  1. Barker and his Snipe

Jesus! And they talk about Voss?
  2. DM and Guns Consensus?

Reply to FB via PM: "Ok, I've done three QCs, me in a DII vs a Be2. First two I plastered the wings, the Be2 went down out of control and THEN lost a bottom-left wing (to what I think was flak) and on the second lost the middle bit of the lower-right wing, again I think to a nearby flak-burst. The third I plastered from behind again, to no effect on the wing. I then plastered him very nicely from above and he lost his lower-right wing, definitely NOT to flak. I think it's still the hit-box issue. I was plastering the wings from behind, plenty of bits coming off, more than enough to indicate plenty of hits that should have sawed the wing completely off, but the wing hit-box not being reached. From above the hit-box gets hit, and one of the wings did then come off. So, I reckon attacks from dead astern will not often get wings to detatch, but deflection attacks will see more of it." Personally, given the spread of the flying bullets (like I'm firing a blunderbuss ), I wouldn't ever be targetting specific parts of a target in campaign. I'm not sure the real chaps did either. I aim for the biggest bit, as close as possible, and let fate take it's course. So sometimes I'm going to see wings come off, but probably not that often. Which is fine for me, too much candy and the candy stops tasting as sweet. Forgot to mention, I'm on 1.28a, DiD settings with Hardcore DM.
  3. Not seeing damage

"Highest settings" applies only to the plane skin-res, in regard to damage not showing.
  4. I've seen an Se5 do that, but it was hovering stationary.
  5. Joystick Recommendations

Having mastered the pedals some time ago (still have my old Thrustmaster pedals from over ten years ago) I would not be happy to ever have to go back to a twist-stick solution. The difference in control is chalk and cheese. I'm able to do things with the plane/rudders that were simply impossible with the twist-function, however unlikely that may sound (twist is same as pedals, right?). It's not just about the physical function of the devices, there's something going on with four-limb coordination and how the brain deals with it.
  6. Balloon defence mission. Passed loads of bogeys, but stuck to the path. Reached the balloon, bogeys behind. Turned back on the patrol-leg and one turned red. TAC off and in we went. Got there and there were a bunch of silver Nupes mixing it up on the deck with unidentified friendlies. Got into turning with a couple of them, but they were inside my turns all the time. Managed to get a few hits on one of them. Then my gun jammed, so I was off out of it at tree-top height. One decided to chase me but I was getting away from him. Then my gun cleared, so I thought "right, you schweine" and turned back. Big mistake. Even though he was having 'issues' with the ground he still engaged me and I couldn't shake him. A few hits later and my motor was sounding like a bag of spanners kicked down the stairs. I managed to get down ok, but it was very close. Never has a sim been so challenging or realistic.
  7. My first SUCCESSFUL scramble mission!

I should think in that case that if you'd been in combat earlier you should roll a die to determine if your plane has been serviced at all. If you get a "No" (low fuel, low ammo) you should run for the dugout. If you get a "Yes", go with full tank. If you've not been in combat earlier just roll for the fuel.
  8. My first SUCCESSFUL scramble mission!

But it could be a plane that's not been re-fuelled since returning from it's last flight. Roll a die for that.
  9. My first SUCCESSFUL scramble mission!

I've had only one scramble mission, and that was in my current career (German). I had half a mind to jump straight out and 'run for the dugout', but curiosity got the better of me. I'm glad it did, because after twenty-odd minutes of wondering what the hell was going on I found all the Tommies up at around 6000ft, in Strutters (?). I'm not sure they were even targetting my field, the review showed tents destroyed at a neighboring one as best I could make out. As for my procedure (imagining a bunch of scouts making a beeline straight for me), I got about 20 feet off the deck and flew through the trees at full-throttle for about two klicks, before turning around in a climb (and thinking "eh?! Where are they then?").
  10. The recession sucks. I gave my old TiR1 and TiR2 to fellow squad-members some while back, my brother got the TiR3 but didn't get on with it so it's back on my shelf. Apparently an 'expansion pack' can be had for it which'll turn it into a 6DoF unit (you'd be on your own with that). I've already tried a couple of other chaps, via email (no reply) and PM (was able to afford one, just doesn't know if it's worth it yet). I've trawled through various TiR posts to try and find somebody else, but no joy. So it's up for grabs to any OFF P3 member of the community here who finds the price of a new one a bit rich, on the understanding of course that it'd be similarly passed on if/when the recipient goes for a TiR4. The first PM gets it, OFF P3 owners and forum members only.
  11. RB3D or OFF3

I'm more than happy with whatever colours I'm given. Which is pretty lucky, given the minging Halb I'm flying currently.
  12. There was a third time, on a DVII, he survived (I think) but I had one wheel knocked off. I landed lop-sided and did a big ground-loop.
  13. RB3D or OFF3

I think the point about skins isn't that they can't be made, it's that one can't be assigned exclusively to the player in campaign-mode.
  14. Joystick Recommendations

You can either give it a max dead-zone, or go into the control panel once you're flying in the game and delete the axis assignment for it.
  15. OT in memory of my Father

Mr Joe 'AC' Worsley by any chance?
  16. I've knocked down two scouts by hitting them with my wheels (and surviving without apparent harm to my own plane).
  17. OT in memory of my Father

Jesus...balls of steel. That's a father of whom any man could be proud.
  18. Joystick Recommendations

I tried a Logitech Wingman Force 3D a couple of years ago (two of them in fact, as I replaced the first immediately) and the second one went back for a refund within the first month. A POS. I've been using Saiteks for years, both force and non-force, and find them to be the best sticks available. Their new force has unfortunately positioned throttle levers (don't know what they were thinking of there) but other than that it looks nice. I'm currently using their older Cyborg Force 3D and it's pukka. If FFB isn't a requirement the CH sticks are supposed to be pretty good too.
  19. I am starting to like the Spad

That's rather to do with allied HQ not liking their kites being turned into tarts' handbags.
  20. What a scrap!

When I have twin spandaus and a sight I'll have a go. Until then I have to use one gun and the pointy bit on the radiator-cap as an aiming-point, which means getting quite close unless it's a 2-seater flying straight and level.
  21. Is Jagdstaffel 5 represented?

I don't have a clue. I chose Jasta 3 because I've been a member of JG3 for about ten years. Out of ten missions though the closest we've been to the Tommies was a patrol over the lines (as in over, not across). It certainly increases one's odds of survival.
  22. That's seriously good. I've never worked with wood, all my stuff is done in plastic. But never as good as that. Patience is the real key, and I just don't have enough of it. I'd love to spend some time with a chap like that, it would be highly educational and inspiring too.
  23. Is Jagdstaffel 5 represented?

I'm hoping I survive long enough to see what fancy paint-jobs Jasta 3 come up with. Their Halbs are real mingers.
  24. They were boys...

That was Kelly's Heroes. The 'Tiger' was a modified Soviet T34, much the same as they used in Saving Private Ryan. The Shermans were genuine.
