well. Hope that helps! Happy trails! - Sledge -

LOL!! Ok Nesher, I guess I'll just have to work through all of 'em. Oh well, someone's gotta do it I guess. So many videos, so little time.... he, he.

Hey Nesher, thanks for the treasure trove of LOMAC videos! I seem to have a hard time finding these since netwings quit hosting them. Any favorites of yours out of these? Say, your top five? Thanks again! -Sledge

I've gotta tell ya'll, I love just about all music. Some kinds of music I can listen to all day, and others get tired after a couple of tunes. (Blues being one example) I even like country, and Native American Pow Wow music. I play multiple musical instruments, from drums and guitar, to Native American flute and The great Scottish Highland Bagpipes. The only two kinds of music that have that "fingernails on chalkboard" effect on me are Opera and cRAP. I can even think of one opera I do like, however, I cannot think of ANY cRAP that had that "hook" in it. You know what I mean. There is something in any good song that grabs your ear and won't let go. Some little riff, or lick, or melody line that resonates with your soul and makes you feel good. It may mean driving fast to the tune of "Pipeline", or soaking up the sunset with something ethereal from Enya. The point is, cRAP just does'nt do that. I've grown up with music. It is a huge part of my life. I don't doubt that the people that put out cRAP work real hard on it, and have developed a "talent" of sorts, but that does'nt make it music any more than putting a crucifix in a jar and filling it with urine is art. Oh, I am 41 years old for those of you who might have been wondering. That is all. - Sledge out.

I missed voting for him the first time around by 1 month because I was'nt old enough yet. I'm proud to say I did vote for him for his second term. In my estimation, Ronald Reagan was one of the best to ever serve these United States as President. I'm talking right up there with the best of the best. Those who have tried to cast dispersions on the man have constantly found they get no traction for their remarks among the common folk like us. We saw the results of his work. It affected our lives. They were better. He made the difference. He made us stand tall again as Americans, after we had been humiliated by terrorists. He told us that WE THE PEOPLE made the country great, and that "government was the problem". My fellow Americans, we were blessed to be served by such a man. I pray God gives us more like him! God speed Ronald Reagan, and THANK YOU SIR! <S>

So Is This Game Really Worth Buying
Sledge replied to SFC_Spectre's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I bought SFP1 as soon as it came out and suffered through the whole interminable patch process. I loved the sim from the beginning, warts and all. I have been playing LOMAC alot lately, and just went back and played SFP1 last night for the first time in a while. There is no question about it. SFP1 is just more FUN! With all the new features and fixes in the patches, this sim is truly a gem. It is a shame that not as many are playing it online as LOMAC. It is WELL worth the price of admission, IMHO. Carry on. - Sledge out. -
I have been playing Falcon sp3 with my son on our two computers which are networked. His is Win98 and mine is WinXP. The program runs fine on both, however, I have not run original F4 on my WinXP machine, so I can't tell you anything about that. If you don't have sp3 or don't know what it is, it is an update of the orginal F4 code. It makes F4 into the sim it should have been to begin with. I would highly recommend getting it. The difference between it and the original F4 is night and day. There is a new version out called, appropriately, sp4. You can get it here: http://f4ut.frugalsworld.com/ Enjoy! - Sledge

Dang! That was a hoot! A real side splitter! Thanks Nesher!

F-8d Crusader (aka F8u-2n) Released!
Sledge replied to MadJeff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I probably missed something here, but does anyone make addons LOMAN capable anymore? That was such a great program, and all the recent addons don't seem to support it. What's the deal? - Sledge -
Any New Lomac Videos Out There?
Sledge posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Just wondering if any of you videographers out there have produced any new videos for LOMAC (or any other sim for that matter), or does anyone know of any, and where they can be downloaded from? The last one I got was STE3 which absolutely ROCKS!! I have tried my hand at a couple of them. Its alot of work! My hat is off to y'all who put out the really quality ones I've seen so far. Netwings had a bunch of them for a while but they discontinued hosting them "for lack of interest". Certainly not mine! - Sledge out. -

Ghost- If your interested in realistic space sims here are a couple of links: http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/orbit.html http://www.wright-flyer.net/desertaviation/eagle/ They are both free and the Lunar Lander sim at the second link is a real hoot! Have fun! - Sledge
