Scout_51 replied to Dagger's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator
a flight of 38's was on its way to europe, they crashed were found in a glacier(I think in greenland) and refurbished, the birds were in excellent 'frozen in time' condition far as I recall.... -

New Aircraft Mod Ready: FJ-3M Fury
Scout_51 replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
[No problem. Technically you are both right, though. The early Fury (FJ-2 and FJ-3) was pretty close to the F-86, but later models like the FJ-4 were almost completely new aircraft. in reality the fj-1 was the daddy of the 86 as I recall,it was a dog till the wings were swept... -

I think if the af wants pride and tradition they could go back to wearing the shoulder patches, like the 8th af or 5th af patches we see in old pictures and videos..that ought bring pride and history...as a aside, way I look at it,if your unit needs a uniform to instill pride, you too much in the hole by then...
-
the AF is searching for something they can call their own. To establish some history. Unfortunetly they are looking in the wrong place with this uniform. Storm P.S. I'm going to request that I test it here, to show them that it will not work in this environment, during my CST courses. in other words they want to be the 3rd service with a distinctive uniform..in a time of low budgets I think Sec Def would rather use the money used to develop those 3 uniforms and put it into quality of living and in retirees....nothing wrong with pride, but to forget the people is not pride.....

The firm has also received complaints from opponents of the war and war veterans, who believe the US leader does not meet the criteria for a military hero, citing the fact that he did not serve in Vietnam but rather in the Texas Air National Guard. this was at the web site you mentioned, guess its a brit site? somehow I dont believe that that many Real Vets would complain about having a President such as Mr Bush,it sure beats the hell out of that other guy that was in my white house..guess his figure would be a two for one thing, one sitting, one on err err...at very least President George SERVED,instead of going to england to organize 'peace' protests...and we All in the military and Viet vets also DO know National Guard units DID serve i nam...and yeah Mad Jeff Id get it myself.. :D

RA-5C Vigilante.....is it "dead in the water"?
Scout_51 replied to navychief's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
actually I think other than the canoe under the ra type the birds pretty much looked the same.....now internally that's another kettle of rivets -
they might have been saying AirBorne Rangers.....AirBorne being the one thing ALL s/f' have as a common thing...as for pj's,yeah I would say it took big brass ones to jump out of a perfectly good helo(by the way no such as things a perfectly good airplane or helo lol) over north viet-nam or whatever l.z they are at....then of course you have the LRRP's but I think that is a acronym from another land, another lz....

Help from the Navy Guys!
Scout_51 replied to ext's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
[Always felt it should have been retained in service. It sure could carry a load of bombs, eh? The bombmeister...hehehehe. ] oh yeah, hell yeah, the mini b-52..lets see 5 mers,6 on each one..two squadrons on the deck pointing towards the pointy end of the boat, yep hell of a sight...fun to load too.. I have often wondered if any of the F-4s or A-6s are owned by private individuals now. I know that A-4 Skyhawks are popular, but perhaps the Phantoms and Intruders are too expensive to maintain there is a f-4 civilian owned, usually flown by brig gen steve ritchie, yep the one from nan,the air force ace..and yes the question I guess is still being talked about,is the pilot the ace or the rio?... -

It certainly has lasted the test of time. When I was at Pax River in 73, it was a new aircraft. and now off it goes to museums...hell of a fate, the birds could have stuck around a long while if they had done the upgrades it needed, lot cheaper than buying hornets, which Im not that imppresed with...same fate with the intruder, now that made a hell of a show on deck with 4 loaded mers... -

[The A-3D Skywarrior (or known by many as the "SkyWhale) had a history of crashes on carriers. When a "Whale" would come in for a landing, you would see everyone head for the catwalks!] not to mention the way the nose went around,up down.....lol
