C-141 B Starlifter WIP
ST0RM replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Ahh, the Tube O' Pain. The coldest and most cramped flight I've ever had. Looks great Ed! -Jeff -
What do you think is missing from this sim?
ST0RM replied to scouserlad13's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have to agree with Kevin. This is probably the key feature that is missed. No offense to you guys who want more aircraft, but I'm guessing some of you are younger and just want to fly low and fast in something cool. The actual use of it in game is lost on you, aside from a small few. I had more, but I'll leave it at that. -S -
KC-135
ST0RM replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Took her for a few flights already. I like what I see so far. She was a bit light on the basic weight, so I used EmptyMass=56925.842 which equals 125,500lbs for a MPRS jet. The engine thrust in Newtons seemed high, (or my math was wrong), so I tried to convert 22,000 (per engine) into Newtons, but she wont take off now. Again, my math is probably off as I cant find an exact conversion. What are the extra prop engines for, in the Engine section? The Spin and Con? Also, the things at the back of the wing undersides, can we delete them? Jug, nice work on the lights. I'm going to adjust them a bit to include the taillights, overwing, underbody and nacelle lights. We can light up like a Christmas tree when needbe. Again, I like it and hope to make it that much better. Jeff -

WOE: Training missions

Yea, I'll press with this. Wrench already has a Texas map with Randolph AFB, IIRC. PMs inbound. Jeff -

Modern IDF pilots?
ST0RM posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
In alot of the mods, I'm seeing references for pilots that havent been released yet, or not with the package. Has anyone done modern IDF pilots? The MODusaf is nice, but not exact and I'd like to prevent repeating someone's work. Thanks! Storm -
WOE: Training missions
ST0RM replied to Lange_666's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
A few months ago, I ran an idea past a few guys based around this very thing. Kind of like an AETC pilot training series of missions. Some of the more obvious setbacks were: - Lack of training acft (do have a Tweet and T-6 Texan II) - AG radar is very basic I'm still tinkering with it as a side project though, so maybe if we get some more blanks filled... SR-71 Blackbird
ST0RM replied to creature's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
While this has been brought up several times over the years, the Blackbird does not have a lack of following, but more along the lines of trying to get aircraft out that had a more interactable role. The interest factor of zooming over EVERYTHING at FL850+ would quickly fade, since you can only do that. Plus, the AI wouldnt utilize it correctly. So I believe the time and energy is being focused on other projects. -S -
Rhodesia - 1980's
ST0RM replied to Jeremiah Weed's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I love this idea. A-to-G/COIN missions are a ton more interesting than the strictly A-to-A sorties. Any thought to adding the Impala? South Africa had them and some surplus aircraft could have been sold off. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5937 Good luck. -S -
Help editing cluster bomb effects
ST0RM replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Go into your effects folder and find the CBUeffects.ini file. If you reduce the view distance from 18000 to about 10000 or less (depending on your system), it should help out on the frames. I've done with this will all of my bomb explosion effects as I was getting really slow during the mass bombing runs. Hope it helps. -S -
Modern IDF pilots?
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
There are some great pilots at Kevin's site, but the links have been shut down. So no, modern IDF though. 'K -
Currently there is not a true GR.4 available in any scale. The only kit in 1/32 is from Revell of Germany, but it is an IDS/ECR. Obviously you would need to update the cockpit, add the second chin blister and delete the left gun. Those are just the starters. Sorry.

Masking them works best. Eduard makes some vinyl masks for specific kits, but I use a yellow tape from Tamiya that is great. It's low tack, so it doesnt leave a residue on the plastic. I cut it around the frames leaving them exposed, with a brand new knife blade. Hope it helps.

BLUFOR SAMs
ST0RM replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The only BLUE SAMs I've gotten to work are the Chapperel and the Hawk, and the Hawk was intermittent at best. The Stinger and ADATS just sit there for me also, even though I've checked the ini entries multiple times. Storm -

Controller button assignments will not work in WOV
ST0RM replied to navychief's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Can you describe the problem more? Are the keys you have assigned, not being the same as in the control/default.ini? Or is the game just not recognizing your buttons? Have you added any of the weapons packs? If so, then delete the 'AircraftObject.ini' in the Objects folder Good luck! -S -
Campaign editing
ST0RM posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I'm going through the Golan Stalemate campaign and editing it for the aircraft/skins that I've got to change things up a bit from the defaults. I'd like to add the RF-4E to the campaign, (Nos 119 and 201 Sqdns) but the current aircraft are the Kurnass for each. Can I add an additional AirUnit for those squadrons with the RF-4E? I've been through the KB and Bunyap's tutorial, but it didnt mention this at all. Thanks! Storm -
Great story! Shame about the Canberra. Always sad to hear of a jet burning up. Thanks!

Great stuff Ken. Please continue. Jeff P.S. Welcome to CA

The Osprey series of books are a pretty good resource for color profiles of all aircraft. They usually are about 95% correct and for about $18 each, a good buy. -Storm

Weird Red Crown calls (STFU Be-atch)
ST0RM replied to The_Editor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I wish we could take a few of you ground guys up on an A/R flight and let you hear how bad the radios are with the ground jammers lit up. The receiver has to be within 1/2 mile before we can understand them. A few times it's been like 'Yea, Baja 11, you are coming in broken and unreadable, but you are cleared to rejoin left observation. Ensure noses cold, switches safe and dont run into us" And dont get me started about the Prowlers... -
When I deployed over the summer, 617 Sqn was there with us and during A/R's we chatted about the upcoming remake. They were excited about the idea, but being that it had been delayed, they were a bit sceptical. Let's hope for a green light in '09. -S P.S. I've been to the Edar Lake Dam and was taken aback with nastalgia imagining the Lancs roaring over.
