XH558 finally flies.... Sky News report: http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1288877,00.html BBC News report: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicest...ire/7049694.stm The best bit is there's a guy called Tombstone over on the PPRUNE forums who famously said: "I will walk around every into each Sqn crewroom at Marham, naked with a rose between my arse cheeks, singing a song of your choice if the Vulcan ever flies again. " Anyone know of a florists ? Cheers, Battler -
This is your wakeup call...

For some reason in our office if anyone shouts "ALARM" we all jump up, repeatedly scream "ALARM" at the top of our voices and run down to one end of the office trying to get as far as we can to the end of the room. If you've ever seen that great series about the U-boat crews called 'Das Boot' you'll understand. -
Battle of Britain Campaign Feedback
BattlerBritain replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
Wrench, OK Dood. Didn't know about the decal bleed issue and I can understand about the priorities list. With respect to the Battle of Britain film for some reason they decided NOT to depict the actual squadron markings or specific pilot names for any of the RAF Squadrons, so AI doesn't represent any particular Squadron. I also think the same is true for the Germans, eg in the famous scene where Goering berates the Jagdflieger the pilot who replies "Give me a squadron of Spitfires" wasn't called Adolf Galland in the film (I think). However, for the RAF Robert Shaw is meant to represent Sailor Malan of 74 Sqdn (ZP) . The Poles are meant to be 303 Sqdn (RF). Thats' about as specific as you can get for the film. And yeah - if I was any sort of an artist I'd have a go at doing the BoB skin pack. If I could do anything like what they've done for the skins in BoB2 I'd be a happy man Cheers, Battler. -
Battle of Britain Campaign Feedback
BattlerBritain replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
Oh yeah, nearly forgot, the 2-letter squadron codes always go to the left of the fuselage roundel. Hence the Hurricane picture above viewed from the right should have the LE codes the other side of the roundel towards the tail. -

Just caught up with this thread. Wrench, from your post above are you after the complete list of RAF Squadrons, their locations and squadron letters? If so that information is around. It's certainly on the BoB2 forums over at Shockwave. Somebody's also just done a new BoB campaign map showing the Squadron locations. Checkout the thread at: http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8866 BoB2 also recently did a complete set of skins for RAF and German aircraft of the BoB. Check out the thread at: http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/view...7aefa8ecb756829 . Now wouldn't it be nice if we had a similar set of skins for BoB in SFP1? By the way, your Spitfire skins are good but the underwing roundels have the 1941 style large red centre. For 1940 they should have the small red centre. Picky I know, but what the heck? Cheers for all your good work, Battler -

This is a superb add-on. It looks right, flies right (perhaps even a little too sedate?) and the cockpit is just great Having seen the Vulcan at Air Displays in the UK I can confirm that the Vulcan produced an ear-splitting roar louder than anything I've ever heard. In fact the Vulcan used the same engines as in Concorde, only Concorde had afterburner, and you know how loud Concorde was! Hence I might swop the sound to that of the Lighning add-on to get that rumble-in-the-stomach feeling. Cheers to the guys that made this - you made this Dood real happy Battler -
Dear All, Thought you might be interested in knowing that Indian Air Force SU-30s are heading for an Air Defence exercise in the UK against Tornado F3's + AWACS. Post at: http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Images/S...s/Indradhanush/ Should be interesting. Maybe a few piccies might appear at iBAviationPhotography at http://forums.airshows.co.uk/cgi-bin/ukarb...cgi?;act=SF;f=9 over the coming weeks? Cheers, Battler

