  1. F-35 at Green Flag 2015

Like it or not, the F-35 is going to happen. It's far too large of a program to be allowed to fail. Even at the detriment of the overall capability of the entire force. Too many pockets have been lined with cash for votes or to look the other way. Tests have been rewritten to match what the jet can actually do, versus what it was pitched and sold as to be capable of doing. Politics won this, not the superior product.
  2. Well, They're Doing It Again

Hmm, a slight bias? How about the possibility that both HCS units most likely operated under night conditions where they were not as exposed as the Army and AF assets who operated in day and night ops? SAR, Spec Ops plus normal infil/exfils. And in larger numbers! No offense to their tours, but the sole focus of supporting a Tier 1 asset may not have them flying the same number of sorties or under the same conditions. Trying to compare the two is simply unfair to those that were there.
  3. F-15E photos

The RSAF are based and train alongside the F-15E crews at Mountain Home. But their jets are F-15SGs. Different from the USAF F-15Es. Engines, avionics, etc.
  4. "Following our last trip to Conningsby we decided to completely re-model the external and internal cockpit models. The old model was one we developed for a project for the RAF back in 2009 and was not up to current DCS levels." This seems to be the common theme. Projects scrapped and started from scratch due to changes within the constantly changing DCS 2.0 module. So much time lost as well as interest. I agree with JM. I wont invest anymore of my money on sales or whatever until something more concrete is released.
  5. Story of an F-14 POW

Great story, but the source is a hack, IMO. David Cenciotti (The Aviationist) rarely writes anything of his own. He just passes along stories from various sources. And often are very far fetched. And if it is his own, he uses the same over-dramatic language used in media. An RC-135 is a "Spy plane" instead of an ISR platform. Same meaning, I know, but over used for flare. God forbid posting facts to his stories. He deletes them from comment.
  6. Mad Max: Fury Road

Saw it over the weekend. I'm trying to figure out where it fit into the original Max series, or if it was meant as a pure reboot? I liked the action but felt it left much on the viewer to know the other movies for background.
  7. Pretty similar specs. Slightly less power on the ASUS vid card (3Gig vs 4Gig, etc) Just looking at prices right now. My 4 year old G73 just isn't cutting the mustard with FSX anymore and I'd like to move to P3d and run full out. What do you think? -Jeff
  8. ASUS G series or Alienware 17?

Thank you all for the inputs. I'll keep shopping around and see whats available when I'm ready to pull the trigger. Jeff
  9. ASUS G series or Alienware 17?

I wonder if either offer a military discount since I'm still technically active duty for the next few months.
  10. A Windows 7 Easter Egg

Appears to work with Win 8.1 as well. Just tried this on my personal work laptop. Don't ask why it's a personal work laptop... -Jeff
  11. A-10C CAS Video

Love the Hawg. Was very grateful to get them as my last receiver (8 May) before retiring.
  12. Nice E-2 scheme.

Looks like a base gate guard scheme from VAW-123 http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2050/1492809218_af23c4cdfe_z.jpg
  13. Narwhals - Best Commerical EVER!

    My daughter loves it.
  14. My Twins Playing Ball

Wow, has it been 10 years already?
  15. Another good author is Ian Black. His stuff is amazing. He's releasing a F-4 book shortly. Jeff
  16. GoG did it again!

Ok, so before I run out and grab it (one of my favs from long ago) does it work in Win.7 without tweaking and with modern HOTAS? I read also maybe Track IR? Thanks! Just trying to be clear. -Jeff
  17. What ever happened to Skate's F-100 for DCS? Yep, the C-101 will be another pass for me. The strike trainer concept intrigues me, but I'd prefer something slightly broader.
  18. Excellent Film

I saw it with my kids, today. Excellent movie.
  19. How far has VRS Tacpack come?

True above, but much of it still revolves around the civilian side. I get notices from PCAviator about my lack of purchases within X amount of months and they throw a 10% off coupon my way. They ask why I haven't spent any money. The truth? Not much has peaked my interest. I'm not a civi flyer and the bulk of aftermarket stuff follow that. I'd love to see MS come back strong with a CFS 4 Modern Warfare. Maybe take up where TK left off. SF2 was great, but we know where it ended and left open. DCS is good for the hardcore, but I prefer the FC3 level of aircraft. But I digress... Still waiting on FSX @ War to see where TP goes. -Jeff
  20. A few months ago, after taking time off of simming, I fired up DCS & took the Huey up. I found I could still fly her reasonably well and fire the weps. Not perfect, but somewhat straight and could say out of the dreaded vortex ring state with careful watching. Well, after the last few updates, it appears that it has been ramped back up to max. I can't even get it out of a hover now. Back to square one.
  21. I knew what I was getting into, as I used to fly the Huey when they released it. Watched the tutorials and practiced. I got pretty good. But over the course of time, the kept changing the FM back and forth. Now, it's nowhere near it was before and I'm left shaking my head.
  22. How far has VRS Tacpack come?

I think you summed it up in your last paragraph. FSX & TacPack will never surpass a purpose built combat sim (DCS). Even P3D isn't all that was hoped by FSX crossovers TP was a gimmick that took a long time to release and is limited to a few devs. It had potential, just not a lot of backing. Jeff
  23. Good Kill

Interesting movie topic. Where I think the AF has failed is that they've placed people in these indirect combat roles without psychological exams to ensure they can take it & cope. This movie appears to shed some light on it.
  24. How far has VRS Tacpack come?

I missed this thread, but will answer with what I've seen. First off, there aren't many TacPack capable aircraft available. While it has a SDK and tutorial on how to add some function into stock aircraft, I couldn't get to work. And those that have, aren't sharing. Dino's F-14, T-45, S-3, F-35 and most recently Mb326 are all out of the box TP ready. FMs are very good. VRS has only released the F/A-18E. It's outstanding, but has a high learning curve. There were rumors of them working on a Foxtrot, but nothing talked about in a very long time. IRIS's A-10 is my favorite. Weapons delivery is quite good, if not simplified a bit as it's not a full on A-10C, but an A-10A+. FM is similar to the DCS Hawg, but overpowered when clean IMO. (IRIS has said they are releasing the AT-6C Texan II with TP soon) Finally, Aerosoft just released their F-14 Tomcat. It's the A & B. I've heard good reports on FM and general behavior. TF30 engine stalls, etc... So, how do these all act? I used to MP with a group of Canadians. They used the VRS Superbug and I was a Hawg driver. We went at it in a guns only fight and drug it out. I got the kid to play my game and drug him low and slow. This was my area and I was able to score gun hits on him. No visible damage aside from smoke, but on his end, all kinds of warnings as systems shut down from damage. During a visual fight with AIM-9s, flares can spoof the missiles when combined with maneuvering. Or terrain masking (which btw, does block the Bug's radar) Is it SF2 level? No, but is fun. I'm just sad it hasn't taken off as it was hyped. A lot of promise in it, but not much backing. Supposedly, FSX at War will be released this year which may change that. -Jeff
  25. Falklands, 1982

Reminds me of that Harpoon game from the 90s. Cool!
