  1. I encountered a flight of approx six Nupe 11s in a mission last night. They were all right on the deck and providing a spectacular display of diving and looping aerobatics. I got two of them, they made no attempt to defend themselves or fight back. The AI Halbs, at the same altitude, behaved far better. I have noticed this, that when I select auto-level in my Halb at too low a throttle-setting, it will porpoise indefinitely. Auto-level is, effectively, the AI taking control of my plane. So, it tries to maintain a specific altitude setting and will hunt for it. When auto-level is selected the nose usually drops. The AI then tries to regain the correct altitude with a heavy nose-up maneouver, but low-throttle and too much nose-up causes a stall and the plane falls back below the required altitude. So it noses up again. Repeat ad-infinitum. Low-powered planes like the Nupe 11, when going to zero altitude, are, I believe, experiencing this loop issue. As soon as they hit the trigger-altitude the AI responds with a heavy nose-up, loses speed, drops below the trigger-point again and repeats, ad-infinitum. Is there no way to code a solution for this specific behaviour? Eg: "If plane attains altitude-X plane goes into level flight until speed-X is attainted then begins very very shallow climb until extra altitude-X is attained then normal AI combat mode is reactivated" They might become sitting ducks for a short time under such parameters, but they're sitting ducks already plus they look incredibly stupid.
  2. less than 100% fuel loadout?

One also needs to keep an eye on mission parameters. My last mission was a balloon attack, and I noticed that the total distance involved far exceeded the range I had on a full tank. "Alternate Flight" (or whatever the exact wording is on that option) was the solution to that one.
  3. I think I'd take AA over a wormhole any day.
  4. Manual re-start?

I think I'll take the opinion of those who have personally fired MGs extensively in anger.
  5. I've become a bit of a tree-dodging expert, even if I do say it myself.
  6. If I'm having to run for it I go as low as possible, in case of having to make a forced landing. I also figure that forcing them to chase me through trees has a chance of putting them off. It's exactly what I would do in real life.
  7. Go here: C:\OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\Pilots Look for "pilot dossier" (with the number of the pilot, you may have to check through all numbered dossiers to find the correct one). Look for the line that says Deceased and change it to In Service. I think you will also have to change one other of his files so that the logbook entry (text) doesn't say about him being dead.
  8. Thanks Winder, that's good to hear. Support is second to none.
  9. Dog Fight? Free For All?

Free for all? You mean Free Flight, in which no enemy a/c will be encountered.
  10. I was hoping the new one would be done by the end of this weekend, but I've not heard from Jet since last weekend. So, until the new one is completed we'll carry on using the current one. All DiD pilots please continue as you were before. Advise me of pilots who are on the board now but are dead and of current ones who are alive, with all their appropriate stats. Thankyou.
  11. OT anyone over 40 remember this?

I must have missed that one somehow. I remember 'Watch with Mother', in B&W. Some weird donkey in it.
  12. I've noticed that too. I'm just waiting for the time when my own archie takes me out. Friedly archie should cease fire as soon as friendly a/c are in the mix.
  13. I don't see why the can't disinter the body and do a DNA check, there must be members of the family line in existence. Usual British establishment incompetance.
  14. Marvelous---and a few questions

I got my first Furry Freak Brothers over 20 years ago. True genius.
  15. Manual re-start?

The metal expands both ways. Or maybe a better way to put it would be it swells. I've seen MG42s jam, and I was given that exact explanation by the chaps firing them. I'm no expert on the inner workings of small-arms operating at extreme temperatures but it makes perfect sense to me. Or maybe they were just "foolish" too.
  16. Manual re-start?

Excessive heat can cause the breech to expand, progressively gripping each successive cartridge more tightly until an extraction-failure occurs. Once the breech has cooled and contracted the stuck cartridge can be cycled out. Suprised a man of your combat experience isn't aware of that Tiger.
  17. Marvelous---and a few questions

That's the stick I have...weak in OFF, strong in ETO. It's the sim, not the stick.
  18. Does anyone remember the Japanese chap who was online quite a bit? I can't remember his name, but I do remember him teaching me the finer points of the Alb DII. Nice bloke.
  19. Marvelous---and a few questions

The FF in OFF is very weak. By comparison the other CFS3 mod, ETO, has much stronger FF. CFS3 itself is not particularly strong. Go figure.
  20. Kills claimed/confirmed

Yes, it is possible, and the reason is usually that it was "uncorroborated".
  21. wrong forum

I thought the Me110s were a bit optimistic, then I took on some He111s. Bloody hell, they dogfight like 109s! It looks very very good, but with bombers behaving like that it's not my particular cup of tea.
  22. wrong forum

My apologies, there's a seperate set of sliders within the game. Put those up to max and no more billiard-table.
  23. After 93 minutes airborne, on a long tedious escort of three Roland recce planes, I ran out of gas about 20 miles short of home. Oh how they mocked me in the mess of the aerodrome I found fortuitously close beneath me. Note: The gas allocation doobrey doesn't reset itself to 100%. I'd had it on 65% for at least the last ten missions. Plum.
  24. wrong forum

I have it all up and running, sliders maxed out. If it wasn't for the terrain & scenery I'd call it top-notch. As it is I find the lack of a believable ground rather off-putting I'm afraid. It's like flying over a billiard table with the occasional shrub.
  25. Hard-up for TiR?

Eee! What can I get for two rhubarb-custards and last weeks Beano?!
