I Would Like to Bring To Your Attention
ST0RM replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Wow, that is impressive. I found myself ducking a few times. I really enjoyed seeing real-world footage mixed in. The immersion was right on. Nice work Capt Ward and thanks for your service! -Jeff -
Reports are saying it was a children's summer camp? I hope the losses are minor and they quickly act against these terrorists.

Israeli Phantoms. -
I've done the very same thing, but in the MiG-15. Approaching MACH 1, my elevators froze up and I had to pop the speedbrakes to slow down and regain control. My next pass probably looked stupid to the casual observer. Me, in a dive, cycling my boards in and out trying to keep speed up, but not over-speeding.

Noticed the lack of this line in the July 11 patched Options.ini UseAdvancedShaders=1 Kind of curious what you all think. -
I've noticed over the last several months that FSX really is a payware designers dream. Because of the lack of new items, payware is nearly a must. The planeset is stagnant and the terrain is barely updated from FS2002. Additonally, the ability to add better and more AI is still based off of FS9 and non-DX10 compatable. I frequent Flightsim.com to browse the latest uploads and nearly all of them are payware or rehashes of FS2004 aircraft/scenery. Reading some threads on MS's FLIGHT, they better deliver something good. Having to download and install a butt-ton of 3rd party add-ons just to get it to feel and fly just right, isn't going to go over well with the hardcore crowd. -S

SF2 Series After Action Reports

Enduring Freedom: Armed Recon Banshee 11/12 F/A-18F VFA-213 2xAIM-9X, 2xAux Tanks, 2xGBU-38, 1xGBU-12D We were scheduled for the first go of the day, patrolling the area just north of Kabul. Having no direct tasking, our mixed armament allowed us to deal with nearly any ground target we may encounter. Takeoff was normal and we proceeded north. Our mission required some long on-station time, so a tanker was tasked to top us off. Python 37 "Banshee 11, left observation, nose cold, switches safe" "Cleared astern" "Contact, fuel flowing" We thank the tanker crew as the boom operator snaps some pics of us on the wing. After we bid them farewell, the four of us continue north to our working area. Prior to our arrival, Pyramid Control alerts us of a Troops in Contact (TIC) in a valley to our north/west. From what we hear, the Taliban is using an old BTR-60 to pin down an infantry patrol. After I make a high pass to confirm friendly lines, I clear my wingman to drop on the BTR. They select a single GBU-12D and release from 5 miles out. Their drop is a success and allows us to target a group of Taliban that escaped the initial strike. Working with my WSO, we lock the western group of troops and release a single GBU-38 JDAM. Coming off target high and to the East, we pop defensive flares to fool any IR SAMs that have been reported in the area. Both strikes are successful and forces the remaining enemy to flee toward the mountains. We provide over-watch as our #2 rolls in to strafe. As we regroup, Banshee 12 reports their jet has an engine oil pressure light illuminated. Purely as a precaution, we elect to divert to Kandahar. Here is the picture the Transient Alert guys took of us as we pulled into parking. Amazing to see some derelict An-12s still dotting the ramp. -

Looks awesome. I just wish we could start from the ramp or HAS' and really get use of them. -
Don't get me wrong. I appreciate what freeware there is. I cannot (& do not) expect everything for free. However, after reading so much about FSX and tweaking it over the last several months, I'm just not happy with it. And having to purchase hundreds in aftermarket stuff to bring it beyond FS9 is just too much to ask. FSX is what FS9 was to FS2002. Just a prettier version. And only in select cities. Basically we're still running FS98. Have any of you tried the FTX terrains? They look spectacular. I'd love to see Wichita/McConnell AFB get some love. -S

I've noticed the Auto-Approach on the default aircraft aren't all that great. It captures the ILS fine, but doesn't follow the signal well. It drifts quite a bit. Try with a 3rd party aircraft to be sure though. At least before reinstalling. -S

In relation to the gun, you guys are thinking only of one arena, A-to-A. The A-to-G gun has proven very useful in the current campaign, where strafing has been utilized quite frequently. Yes, once you start hanging stuff on the wings, the RCS goes up, as does fuel consumption. And our current tankers don't have warning or defensive systems. So aux tanks are a must for duration missions. -S

Look at you and your Beta Apaches. Nice looking Vipers. Add RackLimitOutsideOnly=TRUE to the wep stations you've got the TERs on and you'll get a slant load. Thanks for the work Dave. -
Ok, that really is cool. I'm buying it. Is it a true FGA.73? Can the FGA.78 be made also. I'm thinking Qatari Emiri AF. -S

Ok, so I've made the decision to update to the July 2011 level. I've got a full merged install with Exp 1 & 2. Which patches do I apply? The Exp2 ones, or all? I'm assuming that my SF2:I will be patched also, since it's supposed to hit all stock exe files. -Jeff -