MiG-19PM Farmer-E Mod -Ver 2.0
BattlerBritain replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Hi Wrench - yeah I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions. The Famer-E mod calls for the 17PF to add the nose. The latest WeaponsPack I have is 3 Jul 06. In there it has the 17PF mod listed as: [WeaponData1097] TypeName=17PF FullName=RP-1(Mig-17PF) ModelName=M17PF Mass=252.000000 Diameter=0.500000 Length=1.000000 AttachmentType=NATO NationName=SOVIET StartYear=1953 EndYear=1985 Availability=2 BaseQuantity=12 Exported=FALSE ExportStartYear=0 ExportEndYear=0 ExportAvailability=0 WeaponDataType=4 StoreType=0 JammerStrength=0.000000 This calls the M17PF model, which isn't in the WeaponsPack. So I edited my Farmer to use the 17PFU which is in the WeaponsPack. I also edited the AttachmentType to be SOVIET and not NATO (seems a bit strange having it as NATO?). Hope this helps, Battler. -
MiG-19PM Farmer-E Mod -Ver 2.0
BattlerBritain replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I've got the latest Weapons Pack but I only got the 17PF nose to appear by altering the 17PF entries in the DATA.INI and the LOADOUT.INI to read 17PFU. I also changed the attachment type to read SOVIET instead of NATO for the Farmer and the nose pack. I couldn't find the M17PF modelname that the weapons pack calls for in the latest Weapons Pack. Changing the MiG-19 entries to read 17PFU picks up the other 17 nose. Also the Alkalis hang a bit high on the pylons so I altered the attachment positions to read -0.41 instead of -0.21. The weapons also appear to need rotating 180 deg so AttachmentAngles were altered accordingly, eg: AttachmentPosition=-1.21,2.50,-0.41 AttachmentAngles=0.0,0.0,180.0 Alkalis still can't hit a barn door at 10 paces though :) -

BattlerBritain replied to BattlerBritain's topic in Military and General Aviation
Get some good ones Dood. You gonna post over at iBAviation? Reading over at the PPRUNE forums the RAF are really looking forward to having them over. Apparently the Indian Air Force hosted the RAF really well when the RAF went to India a while back. The RAF are looking to return the hospitality. Should be good though. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that AWACS when the fur starts flying. -

Great add-on guys. Really like this one. A classic vehicle that is just what a Typhhon needs However, armour looks a bit thin for a Tigger. I'd suggest beefing this one up a bit to something like: Can't post as the forum says there's a BBCode problem - bu$$er! Try just doubling the armour values then? Cheers, Battler -

Another good source of aircraft availability with dates is over at the Canvas Eagles web site: http://canvaseagles.diplomacy.ca/aircraft_...lity_charts.htm They seem accurate enough but have the Siemens-Schukert down as French when it is in fact German. The rest of the Canvas Eagle rules are at: http://www.eaglesmax.com/index.html They are good fun so try them if you like. -

New Fokker D7F Flight model +/- Spins, uploaded
BattlerBritain replied to rotagen's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I've tried this new FM for the DVII of rotagens and I don't like it. Pitch rate is much reduced as is roll rate, so I've put the original back in. -
Things to come from Third Wire ...
BattlerBritain replied to BUFF's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I do understand where PCPilot's coming from, although for me MP doesn't matter as I'd never play it anyway (no broadband and no interest in MP). But the GUI for FE is the same as SFP1 and with very little effort could be improved to give gameplay a big boost. For example in FE in the Loadouts screen there's a button to Add planes to the mission which even allows you to select Enemy planes. They end up flying on your side but with a simple Friendly/Enemy toggle you then take the Loadout screen to a simple Mission generator. And why are the skins all the same for one type of plane? In WW1 just about every German plane had a different camo on it. With FE the Fokker D7's have quite a few skin folders to choose from but by default all planes just use 1. How about a Random skin option to make the planes at least look a bit different? The biggest thing that improves gameplay, in my mind, is the terrain and ground objects, especially if you're flying down low as in FE. Without all the great add-ons that have come out where would this game be? Look at Yankee Air Pirate and the soon-to-be released Falklands add-on and you can see what levels you can take this game to. Without them the game really is a bit bland. I've been collecting TK's collecting SF series of games since they came out, and I play them most days, but I'm getting a bit bored with just a different bitmap on the interface and the same mission format. Come on TK, tweek the gameplay a bit, huh?
