Swedish Air Force Show (Pictures)
ST0RM replied to JonathanRL's topic in Military and General Aviation
Great photo spread. It looked like an excellent show. The 6-ship of Saab jets must have been such a treat. Thanks for sharing. -Jeff -
Wow, such an amazing era for aviation. SSTs & the Phantom. Thanks for sharing your historic photos. -Jeff

Updated to May 2012 patch from April 2012 patch
ST0RM replied to bigstone's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Something to take note of. Every patch we get is based on a vanilla install of the game. Unmodded. So when everyone comes back and complains about mods being broken, the patch did not take those into account. It's up to the modder to diagnose and fix. -
May 2012 patch
ST0RM replied to Sundowner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The ships in all other maps (not NA) could not be sunk. The bombs/missile entered, but simply exploded in the water. Bummer about the Iceland textures. Thank goodness for 3rd parties. We should pay them... -
May 2012 patch
ST0RM replied to Sundowner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
A few more things. Any better textures for Iceland, or is there still no proper coast line and untextured boxes at the airbases? What about the ships? Can they be sunk now? Just waiting on the final words from you guys and I'll install this weekend if it's positive. P.S. Post some screens of the fixes. -

Complete vanilla install? No mods whatsoever? Just asking for clarity. -

Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?
ST0RM replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
Manuever kills are still credited. Look through reports from WWII, on both sides. An EF-111 crew was credited with a manuever kill against an Iraqi Mirage F1 during ODS. Cesar Rodriguez did the same against a MiG-29. It crashed evading his missiles. KILL! -
Is AAR something that can happen?
ST0RM replied to Skyviper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Fake Engine from SF1, doesnt work in SF2. So even faking AAR is out. I think you can rearm, but not refuel on the ground. Or vice versa. No, multiple cat shots are not implemented. -

Nice progress. Thanks for accepting ideas. Can you add a static jet(s) to the EOR as well? Might as well give it life since we cant park or start from there. Just two so it's not completely filled us. Cant wait to fly from it. -Jeff -
Yep, that guy's work has been by desktops for quite some time. Real talent! -S

Enlisted pilots, an untapped resource?
ST0RM replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
My point is that they have an untapped resource of Enlisted Aviators that could pilot the UAS instead of sticking some new Lt with it out of UPT. Do you think they will give it their 100%? I dont, because I've seen it. Flight Engineers, Boom Operators, heck even some Loadmasters have the flight skills already from doing the job. They are nabbing some nonner out of his office and sending them into training. I'm not all of us are qual'd, nor should all of them go to Enlisted. Just don't slam the door and write us off. -
RAZBAM Flight Club / FSX Miramar
ST0RM replied to firehawkordy's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator
Been flying with the group for just over a week now and am loving it. It truly is a lot of fun. And not with the normal virtual squadron BS. I get that enough in the real military. The plane set is good, obviously centered around RAZBAM products, but other aircraft are used also. And we've integrated air refueling ops into the flights. There is a freeware gauge that is excellent and easily installed into any aircraft. So, if you are looking for a great group to fly some naval ops with, check it out. -Storm -

ST0RM replied to hurc's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Possibly add some static aircraft/men to the EORs as if waiting for arming/dearming. We can't use them, but it would give some life to more parts of the airfield. Very nice work though. Looks fantastic! -Jeff -

Hey, look at that. Another week down without a patch. But on the bright side, nothing new broken. -
What do you think Mirage F1 title will add?

Enlisted pilots, an untapped resource?
ST0RM replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
Apparently, I'm too stupid to fly a plane and do not understand the complex world of CONUS/International navigation and flight rules. But if my crew violates any of the said rules, guess who gets Q3'd along with them? Gen Swartz said as much in an interview a few years back. By Scott Fontaine - Staff writer Posted : Sunday Oct 10, 2010 14:23:26 EDT Gen. Norton Schwartz again shot down suggestions the service will turn to its enlisted force to pilot unmanned aircraft. The Air Force uses its unmanned aircraft for firing missiles — unlike the smaller, often-weaponless drones the Army flies for surveillance missions, Schwartz said at an Oct. 6 speech to government employees in Washington, D.C. The Army allows enlisted soldiers to fly unmanned aircraft, while its warrant officers fly helicopters. The Air Force, though, allows only officers to fly unmanned planes. Some engineers and security forces airmen occasionally operate Army drones for force-protection purposes. “The reality is that the Army operates [remotely piloted aircraft] platforms on a very tactical mode — close-in, relatively small platforms,” Schwartz said. “These are not strategic.” He offered as an example the recent delivery of RQ-4 Global Hawks to overseas airfields in Guam and Italy. “I would argue there isn’t an Army remotely piloted aircraft operator that has a clue about how to operate in international airspace,” he said. “This isn’t a pejorative comment. I’m just saying what the reality is.” -
Take a look at the all of the scab patches over the upper fuselage. That is a pretty decent answer. The last USAF F-16 purchased is a '01 serialed Block 50, delivered in 2005. 7 years of constant flying and overseas ops has taken it's toll on the Viper fleet.

I too have to agree with Diego. I've been a very vocal opponent of the way the TW series has gone, but yet still purchased the releases in the hopes something would have gotten better. That ended for me with SF:NA. I did not purchase it and I seriously doubt I will until some serious changes are made. I'm sick of hearing how poor he is and how it's too difficult to add new things that the 3rd party modders seem to figure out in hours. Over the past 6 months, my time in SF2 has been rather short. It no longer brings much interest as without the mods, it's dull and solitary. MP would bring so much life to the sim. TK does not give two shakes about what we think here. I think it's time for me to spend my time & $$ elsewhere. -
At this point, who cares? The USAF will not get the jet in the numbers they want anyhow. If we havent learned from the F-22, then we're completely lost. I still feel the C is the best of the lot.

SF2 NA
ST0RM replied to topcat II's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Read through the numerous threads already posted here. This one about 3 threads below yours in fact: http://combatace.com/topic/72628-sf2na-problems/ Basically TK's weapons/jets and the SF2 wep packs do not use the same weapon station codes and not compatable without some editing. -

Just signed up. I've had the A-6, EA-6B and F-102 for a while. Screenshots show the now freeware IRIS S-3 also? Awesome. Still a great jet to fly. -S
