Thank you for dedicating a server for the TW series. I hope it's used. On that, using mods has got to be a standardized affair. There was once a call to come together on what everyone would want for a M/P install, but it died like the interest for M/P did. When I fly M/P, it's with one person and using only vanilla (but patched to current standard). We havent had anymore show interest due to real life issues. Just look up in the M/P area and the threads are over 6 months old. Hamachi has worked well for most of us also. -S

Indian Air Force MiG-27 fleet upgrade complete
ST0RM replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
That is awesome. Looks very modern and pilot friendly. The article didnt mention this, but how much longer do the IAF expect to keep the -27 in service? During the upgrade was the airframe SLEP'd or zero-out? With the avionics upgrade, do they or will they gain a precision weapons capability? -S -
"We will not tolerate this. We gave them enough time to purchase helmets. Six months ago the price of helmets was below 800 naira so complaints about non-availability and high prices are no excuse," Looks like I just found my new internet scam, err, umm... new investment market.

Throttlerate?
ST0RM posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Since I'm experimenting with MiG flying/fighting, I looked through the data.ini for the MiG-17F. Reading some of the statements from the pilots who flew the HAVE DRILL/FERRY Frescos about the jet's performance, I noticed that one pilot explained how he overcame the slow spool up time of the VK-1F engine. So into the data.ini I went and found the entry THROTTLERATE=.3 What does this equate to? The pilot said it took approx. 15 seconds bring it up from idle to full, so he kept it around 80% and used the boards often to regulate speed on the approach or as needed. What measurement is TK using for this? Seconds? Maybe we can add some new stuff to the KB in the advanced modding area. Thanks! Jeff -

STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
ST0RM replied to Crusader's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Knowing the reputation of the Sparrow and early Sidewinders, I've adopted the technique of firing two missiles in rapid succession. I learned about this from reading actual Vietnam era pilots' report who did the same thing. After the double shot, they'd see if they hit or dumped. In the case of the latter, they'd fire again, wait, then fire the last if need be. I believe the Soviets did something similiar in that they popped off a radar missile, followed by an IR missile, hoping to catch the enemy in a depleted energy state after evading the radar shot. In the later days, they would shoot both radar missiles (AA-10) and keep the IR missiles for close in work. The philosophy behind this being that the heavy radar missiles were a hinderance to the jet's performance during close in fighting. Cant remember where or when I read about this, but it makes a lot of sense. A few things for you to consider. Or just move over to WoE where the missiles are much better ;) -S -
Throttlerate?
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Oh something I forgot to add in the first thread. I noticed the MF's Kfirs have a good amount of spool up time for their J-79s and looked at their entry as reference. It was THROTTLERATE=.12 So is a lower number, a higher time? Cheers! -

Little Help Needed
ST0RM replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Can you set them as separate animations? Like the ramp set to the bomb bay and the paradoors set to the hook function? Also, can you set the ramp to only open to the horizontal position and not full down. Makes for an airdrop config. Great work Ed! -Jeff -

New Squadrons in WoI Problem
ST0RM replied to JonathanRL's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I'll assume you added the new squadron to the SquadronList.ini and ensured that the Royal Navy is listed in the Nations.ini (although in all of the games, I think this is the same file) The decals for the Sea Vixen may be conflicting with the 101st Sqn's decals in the decal.ini for that skin, so it defaults to that. Or the decals arent in the correct location? Alot of variables to try, but I hope this helps you out a bit. -S -

The tanks kind of remind me of the long range tanks carried by the Mirage 2000 and Rafale. Great progress Gents! -S -

