Graphic anomolies ( ground/terrain textures )
WilliVonBill replied to beveryafraid's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
I've been having the same problem on and off. Weird stuff... sometimes it's a graphic of an instrument, other times it's the skin of a plane, still other times it's all sorts of weirdness. Its like flying in a Salvidore Dali painting. Its a very hit and miss thing. Sometimes I get hit by the weird graphics... other times I can fly for hours without any graphical weirdness. I'm running a gtx 260 with the latest drivers. My cpu is a q6600 multicore. Nothing overclocked. No heat problems. Only does this in OFF. I've tried turning down my sliders, but no joy. Like I said... its hit or miss. -
Update Status - a wee roadmap
WilliVonBill replied to Winder's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
To co-incide with the release of the Addons there will be a further OFF update Patch that addresses some other minor issued picked up along the way. P4 development continues in the background. Excellent news! Would perhaps a revisit of the SPAD's FM be in there somewhere? Bit of an issue with the stall speed as I recall... Cheers! WvB -
Yeah, looks like RoF has sound fundamentals... I think it will build into quite something after a patch or two and, of course, some more planes to fly. It certainly has a earned a spot on my harddrive, along with OFF BH&H and First Eagles. All in all, not a bad time to be a WWI sim junkie! Excellent news that 2.10 is in final testing! I love BoB2... it's set in what has always been my favorite air battle of WW2 and you guys have done some amazing work with that sim. Really first class. Cheers! WvB

Might as well toss in my 2 cents worth, but bear in mind I've only flown SP in RoF so I really have no opinions one way or the other about RoF MP. I like the FM. Has a well... natural feel to it. I can feel when I'm starting to bite the edge of a stall or spin based on the planes handling characteristics. It just really struck me as feeling very right for a WWI sim. Also like the damage model. Certainly not too easy to shoot down the enemy. I've had some kills where I'd just bang away and shred the guy up and he still wouldn't go down. Other times I've gotten lucky and had a flamer after a couple of bursts. Seeing the gunner in the back seat of a two-seater slumped down after I hit him was extremely cool. And watching planes fold up their wings and crash is also quite cool. The AI seems to be varied. I've come across some that gave me a run for my money and, frankly, shot my butt down. Other times I've seen 'em do rookie moves like diving too steeply and shedding their wings, or not be as aggressive on the attack. And it was nice to fly a campaign mission with 5 other SPADs in a beautiful V formation and watching them peel off to attack a pair of German two-seaters. AI wingmen that actually help you out. What a radical concept (and one that I've seen in OFF as well, I might add). Visually it's quite good, and I personally haven't had any problems with mapping my controls or ctds or lockups. Not wild about the online authentification everytime I wish to fly, but it hasn't been a problem for me either. Not yet anyway. Load times for missions seems to me to be about the same as the mission load time for IL2. The sound is particularly well done, IMHO. The doppler effect when a plane flys by you is first rate. Really wish there were a couple of more flyables in the initial release. Honestly, SPADs and Fokker VIIs are usually not my favorities in a WWI sim. I'm more of a circle jerker rather than a boom n zoomer. Would have loved to have had a Camel, but would have been happy with an SE5a. All in all, after a little bit of a learning curve, I'm really enjoying the heck out of it. It's really quite addictive and for me has more pros than cons. It still needs some more polish (please activate the 'options' button so that I can play with my settings in game!), and some more flyables. Oh, and they really need to have someone who's first language is english to 'tidy up' some of their in game text. I'm afraid I chuckle a bit when I read some of the mission texts. Lastly, I hope they do away with the silly online authentification. Me personally, I'm glad I got it. It really is quite something to fly once you get the hang of it. Besides, I haven't heard anyone complaining lately about there being too many WWI flight sims on the market! I've added this one to my stable of flight sims, right next to OFF. Again, all IMHO.... Cheers! WvB

Excellent! Nice to know that the SPAD fm is getting a look see. Thanks for bringing me up to speed. Cheers! WvB

Good thread to bump, IMHO. So, has anyone had any success tweaking the stall speed on the SPAD VII or SPAD XIII? Perhaps Polovski or Winding Man might chime in with their thoughts on the SPAD fm? Cheers! WvB

Latest Nvidia XP Graphics driver V185.85
WilliVonBill replied to Cameljockey's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Works well with my GTX 260. Appears to be a bit of a bump in fps and the graphic rendering is even smoother in the sim. A keeper for me. -
Easy way to increased OFF FPS
WilliVonBill replied to Panama Red's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey, nice to see ya Royce... last time I saw you kicking around you were still a lowly Lt. Gee... Royce, Panama Red... its turning into a regular old home week around here! Makes me want to go fiddle with some FMs LOL...... WvB -
How is the "new" update 1.30 and "hard damage"
WilliVonBill replied to CW3SF's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm liking it, myself. I don't have too much trouble bringing down huns in my trusty SE5a, but I like to get very up close and personal on my targets. At range I have to bang away all day to get one smoking. Had 7 kills on 15 missions with 56 Squadron, but lost it when I had to do a reinstall, dang it! -
Hi all, 1sat post and some noob questions...
WilliVonBill replied to VF101_KurtStudent's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Ahhh... so there is no key stroke for 'unjamming'? I take it that you have a 'die roll' chance that your gun will 'unjam' if you keep pulling the trigger? And yes Pol... I finally got OFF phase 3. Quite good work you, Winding Man, and company have done. Well done! WvB -
Any one else having a hard time purchasing online?
WilliVonBill posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey, I'm tryin guys... but Avangate is giving me errors when I try to finalize the purchase. I went though the possible causes the error message gave, but none of them applied. The card is good and and is active for online purchases (I used it to buy my upgrades for my PC, so I know it works); double checked the data entry on my part and it was all present and accounted for. Still no go. Anyone else having this problem or am I just the lucky one? -

WilliVonBill replied to WilliVonBill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks for the support guys. It finally went through... but it was all a bit insane, I must say. I do believe the checkout site was a bit wonky this evening, noticed that a verfication text box finally showed up on the checkout page that wasn't there the first four times I tried checking out. Hopefully I won't be charged for 5 copies of OFF! Of course if I am... I'll just come lookin' for you Shredward! S! WvB -
Il2- 1946
WilliVonBill replied to FlyingFinn's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I was on the fence myself... finally went ahead and got it... and I'm glad I did! For me, the improved FM's alone were worth getting it. Oh, and the new what-if planes are kind of spiffy too! -
What is DGen?
WilliVonBill replied to agrippa's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Basically it's the offline (i.e. single player) dynamic campaign generator that's included with the sim. There is also an excellent 3rd party dynamic campaign generator called DCG that Paul Lowengren released. You can find out more about DCG over at Lowengrin.com. I switch between DGen and DCG regularly... depends on what campaign I want to fly. Hope this helped in some small way..... Cheers!
