DCS: F-35A Kickstarter
ST0RM replied to SkateZilla's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Why isnt there a more consistent aim for add-ons from companies? All of this bouncing around is driving me nuts. ED needs to direct things better. They say we need an aircraft or helo from this era to fill the current time period and then go from there. A 5th gen stealth aircraft doesnt fit here. No matter how fun it will be. Whats next? A Fokker DR.1 triplane? -
Does anyone else find this comment ironic coming from Poland? A place where untold numbers of Jews were killed in camps?!?! I'm curious as to exactly what comments were made about the F-16. The vague comments you've made really dont say anything specific to give us a reference. The Eurofighter, Rafale, Super Hornet and Gripen were considered but lost. Mostly likely due to cost, but also based upon an agreement to build a new base in Poland for USAF F-16s to be stationed and cooperate with the Polish AF. I had some friends in Spangdahlem that were told that their units would move to Poland at a later date when Spang shut down. Access and to ranges and free airspace being one of the more vocal complaints. Obviously this hasnt happened yet, but I did read that the plan was still being pushed along. -ST0RM (not an effing American Jew)

Yeah, yeah, I know it will only be the Huey FM and cockpit with the Blackhawk model but I'm just looking to do it for fun. Do I simply copy the UH-1H folder from this: C:\Users\[your username]\saved games\DCS\Config\input And rename it as uh-60a and it will appear as flyable in game? Skate, you might be the guy to answer. Thanks! Jeff

Ethical or even legal to sell games?
ST0RM posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Since it's been close to a year, or maybe longer now, that I deleted the TW sims from my HD (expect for FE2), I'm curious if I can legally sell them off? In the past, games came on disk where you had physical copies that could be transferred without issue. But that is no longer. Everything is DLC. So what do you think? -S -
Ethical or even legal to sell games?
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Cool, thanks. Time to gather up all my emails and such and see what can be transferred. And then find a buyer, -S -
So far, I'm liking the weekly communication from Matt. You know what they are doing and can keep up with progress. And yes, it's progress. Something pulled from ED's forum are the prospective updates to the Huey. "- Further improvements to the rotor and engine models - Correct engine start procedure to include throttle Off and Idle positions as well as ignition trigger and Idle Release switch - XM60 Reflex aiming sight for the right pilot - Radar altimeter - Chaff/flare dispensing system - M134 minigun as door gun - M60 door gun bullet dispersion - Improved crew AI (initially only door gunner AI) - Unarmed "slick" variant - Sling load modeling - Assault troops animation (depends on infantry modeling progress)" Which BTW, if you do not have it, you are missing out. I was a nay-sayer at first but when it went on sale for $20, it's been the most interesting and rewarding module I've purchased from any sim. -S

DCS: F-35A Kickstarter

Gonna back the call for a new terrain instead of the F-35. -
Yes, very rare opportunity. I've never seen the -225 even though it has been stateside several times. Thanks for posting. -Jeff P.S. Which airport, btw?

Love the heat blur in shot #2. Well done Ant. -Jeff

The background adds so much to the life of the photos. Switzerland was beautiful to shoot from. Great work! I love how casual everyone is around the aircraft during servicing and watching from above the HAS. Glad your day went well and thank you for sharing. -Jeff

That is a beautiful ship. The lines are very clean and make it look fast. Even sitting at rest. The twin 30mm(?) AA guns would be a nasty surprise for any pilot who got too close. Thanks for sharing. -Jeff

That helo driver is pretty ballsy also. Lets see Mike Rowe do that!
-
That was awesome. Even better when he got him a second time. Thanks!

Nice to see some proper airshow photos instead of the rubbage we have been left with over here in the US. Glad Europe came out to celebrate in style for the 60th Anniversary of the French team. Thank you for sharing. -Jeff

Interesting that you have a MiG-29 inside the wings and your name is SkyVIPER, but other than that you are good. ;)

The RoK's F-15Ks are wired for the Harpoon.

And more storms building now as I type this. Down here in the SW corner of OK, we're watching the T-storms build around us with the threat of tornados. Thankfully, as the storms progress east they are moving past the OKC area. As much as we need the rain in this area, I hate that it comes with such a huge pricetag. -Jeff

I've been playing the iOS version while on the crapper. Seems fitting. -
F-15C mini IRST style ball on nose - Any ideas?

Band 3 antenna. Part of the MSIP II mod back in the late 90's. -
Some memorial shirts were created to remember the crew of "Shell 77". These are available for purchase here http://campaign.customink.com/shell77 Originally the goal was 200 shirts, but as you'll see its surpassed that mark tremendously and still growing. Since many of you are active mil or retired, I felt it appropriate to post for those that wanted to assist. -Jeff

7 May 2013 Update for DCS
ST0RM replied to Dave's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Hmm, bummer about the Hornet not even being close. I know that it is anxiously awaited by many players. The F-15 and Su-27 modules will be nice and will allow me to fly one without having FC3. When I get back from Michigan tomorrow, I'll be in updating. -S -
Thanks Dave. I'm TDY up in Wichita this week, not deployed. Heard about this early this morning and still haven't heard of any names. My thoughts and prayers to the families.

Yeah, maybe a tiny Iranian pilot. Opposite of their "stealth" jet. They are always switching tactics to keep us on our toes.

The issues I see with DCS and the modules coming out is that they are being produced by companies that are trying to compete in two very different sims. Devs like RAZBAM, Milviz are building DCS compatible aircraft from their FSX models. This is taking quite a long time to implement the weps functions and consumers keep speculating on how fruitful it will end up being and at what cost per module. Your hardcore group will buy everything the first week, but that is not your target market. They all forget its not a sprint, but a long distance jog, but still try to recover the money fast. The long dev time reminds me of some of the Il-2 add-ons and how long it took to get them in game. If at all. Secondly, I see the UH-1 as simply a test aircraft to see how it interacts with the engine. Like the P-51. It really does not fit into the modern environment with it's rockets and crew served weapons that do not allow for multi-player. My biggest disapointment was CA. It is a cool idea, but did not get the attention to truly make it a standout. No views other than from the weapon station, so driving is iffy and you have to traverse the turret to see anything around you. The guns are great, but as a SAM commander, its more like firing TOW missiles. I get my a$$ shot off by the SA-19 when it is AI controlled, but from a player, you have to guide it like a wire guided missile. I dont like that and see players feeling the same when asked about it being included in MP missions. Plus I see many aircraft drivers staying well outside of threat range and high, so the guns dont come into play much. All in all, I think DCS is a great sim. High learning curve but it works right out of the box. MP sells games and they have taken it to another level. Now as long as they dont saturate the market with DLC purely to do-so and start adding maps and match era aircraft, it will be successful. Just my $.02 -Jeff

Simulation Support Environment?
