Missions and Campaign problems
Swordsman422 replied to jpenn517's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Sounds to me like there is a conflict between your campaign.ini and campaign_data.ini in terms of aircraft types. Can you post them both in a reply here to be looked at? -
Having been owned cats and hand-reared kittens my entire life, I can tell you this is part of the normal slowing down process. The last time I had a cat pass away was four years ago. He was 19 and had been on the decline for a while. I could get up in the morning, go to work with him sleeping in his cat bed and come home 10-12 hours later to still find him there. He would find the energy to get up and greet me. 12+ is considered the geriatric phase of a cat's life in veterinary circles. They sleep more, eat less, have less playful energy, and as he gets even older, he may start having issues keeping himself clean. Trust me, the image of the dignified old housecat is totally false. What you are seeing is normal. Keep loving him, keep playing with him when he has the energy. However, if you have any doubts, concerns, or reservations, the best thing you can do for peace of mind is take him to the vet and have him checked out. Cats are predators, but they are also a prey species, and their instincts are Darwinian. They don't broadcast that they are in any pain or discomfort. And while their methods of communication can be just as complex as language, it isn't like you can ask them what's wrong. If you see something that concerns you, go see a professional. Good luck.

VF-11 Red Rippers OIF
Swordsman422 replied to Swordsman422's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Antares, With VF-31, what period, if separate from the VF-33 request? With VF-33 or most other early 80's jets I can look and see if it is doable. If their CAG/CO aircraft were painted with a different base coat than the line aircraft, I'll have to skip it until I can get my decals-as-textures project finished. That's why I haven't yet tackled VF-213 Black Lions Last Tomcat Cruise. Lion 213 was painted in FS 16440, and Lion 204 was painted a standard TPS of FS 35237, FS 36320, and FS 36375, while the rest of the squadron used the VF-213 TPS variation with FS 35237 just over the canopy, nose, and spine. Until I can completely replace the base skin with decals, I don't want to attempt it. -
VF-11 Red Rippers OIF

Planning on doing VF-154 for both OIF and their Millennium scheme. That'll mean we'll have every fleet Tomcat squadron that survived the mid-90's budget axe covered at least once. -
Strike Fighters 2 Screenshots

Winchester guns kill on a MiG-25. Kinda counts for alcohol, too. VF-11 borrowed the Gordon's Dry Gin label for their insignia. -
Given that the USS John C. Stennis is mentioned to be newly commissioned into service, No earlier than 1998.

Squadron Markings By Year
Swordsman422 replied to Z09SS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The decals are specific to the skins, as without serious modification of the squadrons.ini the squadron markings cannot be differentiated. For whichever skin is in question, go look at the decals.ini. The component you are looking at will give you the decal format name. Look in the squadron.ini to find the number of the squadron on the list and that will give you the specific decal you are looking for. VF-142 used the scheme with the Ghostrider imposed over the tail code AE for their final deployment on USS America. Next cruise they were with CVW-7 and on the Eisenhower. Best bet if you've messed up a mod, redownload it and reinstall. -
Any word on a new 'Strike Fighters 2' title?
Swordsman422 replied to TeaAndScones's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I think if I were to put an upper limit on stock aircraft, it would end at 1989. Just enough to excuse AG radar and give the AI better smart bomb delivery. Plus that's still Cold War. But that will never happen unless TK releases the source code or gets interested in PC again. -
What brings you back to SF2?
Swordsman422 replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The ability to blast over West Germany in 1959 in an F-100 gunning down MiG-17s, then walk the line in the Taiwan Strait, ready to smack down a half-dozen Q-5s with my F-14's quiver of Phoenix missiles. I can do anything in any aircraft from the beginning of the jet age to beyond tomorrow. And while the controls might be fairly generic, the flight dynamics and at least the avionics limitations are realistic enough to satisfy 80% of my flight sim needs. That and that the community keeps giving this thing a heartbeat. I think I'll stop playing it when the last computer I have with a compatible OS dies. -
[HELP] Linking aircraft skin/decals to aircraft number
Swordsman422 replied to shomu1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
No problem. You can learn more by looking in the decals.ini within the folder for these skins. If you want to make some of your own, these skins would be adequate templates for decal experimentation. Any of my skins for the TMF F-14s can be used to make new stuff just by modifying the decals. Most VF and VFA squadrons used a common 2- or 3-tone TPS paint scheme as a base with squadron specific markings applied over. I have Adobe Photoshop, but I think any program that can edit .tga and allow for transparency would work to edit or create new decals. Good luck.
