I wonder if they'll be compensating people who had their cards fried by this driver? -

Wings of Prey half price on Steam

I can't see most of the text, never mind the sliders, most of the little windows the text appears in are too narrow to display all of it. I double-click on them and can see the text changes, just enough to get the meaning. When I double-click on the realism settings I can see only two choices, "CAD" (arcade I presume) and "ISTI" (realistic I presume). It goes back and forward between those two. So, what do I have here...a game that'll work only offline, so long as I fight only against Fighters, and only in Tutorial mode at that IF I want longer than three or four minutes in action. Yeah, that was worth fifteen quid. I will never, ever again, purchase a game that has ANYTHING to do with Steam. They are a bunch of money-whoring scum without a shred of integrity. -

Having got sick of trying to go online with this POS today I gave up and selected Single Player. Chose a single mission, P51 over the Bulge to knock out a bunch of 109s. After getting sick of the mission terminating after THREE OR FOUR MINUTES ("You ran out of time") I chose a tutorial mission, time unlimited. Me110 vs seven B17s. Wait for it...the B17s dog-fought with me, getting onto my tail, performing full 360-degree rolls, 90-degree banked hard turns, the lot. This was on "Realistic" mode (I still have no option to select Simulator Mode). Oh, and after three days of waiting I have still not heard back from Steam Support, other than automated emails to tell me they'll get back to me soon. DRM...? I not only have to be connected to Steam to play OFFLINE, I also have to be connected to Yuplay to play OFFLINE. This is beyond outrageous. Steam selling a POS that is not fit for purpose, is broken, doesn't work and also requires TWO internet connections just to play OFFLINE. This is one of those times it's a good thing I can't lay my hands on some of the money-whoring scum responsible for this joke, because I'd be in handcuffs and charged with a serious assault. When THEY are the real criminals. -

I have a Corsair 650w PSU, multi-rail jobby. No overheating going on that I can feel. My card is a 1gb model (so you'd think there's plenty of V-RAM). I'm not sure it would be a good idea any more to install an older driver, now that WoP has installed DX11 (without a by or leave). -

Everything checks out, at least with the limited diagnostics available to me. And other games play fine. This WoP loaded DX11 for some reason though. My card can't make use of more than DX10, but my research indicates it's not an issue, the card just ignores any DX11 stuff that might be in the game. Maybe it's my RAM on it's way out, I've been having suspicions over it for quite a while. The system certainly didn't like having 4gb installed (back to 2gb now). -

I'm starting to wonder if there's something busted in my relatively brand-new video-card. First blue triangles on OFF out of nowhere, now crashes in WoP. Wouldn't explain the network issues though. -
Bloody hell, superb improvement. Shot a couple of Camels down and could hear one of them with his engine blipping and choking as he fell. It sounded pukka! Nice work old chap, thanks.

Erm...I'm having a blonde moment I guess, but where are these files at? Yeah, blonde moment. In the OFF DL section.

Sorry chaps, but the forced mission-termination design decision is the hook upon which all other considerations must be based in my opinion. And there's proof in the pudding of that with all the other issues the game has. Maybe in a years time they'll have brought the game up to par, but I didn't pay my money now to have a game I could consider playable in a years time. But no biggie, I've been stung for worse by games in the past. I already managed to screw a £30 refund out of Steam for HoI3 (though it did take the intervention of PI's CEO, Fred Wester). I'll see how I get on with this particular POS. Meantime there are other games worthy of the name to play (OFF and DH mostly). :) -

From how the game performs now, after four/five major patches, it makes me feel a little queasy to try and imagine how it must have been on day one. Over 2gb of patches and it still performs like a sick dog, for me and a considerable number of others by all accounts. That, naturally, doesn't inspire me with much confidence for the game's future. They (the devs) appear to be a particularly inept bunch. I mean, who enforces a mission termination in a game? Who does that? Who has that kind of twisted mentality, devoid of any semblance of even just plain common sense, never mind intelligent design? -

I turned down two of the graphics settings one notch from max and managed to get about half an hour of online play before the game crashed again. Looks to me like a classic memory-leak. Still had to run the gauntlet of freezes, hang-ups and the activation-window popping up again, which wouldn't accept my password, necessitating me having to change it on their site. All of this kind of bollocks every single time I try to play online. After four or five major patches. But yes, apart from the lag and warp from a number of players (some of their a/c literally vanishing from in front of my gun-sight) the play was very enjoyable. But with the overheasd of effort right now just to get into a game it's not worth a light. -

