Does anyone here subscribe to International Air power Review? When the hell are they going to get a new website? Are they still even publishing? -
Embarassing SF2V Question
brian79 replied to brian79's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm an idiot. I have been messing with tte core files and not those in SavedGames. Ugh. Well, now that I've figured out where to add things I have a new problem. I tried updating my weapons folder with one of the latest weapons packs and now the game crashes on startup. I'm sure I've screwed up my weaponsdata.ini, but I've heard other people say they aren't using one at all. I finally got the game to stop crashing, but the loadout for every aircraft is empty with no options to add anything (it's pretty rough to operate with only guns!) So I guess my new questions is this - if I want to run the game with all the weapons available in the latest weapons pack - how do I accomplish this? -
Embarassing SF2V Question
brian79 replied to brian79's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well - nuts. Should I uninstall the game and start all over? I never had any folders populate on their own, and nothing I'm doing seems to be changing. However, the game runs fine, so I guess I should be happy about that. The goofy thing is that I never had trouble like this with SFP1 or WOV. Surely I am not the only one having this problem. Either that or I am a bigger idiot than I thought (i.e. my wife has been right all along). -
Embarassing SF2V Question
brian79 replied to brian79's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Okay, so I've created the file structure: QUOTE (TK @ Apr 2 2009, 01:37 PM) If your mod folder is set to C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2, they should be: C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Effects C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Sounds C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Objects\Decals C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Objects\Pilots C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Objects\Weapons All seats (as well as pilots) related files go into Pilots folder. TK And thrown in add-on aircraft but they still don't show up when i run the game. The game runs fine, but I only get stock planes. Any ideas? -
Embarassing SF2V Question
brian79 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm sure this question has already been asked, and I'm sureverybody will just roll their eyes at me over this, but here it is: How do you add third party aircraft and weapons to SF2V? I've never had any trouble getting addons to work in SFP1, WOV, etc, but the file structure of SF2V is perplexing me. I've searched the forums and I can't find the answer. I love SF2 because it finally allows me to run on Vista, but I miss all the great Mirage Factory planes! -

So here's the deal - I'm a longtime player of SFP1 & WOV. Sadly I'm running on a Vista machine which causes me no end of headaches and has kept me from running WOE & WOI. My main question, though, is this: What are your favorite addons that include CCIP or some form of fire control? So far I've primarily been using the A-4K and A-7E, but I'd like to expand my repertoire. Any suggestions?

Stupid Vista and WOV, SFP1

I have tried everything mentioned in the forum to get these games to work with Vista - but to avail. I've updates DirectX, set the compatibility of the program, etc etc. Does anyone have any idea why I still can't get the sims to work? I'm getting that stupid "missing .dll" message - again, despite a DirectX upgrade. Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. -
Addon request

You have a point about the value of ugly planes (SLUF, A-6), but bite your tongue for saying the F-4 was ugly! -
Love the CCIP

Thanks for the info! Maybe I need to look more into the anecdotal information and stop sifting through the purely technical stuff? -
F-101
brian79 replied to jwh1971's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Obviously the special weapon on the B was the Genie, but there were a couple of variants (the single-seaters) that were designed to toss free-fall nukes at the Russkies. I can't recall exactly what variants (the A I think), or the weapon. I'll check on this when I can get my hands on my data after I get done teaching. -
F-101

Of course what would really make an early model F-101 mod sparkle would be a weapons mod so that one could carry the kind of nuke the one-oh-wonder was meant to sling at the Soviets. I could be wrong but I dont think the current weapons pack includes that particular 'special weapon.' -
Questions About Fire Control
brian79 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
This question has little or nothing to do witht he game. Does anybody know the best way to find out exactly how these late 60's and early 70's aircraft actually delivered weapons? I would like to know more about how DIANE and LORAN worked (could the A-6 aquire targets through jungle foliage, for instance?) Also what versions of the A-4 and A-7 had CCIP capability or not (and if so, how good it was). Also information on exactly how accurate radar, through-the-clouds bombing was on aircraft that had the capabilitity (like the Thunderstick converted F-105). The AIRtime books cover some of this stuff, but not much, and the squadron/signal books are a joke on these topics as far as i can tell. Not much experience witht eh Osprey series, but they seem to be more narrative-oriented. At this point I am almost desperate enough to start emailing old pilots to ask them these questions in person. Any thoughts? -

A good F-101 quite possibly might make me dance a jig. The question is - what would people prefer to see? an A, B, C or RF version?
