SF2: Tomcat Speculation
ST0RM replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
As many fans of the Tomcat that are out there, this could help TK out of the recession slump as we've not had a decent dedicated F-14 sim since Fleet Defender. If TK goes the same route as previous titles, an A-to-G mod will quickly pop up and you'll be BombCat-ing and no time. Now it's just a waiting game. -S -
Dark weather, but what great subjects! Are you going to Coswald this weekend? I'm trying to figure out a way to get there from Mildenhall on Sunday. -Jeff

Messing around with the Wpnssgt/Kesselbrut/USAFMTL A-10A in the Afghanistan map. Yes series 1, as this laptop just doesn't have the power to do SF2 justice. Anyhow, the pitch authority was horrible. Sustained turns or climbs take forever and are not like the A-10s that I've seen in action. So I edited this portion of each H-stabs: CL0=-0.0047 CLa=0.1033 CD0=0.0006 Cmq=-1.2821 Cmad=-0.6161 Cyb=-0.0207 Clp=-0.0015 Cnb=0.0125 I'm liking what I see now, but I still hit a limit where the nose bobs a bit, like it's hit a limiter. Any further ideas? The stock WoE Hog has a similiar problem. It just kind of wallows through a turn, rather than the quick snaps they really do. -Storm P.S. I've got a new skin in the works for it also.

FM editing
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks C5, gives me somthing else to look at. I'm no FM guru, but every little bit helps. -S -
I too enjoy alternate history. Read "1945" by Newt Gingrich. Pretty good read that will keep you on your toes. Sadly, he never finished a sequel. Or at least I've never found it. -S

Hey all, my son wants this game and I lost my disks during the move back from a deployment. Does anyone have it just gathering dust and would be willing to part with it for cheap? Thanks! -Storm

Uhh, I don't see your problem. The Phantom rocks!

Israeli modern pilots
ST0RM replied to X RAY's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Kind of stupid, but watch the movie "Iron Eagle". The IAF pilots wore modified HGU-26/P helmets with single visor housings covered in dark grey "mole skin". Mole skin is a soft felt we'd place on/in the helmets to prevent rubbing/chafing. The masks were mostly MBU-12/Ps, but I think some could be wearing the MBU-5/P. In the 90's, they would be wearing the HGU-55/P with MBU-12/P mask. And now, they've got the JHMCS with MBU-20/P mask. They've pretty much followed the USAF, aside from the few French aircraft wear French gear was worn. -S -
FAC Aircraft
ST0RM replied to RAVEN's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can kind of cheat and make yourself a FAC. Fly the F-100F, O/A-10, OV-10 and make the rest of your flight fast movers. Just designate your target and tell the AI to hit your targets. Pop a couple of smoke rockets on their for fun and away you go. -S P.S. also works for AWACS, JSTARS, etc... -
SF2:I has been CTD'ing lately and so I dug this thread back up to check the version. I'm running 196.21, so it must just be a hickup. -S

Don't forget the other aircraft the RAF wanted. The F-111K. When it was cancelled, they got Phantoms. Had the 'Vark made it into service, would the Tornado even be fielded? -S

The Sled is alive. Nice work! -
Seriously? Read AF.Mil sometime and they reveal far more info than I just did. And if you we're truly serious about keeping things quiet, you would have never posted the photo. Hope you have a photo authorization letter from PA.

Awesome Spinners. I need to get one of your Vigi skins and create a psuedo TSR.2 from 6 Sqn. About as close as we've got. -
We had an Airman at Hurlburt Field that bought a new Vette. It was beautiful. And it looked great sitting in the parking lot for 3 weeks out of the month. He could only afford to drive it 1 week after insurance, gas, and any other bills.

OvS, I see your point and how harmless this appears to be. And you are right, we've gotten so far away from "FUN" in anything, we've turned into robots. However, common sense should have prevailed. He could have had the boy up in the tower to watch and listen, then taken him down to the simulator and let him control from there. As Dave said, the FAA is under fire right now, and the timing was just wrong. It's a shame, but we've done this to ourselves and allowed our society to get this way.

Nice work Ant! The E-3D looks awesome! -
Yep, exactly. The ferry tanks are the same as on the F-111 and normally carried on the centerline. This one appears to have two, plus a baggage pod. Maybe an overseas transfer or returnee (from or to depot) due to the lack of unit markings.

And it has hardpoints on the wings for rocket pods or bombs. Such a cool looking jet! -S

Too Many Israeli F-15's?
ST0RM replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, the MPCD wasn't a stock feature of the C/D model Eagles. MSIP I/II tied in better pilot/machine interface with the screen/HOTAS, plus improved radar and ECM systems. Although the Band 3 antennas on the top/bottom of the nose and tail weren't a fit until late in the program. Looking forward to these. -S