Very sweet skin Alex! Looking forward to adding it to WoI. -Storm -
This is going to make quite a few Phantom lovers around here start drooling. Interesting reading. Thanks for the link. Hopefully we can take advantage and get some further tweaks for our Phantoms. -S

limited flight years for aircraft
ST0RM replied to zmatt's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Try being nicer about it. Alot of noobs are coming in here asking the same questions over and over, when a simple search could find the answer, or some time in the KB. It get tiring answering the same questions. So, for your problem: Go into the options.ini in the root folder of the sim. Let's use WoE as an example. Open it with a text editor. Scroll down and look for 1989 as the end year. Change that to 2020 on each and every entry you find. Leave the start at 1965 or whatever it is, unless you want it to start earlier. Save and upon restarting the game, you should be good to fly to 2020, granted the aircraft you want has service dates that far out. Understand? -S -
Talked with one of the guys I go to church with about building one for him. Found out he was a flight sim guy also and on how he has always wanted a 'pit. Now to decide on what style. Ghost's is nice, but I prefer the "bathtub" style where you drop in and it surrounds you more. We'll see. I do like the dual monitor set-up though! -S

I'm looking to reduce the overall size of the explosion effects in order to get my rates back up into a playable level. Tries to intercept a flight of RE8s and their escorts, but with all of the flak and tracers, the game was nearly a slide show. Anyhow, I'm looking for which folder contains the ini files for these? I'm used to WoX file system and the add-on effect loaded into the effects folder. Since these are stock, I dont know where to look. Thanks! -S

Interesting little aircraft. Thanks for the work on both. -S

Strike Fighters Anime in the Works
ST0RM replied to ShinKazama88's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Well given that you've got a few actual pilots on the boards, lets try this: Pilot: Fast Cargo A Major who longs to get back into an operational squadron and back to his beloved B-1B. However, red tape prevents this, so he resigns his commision. Reading about the on-going conflict in this far away land, he sells off his belongings and buys a one-way ticket. He joins up with (insert country here) and begins a new life on the front lines. Given his vast experience and resume as a former Instructor pilot, he is given his own flight to mold into an elite fighting force. Pilot: Jug A quiet man, who reflects on the days of old, flying solo recce missions. His steads included the RF-101 Voodoo, the RF-4C and the U-2 Dragonlady. While doing some contracted consultation to (insert country here), he gets caught up in the emotions that only come out when a a man's life is on the line. He volunteers his services. And then there is Dave. NOT a quiet man at all, but smart as anyone. He longed to be a pilot, but the AF had other plans for his career path. After many years as a Boot Camp Instructor, he was given control of the base's nerve center, the Command Post. From there he made a name for himself. Any emergency, natural distaster or civil disturbance, he had the ability to foresee everything before it evolved and had the pieces in place to counter it. His last post was as a GCI (Ground Control Intercept) station Senior Controller. His coolness underpressure nearly guaranteed a pilot's successful air battle. His abilities and calm voice over the radio was almost as good as having him in the backseat or in another jet alongside. ------------------------------------------------------------- How's thats for starters? -S -

F-4E-2020 Terminator and F-5-2000
ST0RM replied to Viggen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The Turkish F-4E-2020 Terminator was a joint upgrade by IEI and TuAF Logistics. It was based off of the Kurnass-2000, but with the most current avionics of the day. On the other side, the Greek Peace Icarus was based off of the German ICE program, but included a significant A-to-G capability. Just based off of what I've read about each aircraft, and this is purely my opinion, the Greek Phantom appears to be more flexible and more of a complete weapon system. I've yet to see a Turkish Phantom, but the Greek jets looked sweet with the IFF blades and a targeting pod slung underneath. When I last saw one, it was at a TLP at Florennes and there were some German AF F-4Fs with them. You could definately make out which were which due to those smokeless engines. Good luck! Jeff -
I just got FE for Christmas. Installed it and have been playing it exclusively since. I like the flight back then. Actually seeing your opponent up close and taking aim to place your shots into the engine and bring it down. The only thing I've changed was the sound effects. They were a bit soft and I added ones that had a deeper sound. It's another great part in the Century of Flight. Eventually the Thirdwire series will allow us to relive nearly every key air battle over the last 100 years. Now EAW?!? Wow. I truly spent hours on that. Even when it didnt have as many mods. To me, that is what killed my interest. It got so busy with mods and a lack of coordination, I couldnt keep up and lost interest. -S
