Flying Station's Buccaneer for FSX
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
So this is the ravenclaw model that originated in SF2? -
I think it's great for helicopters and WWII aircraft, as they are mostly point and shoot. Finding the origin points for the guns is time consuming, but easy after a few tries. But they dont move, so you are stuck in one direction. So the Apache's trainable 30mm is only to the front. Rockets are good, as are Hellfires if they lock. I've been hit and miss with modern aircraft. Mostly miss. Getting the aircraft's "radar" to lock onto a target for a radar missile launch (default aircraft or designated alternative) is kind of funky. IR missiles are easier. From the README, you can add specific targets aside from default buildings/aircraft, but I've been unable to do so. Again CS's forums arent the greatest source for help. They do provide some AI aircraft, but they are based over in Europe and difficult to find all the time. On the positive, I have successfully added side firing guns to my IRIS AC-27J and enjoy using it on the range or on a "mission". I think it's $10-15 now. If they have another sale, grab it. -Jeff

Sadly, nearly 2 months after release, Cera Sim has yet to deliver a fix for the UH-60L's M/P issues we've presented to them. No word from them via email. -S

Update! I've been working my up the levels for various countries. For the US, I purchased the M3 as a stepping stone to the M4 Sherman. I HATED the M3. Biggest POS ever! Sold it quick and got the M4. So far, I like it's speed, but am disapointed in the 75mm. Its fairly accurate, but doesnt do squat for damage. And I'm not going frontal, but opt to knock out a track or engine. They just bounce off. I thought about researching/buying the 105mm for it, to give me the punch, but the reload time is super slow. People dont work in teams enough to leave me hanging for that long. Moving on the German side. I still love my Ltr. That and the MS-1 are my go to's when I need to rack up some points. But again, the noobs often ruin my plans and get killed so quick, I'm forced to fight it out against an overwhelming enemy when I'm last to die. I had the Panzer II for a bit. Liked it's speed, but it got smoked a lot. So I sold it for the Pzr38. I've since moved up to the -38na. I think the most frustrating parts of the game are the movement of the enemy unseen by me even though I'm directly looking in that area, the bot accounts/afk bastards and the random matching of a lvl III tank against lvl V. But I'm having fun...

Till nov 11th you can buy a Sabre or a Susi from Germany
ST0RM replied to Gepard's topic in Military and General Aviation
That Sabre is going to need A LOT of thrust to taxi. -
You said that if a tank impressed you on the battlefield, to buy it. I did just that. The T18 is a pig, but the armor is incredible. I'm just trying to save up enough research experience/points to upgrade it. Do you use the free experience or save it? Looking forward to the patch tomorrow. -Jeff

Yep, 100 feet in those biguns isn't much room at all. I wonder why they kept it quite for so long though.

Interestingly, the E-board still had shapes for the S-3 Viking. But a second look showed the date as being 2006.

I like that first VF-74 20th Anniversary photo. While it's nothing too gawdy, I'd like to see that made into scale model decal form. The spook on the tail is cool. Sadly without crew/plane capt names, nobody would touch it.

I'm Boom135. Couldn't get Storm, as there were already a lot of versions in place. Just added you.

Noted! Especially about the French stuff ;)

Honestly, I haven't flown on the MFC server in nearly 3+ months so don't worry about asking Pops for the raise. That's not the problem. My findings were with another server I've been active with. We did bring up the packet level and had the same result. The effects simply build and overload the server and sim. The workaround has been to remove the effects or only limiting the Cera helo to one player and the others use the Virtavia. Shame.

Well, I've completed the 20 missions in each of my Tier 1 tanks. I'm not one to sit and camp, so I venture out and try to flank the enemy. But I don't get much support, as the other players lay low and pick off wounded tanks while you are reloading. I'm ready to move up to Tier 2 and hope that this is a bit more organized with more serious people. Probably not... -Jeff P.S. My time in the L.Tr and the MS-1 have been the most fruitful. Pretty good experience results per battle and I don't die as often. The guns are hard hitting and score good on the first few strikes. The Vickers and T.1, not so much. The T1 just doesn't have the hitting power to reach out and get someone, but is fast. The armor is pitiful. The Vickers has a great gun, but is slow. Even with the larger engine. I hate just sitting and waiting while in it, as I always feel exposed. Any recommendations for a good Tier 2 tank for Germany/US/Russia?

Nice vid, but hearing a new version of "Sail" is getting old. How about "Light up the Sky" from Thousand Foot Krutch?
-
I recognize a lot of that terrain. Especially those canyons!

Curious though, have you had two players flying the UH-60L in the same server? That is where I've narrowed down the problems. Seems that having two of the model in a server with the effects going will cause the packet load to rapidly build and cause a kick from the server, or CTD. I inquired to Cera two weeks ago again, and they still haven't come up with a fix or explanation. -Jeff

Thanks for the tips. I'll stay in Tier 1 for a bit to accumulate points and experience. I'm following your advice and trying to run through at least 20 battles per tank to figure out what I like. I've noticed an ability to convert experience to gold, but it always says I don't have enough. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a bit. I've also noticed a different reticle. One is arcade and the other labeled "sniper". Any pros/cons to either? I appreciate all the help. -Jeff

Have you guys experienced players who will enter a game, but do nothing? They basically go afk and simply take up space on the team, but don't do anything to help. So far, at least 1 player per game, sometimes 2. Makes me wonder if people do that to favor the odds on occasion. Still in Tier 1, but advancing my tanks and experience. I've completed about 10-12 quick battles in the T1, L.Tr, Vickers med. and MS-1. I dumped my Renault on the French side since the Chinese already had one and I don't recall many good French tanks. ;)

Hmm, figures. Our ISP has really taken a dump lately. We're dropping them this next week as we've informed them of a bottle neck in service to our area, which they acknowledged, but have yet to fix it. That was over a month ago. Thanks!

Got a question. I was in on two separate battles and I'm seeing a lot of warping by the enemy. In one case I knew where he was, as he had just killed a allied tank, but it was still distant. The next thing I know, I'm shot full of holes and dead. He then reappears in front of me and rolls on past. I inquired, but was told my radio sucked, so I wasn't able to track him. But visually he should have appeared in front of me in time for me to get a shot off. So on a another battle a few minutes ago, I had an enemy tank in my sites pretty close by and he was warping across the screen, which ruined my shot. Even as the battle ended and the red captured our flag, the red tank was no more than 500 feet in front of me in the circle, but was not visible. So what is this about? Jeff

Well, I'm hooked. Got my little US T2 and German Ltr maxed out, plus crew starting to gain experience. This is a great diversion from flight simming. And as long as I stay patient, I do pretty well. Cheers guys!
