  4. I've finally gotten the hang of the radar for BVR strikes. Woohoo. Here is the result of an AIM-7E-2 strike from 20nm using an F4.
  5. Not with Sparrows. I've got 2 friendlies with Sidewinders though. Need to be more careful about launching them in a tight turn. When going for the BVR kill, I'll get him locked up, then use the F6 key to cycle through and make sure that I've got a bad guy.
  6. Just extract them from the cat file. If you're looking for something other than the defaults I can't help.

  8. Actually, I was referring to my wingmen. Those guys always come back with a full missile load. I think I've heard Fox 1 maybe 2 times in 30 missions. Fox 2 never. What I would really like to be able to do is when I'm shooting BVR to have the entire flight do the same. You know, Death from afar. 8 AIM-7E's launched at once would make a terrific screenie. :D Not to mention the surprise on the MIG pilots face. As for the other matter, the direction of the missile strike, I watched one today and it appeared that I was mistaken, the MIG wasn't flying directly at me but diagonally across my flight path. So that would explain the direction of the strike. Jim
  9. Yep, will try that. Now to get my flight to launch on them too. Also, is it just me or does the AI only use guns?
  10. Pretty sure they didn't turn. I have the settings at normal right now as I'm still trying to learn the sim. I locked him up and headed straight at him and the yellow triangle didn't appear to deviate from the heading he was on. Not really too worried about it, as I got a kill, but just thought it was weird.
  11. I just realized something. This was a head-on engagement, but the missile came around from the rear. Too weird. Am I wrong or shouldn't the missile have just homed in on the radar locked aircraft from what ever direction it was fired?

  13. I modded the German F-4F's that are available on the web. I extracted the F-4E loadout and data ini files from the ObjectData.cat. Renamed them F-4F****, added the change to the loadout file. Then also had to edit the data file to add the AIM-7E and AIM-9E as valid weapons for those stations. Then I changed the F-4F.ini file to point to the new files instead of the F-4E files. I can e-mail if you'd like to see them. Best mission so far with this loadout was 8 Tu-22's. Had a couple of missles left but no boogies. :(

Try this, get your air-to-air set to the AIM-7, disengage from the MIG, extend to 6+ miles, set your radar to bore-sight mode, do an Immelmann (half loop and half roll at the top), reduce thrust, line up the MIG in the center of the HUD to get the yellow lock triangle, launch your AIM-7 keeping the MIG as close to centered as you can. Now wait. You should get a strike.
  16. Puff started as a DC-3, then they went to the C-130 aka AC-130 Specter. Due to the greater lift weight, they could carry heavier weapons and more ammo. Also, has better night vision equipment. My dad worked on these at Ubon AB, Thailand during the great war. Um, oops, the police action. :) Hope you can get it working as it will allow us to slay many baddies.
  17. Ok, now I feel like an idiot. I cannot for the life of me remember where I saw those FM's. I didn't download them as I am awaiting the patches. Don't get into to a turning fight with a MIG, you'll bleed off too much airspeed and then you are toast. Disengage, extend, use the AIM-7's, you'll do great. I haven't found a plane in the sim yet that can out-turn the default MIG-17 & MIG-19.

  19. Any one have any pointers on flying Ground Attack missions? I've flown some and only succeeded in 1. Don't have too much problem if I'm using the rockets, but bombs are beyond me. TIA...

    Brought a tear to my eye. What a hoot. And yeah SnakeEyes would make a great addition to the game. Anybody up for creating this as an add-in? Beyond my skills.

  23. If you do, there is no going back (well except with a new install). I've had good success with it. No failures at all. My sims are smoother and there seems to be a frame rate improvement in FS2002. Strike Fighters is definitely smoother after than before. Graphics quality is the same. I have new drivers for my video card waiting to be installed, hopefully they will correct the last of my AA problems in FS2002. My machine: AMD XP1900+ 512mb ATI Radeon 8500 64mb Catalyst 2 drivers WinXP Pro Thinking about getting a 9700 but haven't as I've heard to many folks have problems with it. Jim
  24. I think the best thing to do would be to install the updated FM's that are available. This will give you a better chance against the MIG's. As I learned, the hard way, don't get into a turning match with the MIG's; try to extend and then use the AIM-7's. I've been having great luck, by extending to 6nm or so (in a climb, as you should be faster), then performing an Immelmann and flying straight at the offender and launching at about 4 to 5nm or so. Guaranteed kill if you keep the yellow triangle on. Don't do this with AIM-9's as it won't work. Jim
