  4. I suppose a weaposn pack for SF2 will be shortly released by te community... can wait for Aim120, AGM88 and some other nice stuff...
  5. Actully they didn' make some many huge holes (ok except for the Kaga...), but the one they did were critical. As Parshall and Tully have pointed out the Japense carriers had a lot of safety problems and a lack of a policy of damage control. It was like they had been carried too far by the idea of first strike to the point of not considering the eventualirty of being hit... couple that with poor AA weaponry and you were pretty much dead. But when the japanese were confronted by the choice between SBD and TBD diuring the yorktown attack (the only coordinated one of the day) they opted for TBD as ezlead has pointed out... but in the end torpedoes were more dangerous the problem at midway was the poor performance of both torpedo planes and american torpedoes...n BTW I have to try this mod...
  6. welcome in a furball! A good way ius to try to keep situational awareness in combat (on of those things that made you appreciate two seater in real life, two more eyes searching for the baddies...) also if the enemy are too many try to limit yourself to wuick missile pass and the rapid spearation... that way the most porable direction from where the enemy will fire will be six o'clock, so you then can evade right or left... take care of your RWR and remember that is usually an impecise instrument. Even today whit the most sophisticate ones that can detect the change between scan and lock in enemy radar emission you do no have 100% certainity that every missile is tracked or that every Firecontrol tracked is actually amiming at you. When i Play WoE wit more modern planes and missiles the I try to keep dogfight short... better to get out empty but alive than to be shoot down... also, excluding some rare exception, dogfighing will blee western fighters energy very very quickly leaving you forced to fly straight until you recover speed... for SAM be proactive... carry a lot of antiradiation missiles! If you put out of service their radar they will not annoy you
  7. Maybe I am an old whiner... but I am still searching for a definitive PTO flight simulations... yes I have played CFS2 to the death and have Pacific Fighters... but... CFS2 was a bit weird and I find PF like an half finished products... some of the campaigns, esecially the carrier based ones, seems bland, the aircraft slelction is weird, I can't fly torbedo bombers, some planes aren't here (Ki 45, Catalina, Helldiver) and a lot of ships are missing... so I am still waiting... there are other possibilities for a fanatic PTO fan even as far adding contenent to other sim is concerned or I have simply to whine?
  8. PTO simulations

I was thinking on those lines (played it on a friend copy year ago...) to be quite honest we need something like that today with updated graphics and engine... maybe someone will do a mod for SF2 along these lines. Or maybe I have to dig out CFS2 and check mods for it... who knows... BTW any modder here can recommend something? To be quite honest I have decided that Strike fighters has much more soul than Pacific Fighter... the immersion facto is bigger...
  9. Uhm... I have some doubt on your question... if you ask how much effective is missile avoidance in reality and how it works the reply is "it depends". From what I have read and have been told missiles were not the end of the world... during vietnam war, the best SAM defensive tactics was to fly in close pod formation and trust your jammers. Missile avoidance were perfomed as a last resort. And usually I do the same thing in WOV with realistic results (much better if I can spot the SAM launch... much worse if I don't...) Also even in the textbook says turn hard to outmaneuver the incoming missile that work only if you see it. More often than not if there are too many planes and missiles around even in the old Janes F15 missile avoidance was worthless... they are two faces of the same coin... remember that the missiles are no only very fast, but... they are usually guided and can sustain more G than you... and that a lot of missiles, and not only the older ones, are easily fooled by jammers and chaff/flare. The end results is that more often than not avoidance manuvers are a last stand if the normal defensive stuff doesn't work. It also depends on the plane you are flying and on what the bad guys are shooting at you (and also the reverse, shooting sparrows at a SU33 will not be really effective even in WOE...). If you ask if the missile system of SF series need a rework, i think that for what I have seen missile modelling is accurate enough and with the available weapons pack it reflects the development of the missile technology pretty well. The only Thing I miss is the automatic chaff\flare release of modern planes, but from my experience the missile effectiveness ratio is looking decent (much more than other games... I can complain on problems in LOMAC with F15C radar and AIM120 having problem to deal with MIG23...) and you chanches to not get it are realistic if you do the right things at the right moment (and if you aren't unlucky... once I did a perfect missile avoidance over germany in a Strike Eagle only to see a little nice Zoo 23 targetting me...).
  10. Ok, I know it is a silly question... but after a year I have finally decided to equip my laptop with a joystick and play flight sims even when I are away from my trusty desktop at home... need to shot down people sometime... I am eyeing SF2 beacuse it will be fully vista compatible (the new thing has vista...) and I love the SF series... but I want also to add some mods (My original SF1 copy was stuffed with new planes, maps and campaigns...) so what I definitely can add and what I don't want to add to a new fresh SF2 install? Arrigo
  11. I know that i'ts silly, but I have noticed that every internet vendor and website )(to not speaking of magazines) has a differente set of system requirement. Until now I have put Legacy on buying hold both for that treaosn and for the not so nice reviews read... but the trekkie inside me wants this game and now it has finally reached a reasonable price... so... 1) what are system requirements (I have a P4 2ghx, 1gb RAM, GeForrce 6600GT 128) 2) the patches have solved the problems? 3) Controls are configurable (I am left handed and my PC station is caters ot that... mouse on the left so using WASD instead of arrows is a pain...) thanks in advance Arrigo
  12. System requirements and advice needed

Hi and thanks for the replies... in the end I have wanted to test it myself and grabbed my bike gone to a friend house and in pure Starfleet security manner persuaded him that we need to confiscate that merchandise for security reasons and after return to my home tested it... ok I have done only first mission but the game is running smoothly (maybe the 1gb RAM is wokring miracle) even in battle. That and the fact that at the end of summer I will have to buy a laptop and it will be safely beyond specs... I will buy the game. Now I ma experimenting with my friend copy for some days, after that I will take the kind offer to remap command beacuse my left handed desk is a nightmare... (the funny thing is that I am ambidextrous to the envy of family and friends, but I have created for several reasons a lefthand desk layout... ) Arrigo
  13. Any news on the appearance of this plane for us poor players? And there will be an VF111 skins (I need it for a weird project needeing a series of good screenshots)
