  1. Heads up

It surely is an eye-opener into the complexities of coding, almost as if there is some kind of string-theory principle of chaos at work.
  2. HITR First Impressions

Noooo! The AI stays high right now and fights properly in that regard. I've also been strafed a lot more as I land...the current AI doesn't appear to be yo-yoing on the deck as much? How is it that high AI = less aggressiveness and low-AI = more aggressiveness? Bloody hell, this AI stuff really is a can of worms. Aggressive yo-yoers or passive non-yo-yoers about sum it up?
  3. couple of questions

Hmm, think I'll be giving the hi-res a go then.
  4. couple of questions

Is there much difference between the two plane resolutions? I've always run the middle option, I like to see the damage.
  5. hat in the ring

It's not going to be a DiD issue, for the simple fact that a real pilot could do it, and could have done it, historical accounts to confirm or deny it actually happening being somewhat irrelevant. Personally I don't think a lighter fuel-load would have made as much difference in a real Albatross (or any other plane) as it does in it's sim version, but that is also irrelevant. We also don't have Cray computers computing real physics. Or peripheral vision. Or a whole bunch of other reality. Fact remains, real pilots could have done it, so it's not a DiD issue.
  6. Major Install Issues HitR

I had murders getting the expansion's install to see my OFF install. It wasn't until I re-installed OFF and it's patches over itself that the expansion would install. But I figure this was due to my OFF being corrupted by previous hardware issues I had. In your case, I'd say something that came in the Zip was so badly corrupted it freaked Win7 out.
  7. Wind Buffeting..question please?

My stats show my best hit-% so far is 20%. That's roughly 200 hits out of 1000 rounds fired. And that was spread over six planes (only two of which went down). I don't think the planes are too tough, it's just hard to hit them well. Which is nicely realistic in my opinion.
  8. hat in the ring

I'm with Pol, if it's the realistic option that's superior the fuel-load should not be customisable. The real pilots didn't do it, but they sure did paint their planes pretty colours. I wondered how you Krauts were surviving so long in those Albatross barges, I was trying one out yesterday (various versions) and they suck.
  9. Thanks, I've updated the sticky. I could have sworn I already did it some time ago.
  10. Wind Buffeting..question please?

Yep, a couple of times I've emptied the Camel's mags to get one kill. I do better with the 2-gun Sopwith Triplane, I've managed two kills and one damaged so far, I think due to the guns being closer together (concentrates the fire more effectively). I think the N17_Lewis is gonna suck donkey balls. I too believe it will enhance the realism by putting a brake on high kill numbers per sortie.
  11. HITR First Impressions

I have a GTX285 with 1024mb RAM and 4gb system RAM (system sees only 3.25gb though), running at 54455 and object density on max, average 45fps. Which is odd, as I seem to remember having to back the object density off one notch. But I might have had the scenery and terrain sliders on 5 as well. Whatever, just a bit of data by way of a benchmark, hopefully useful.
  12. Grounded until the 16th december. I bet the real chaps loved it though.
  13. A POX ON THE WEATHER!

Thanks BH, but the pleasure is mutual.
  14. Randomly generated wingman outcomes

No, it doesn't. We flew home safely, no enemy contact, one of my flight was shown as injured and out of action. I guess he could have pranged on landing. The randomness of this particular component is on my list of "nit-picky details". I manage to ignore it, but it would be nice if it didn't happen. I suspect it may be this way so aces like Richthofen can't die a-historically.
  15. Got used to the wind noise, got used to the buffeting, both are excellent and immersive but the wind noise is a bit 'Siberian Steppes'. Don't really notice that much anymore, it's become a subliminal aid (which is good and as it should be). The new terrain features are superb. The towns look much more realistic in the distance and there's a nicer overall look to all the terrain. I still think the trees are too big though (out of scale), by about 20%. Much better sounds. AI are fighting differently, much better in my opinion in that they no longer go straight for the deck. Don't seem to be much of a threat though, but maybe I'm just that good now. General summary, the immersion level has been racked up a few notches, the entire experience is much improved. Worth every penny of £12 and more.
  16. Wind Buffeting..question please?

I've done it a number of times in the WS, and with just about anything else visual where's there's a data overload. Especially after "...centre of monitor, go down."
  17. Wind Buffeting..question please?

WTH is that? The current version's WS looks nothing like that.
  18. Wind Buffeting..question please?

In WS, center of your monitor, go down.
  19. Frank's Diary.

12th December 1916. Furnes. What a blasted waste of time last night. I and my mechanics were up until 5am this morning, desperately trying to get my engine running correctly in time for operations today. We had it out on the bench in bits at one point. We got it done, only to have all flights grounded due to the weather. And it will probably be like this for the next few days, according to the weather wallahs. It's coming down hard, slushy snow that isn't settling properly, but damnedly cold never the less. The C.O. is having red stripes painted on the nose of my machine and a big blue 1 on the fuselage, so they can all keep an eye on me more easily in the air. I rather feel like it will make me stick out like a sore thumb to the hun though. There has been some tree-felling going on around our aerodrome, making it safer for our chaps while taking off and landing, and the wood is much needed at the front also. We have managed to bag a fair bit for our stoves but it's a bugger to get it burning well. What else can I wtite. Had a letter from the old mater, there is a parcel to follow with Christmas goodies. It would be nice to go home for Christmas but there is no chance of it I'm afraid. I'm not sure what we are going to do for the next few days. Kick our heels probably. We have more Sopwith Triplanes on the field, a total of three now. The more experienced pilots are going to get them first, so I expect I will have to wait a good while for one. I did think if my machine became 'broken' I might be in with an earlier chance, but the chaps tell me all I'd get is another hand-me-down Nupe. Well, I shall toodle along to the mess and see what's up.
  20. My OFF is on my D drive. Clearly the installer is looking on the C drive. I don't see any opportunity to redirect the install. Any way to get around this? If I copy my OFF to the C drive, install the expansion, then copy OFF back to the D drive, will that work or will I trip over some registry issues?
  21. HITR Crash animation

I don't think you can have the black screen not appear if your pilot is killed, but a/c destruction no longer produces it. Maybe if "Invincible" is selected in WS pilot death will no longer produce it. I've tested it with the a/c and can now ride a wingless flaming plane all the way to the ground.
  22. HITR Crash animation

I'm not sure which one controls it but in the bottom-left of the workshop there are two "exit from CFS/Mission" options. The "Exit from CFS" was always there, now there's also "Exit from mission". I have both set to off.
  23. Yeah, it's now 4.55am and I'm wrecked. I'm on another forum, talking quantum-physics, time-lines and the ego, and messing around with OFF between that and coming here.
  24. Ah, I just cycled another two missions and the thing's kicked in again, now shows the correct number of missions and I'm onto the next day. Fingers crossed the hours and claims will run correctly too.
