I wonder what that will be
ST0RM replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I plan on doing my own Korea install. I did it before with WoV and used the older Korea terrain. Sure it's missing some things, but it's still good. Plus with all of the goodies in SF2V now, it should be even better. -

The Thud was the fastest jet on the deck. Then the F-111 came along. I also read the RF-4C was pretty fast down low as well. Nice Fubar. -
An SF2 Series Experiment........
ST0RM replied to 331Killerbee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I tried this last night on a small install of SF2. It only has Wrench's American South West terrain, the default Desert and the Range. The only aircraft are FC's A/T-38s, AT-6B, T-6A and the Tweet. I went through each and every ini or text document and changed them over to Unicode (there were alot!) I also deleted all of the .shd shadow files since they aren't needed anymore. Long story short. I gained 10FPS. My laptop is only a 1.6Ghz, with onboard 32Mb video. Not a gaming rig at all! But at medium settings, I was getting 15-20FPS. With this file cleanup, I was consistently seeing 25-30FPS. Some minor slowdowns with heavy effects, but not the stuttering as before. When I get home next week, I'll try this again on my gaming comp that actually has some muscle. Thanks KB! -
Modders: What Do You Concentrate On?
ST0RM replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Same here. The research is a lot of fun. -
Anything Tom Cooper writes needs to be taken with a grain of salt. His book on the IIAF/IRIAF and the claims listed within are pretty far fetched in some cases. Could this have happened? Who knows. Unless you were part of the Mossad team who got the plans and could prove it 100%, then anything can be said as to how these aircraft were built. But really, after all of these years, who would care if France really did build the jets? Would some country request sanctions for something 30+ years ago?

I've been reading about the job losses in the UK. Like ours in the States, companies are trimming way down and making the remaining workers do more with less. They are feeling what we've been doing in the military for the last 15+ years. The military is a good place to hone your skills and even advance them, while getting paid for it. Granted it may not be the same entry level pay, but in these times, it may be the best option for you. I don't know what your enlistment requirements are, but 2-4 years is not that much time and the economy should be better by then. You'll have the applied experience and would hopefully be very marketable to a company thats looking. Good luck! -Jeff

An SF2 Series Experiment........

Interesting test KB. I'll give this a try on a clean install next week. Any performance increase is always welcomed. Thanks! -S -
12K?? Geez, that's stupid expensive. I'd look in the central valley at some of the schools there. Maybe Tracy, Stockton or Modesto? Does the airport in Lodi have a flying school? They used to have the parachuting school, but I haven't been back there in a long time. I do wish you luck. I've also wanted to get my PPL. I figure I'll do fine with it. I've got several unofficial hours in a Cessna 140 taildragger. Love that kind of flying. Stick and rudder all the way.

Ditto. I'm looking forward to trying the HDR mod on my gaming comp. Even from the cockpit, shadows and light variances add so much to the sim. I'm tired of missing out. -

Another excellent from Ant. Thanks buddy. -
I'd love to have that piece with the Westfalia badge on it. Shame to see them go out like that.

I'll be that smelled nice.

Help Me Decide

The B-52s did that very thing in ODS against the Republican Guard. Dave, Go conventional. The precision stuff is better for later mods. -
Oooooooh, this should stir some interesting responses...

Different way of building aircraft back. They were big and heavy, meant to take hits and survive. The aircraft of today are not so rugged. They don't last as long and are still flown a lot of hours. As Typhoid said below, it's not just Air Defense. It's the USCENTCOM taskings that is the real priority. The ability to multiply your CAS/Bomb dropper force by using the AFRes/ANG assets is a huge factor. These associate units popping up everywhere are result of it. It allows ACC/AMC to grab hardware that was previously only AFRes/ANG held. Although with some units, they've been able to hold off the MAJCOM from tasking them, ie the Cal and SC ANG. If CONUS Air Defense was their only mission, you could equip them all with F-15s. Yup! The logistics of ramping up an AF unit for Hornet operation would be a nightmare. The training of the maintenance people and pilots, getting spares, etc. New F-16s are the way to go. Everyone with half a brain knows this. Too bad Congress/Senate won't get past their own agendas to fix the military hardware situation. Another question was why the AF gave Block52 F-16s to the Thunderbirds, when they could have been allocated to a ANG unit that actually had a mission. -
The Super Hornet really CAN do everything
ST0RM replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Military and General Aviation
The guys who built that model, Darren Roberts, is a friend of mine. He can build really well and cranks out some top notch work. It's a crack-up listening to him describe some of his ideas and then seeing them done. -
I posted the picture as a joke. I sure as hell know that most of the Army isn't like that. I watch and point out the fatties in AF ABUs AND Army ACUs all the time here, as they pile it on in the DFAC. The AF is the source of many jokes for other services and we take it in stride. Don't go and get worked up about it. Delete the thread if it's that bad.

Best AI Loadouts
ST0RM replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've been doing a mixed load. In the Rolling Thunder campaign, I'll load the wingman with a combo of slick Mk.82s and some Rockeyes. Great for clearing out AAA around a primary target. But, if directed toward a warehouse or other building, they'll drop the CBUs first, then go back and hit with the Mk.82s. Do they have some code to drop from a certain station first? Also, if they are loaded with 12 Mk.82, they'll drop all 12 on one target, then roll back in and continue with guns since it's the only thing left. The 2nd Flight is ok. They do fine, although I've been having alot of the #4 not dropping anything and just flying around. For my jet, it depends on my own personal goal as flight lead. If I want to build experience for the squadron, I'll load up as a back-up striker, but add Shrikes or CBUs for clean-up, and give the primary target to the #2. -S -
Man, that sucks. His movies were the best of the 80's for a teenager. And thanks to Pretty in Pink, the reason I've always wanted a Porsche 944.

Yep. I had to look twice. Thought the TSR.2 had been released. Any more stand in skins for the Vigi? Despite being a Yank, I am fond of the "Eagle" and would have liked seeing it evolve. Some of the What-if pics of it are oustanding. -
More like different requirements. The Marines have placed all of their future aviation plans in the F-35. They said no thanks to the Super Hornet. They want a STOVL jet to replace the Harrier. Now where I think there is excess, is in the A and C. Why can't the Air Force use the C model? They don't have the weight limitations. And can use a gunpod like the Navy will. It worked for the Phantom. At first, everyone flew the B. The whole concept of the JSF was a common airframe. As I see it, this program is anything but that. Each variant is it's own aircraft. They only have the F-35 name in common.

Wow. And yet they kept open that lame "It's a small world" ride. We were there several times since 1996 and always wondered if it would reopen. When we came back in 2004 and saw the wall, we knew it was closed for good. Thanks for the link.