This is what I've been getting after a few minutes in every online session I've tried so far: I have zero problems in any other online games I play. -

I was very much looking forward to Silent Hunter 5. Then I learned of Ubiscum's new DRM (have to be online and connected to their server 100% of the time even to play offline) and I no longer intend to purchase it. Am I cutting off my own nose? No, not a bit of it. Companies that pull this kind of crap WILL learn, the hard way, that their criminal and fraudulent behaviour will not be tolerated. -

I re-booted my PC, the demand for the activation-code has gone away. I went online, first game I tried to join (realism mode) wouldn't go further than "joining game", the second one I was able to join. It was in arcade-mode, the chap in the Stuka was flying a cannon & bullet proof plane, but his rear gun had no problems blowing me out of the sky with one or two bursts. The most games I've seen in the lobby are around ten, most of them with one or two players. I've not seen one with more than nine. Ghost-town, and I'm not suprised. The game is rammed full of bugs, stupid design-decisions and non-functional components. It looks superb and the FM feels 'ok' (exactly the same FM for every plane I've tried so far). It's an arcade game that doesn't work properly even when it's working and crashes repeatedly. IF it would work properly AND not keep crashing it would be worth £15 just for the occasional online blast. But it doesn't and it does, so it's not worth having even if it were free. -

You couldn't make this s**t up. It's decided to ask me for the activation-code again, but now, when I put in the code I was given in the email, it says "Wrong activation code". So I now have a non-functional game on my PC for which I paid £15. -

Switched back to wireless (over ethernet it just locked-up on the online-screen everytime), no further demand for re-activation. About 1 in every 3 attempts it'll let me into online. From then it's russian-roulette if it'll let me get into a game (lock-ups on about 50% of attempts). Started my own, had about six of us dogfighting and after about ten minutes it crashed again, needing task-manager to shut down the processes and clear it off my PC. I have next to no tolerance for this kind of crap when the game is straight out of the box. After an hour of downloading patches (from v.24 to v.29, approx 2gb's worth) and updating to the latest build my tolerance is ZERO. -

I am not even remotely interested, or prepared, to get into that kind of BS complexity with ANY game. De-activate and re-activate? Run a "protect.exe" in a "root-folder"? How about they can just shove the POS where the sun doesn't shine. It beggars belief that they have gotten away with passing this trash over Steam. WTF were Steam thinking of?! Oh yeah...the dollar. Whores. It's only £15, but it's the principle. Scumbags like this need to be driven out of the market. -

I've submitted a ticket to Steam requesting a refund. According to their T&C they don't give them for downloaded games. In which case I will report them to Trading Standards and I will take them to the Small Claims court. Nowhere did it say I would have to be connecting to some shonky Yuplay server located god knows where. That locks up my PC ("Game Not Responding, Activation not Responding" in Task Manager). The game looks fantastic. And that's it, the rest of it is a steaming POS. -

Thanks Dimus, found the axis planes. I don't appear to have the option for 'Simulation Mode', where it allows the 'Difficulty Setting' to be changed I have only 'Arcade' and 'Realistic' (both in a little window that is too narrow to show all the text). I've been trouble-shootimng a network issue and enabled the LAN in my BIOS and hooked up my wireless router to an ethernet cable. Guess what...when I went to play WoP again it told me it had detected a hardware-change and I needed to activate the game again with the serial-number. It tells me I have three activations permitted in total, I'm now down to one left. WTF kind of BS is that? I suppose when I go back to being wireless it'll detect the change and force me to use my last activation. And if I have to go back to ethernet again...no more WoP. These kinds of people are suffering from mental illness in my opinion. You'd think they'd sit down and go "Shall we force-terminate the mission when it's objectives are met, or shall we let the player end the mission when he's good and ready via the Escape-Key?" And this activation BS...it's a STEAM game, why doesn't it DRM itself the same way all other STEAM games do? Oh, of course not, the devs are russian and are barely fit to organize a piss-up in a brewery, never mind implement a system that doesn't have me intending to get straight onto STEAM and demand a refund for this POS. -

As I said, the wing-root is in the wrong position (too far forward). Which makes it a bad fake, not a good one.
