  6. Songs for the Mess

Another favorite of mine I don't want to join the army, I don't want to go to war. I'd rather hang around dear old London town, Living off the earnings of a lady typist. I don't want a bayonet in my belly, I don't want my bollocks shot away. I'd rather stay in England, in merry, merry England, And fornicate this bleedin' life away. A good book on the subject is: The Daily Telegraph Dictionary of Tommies' Songs and Slangs, 1914-18 by John Brophy & Eric Partridge
  7. Songs for the Mess

'When this rotten war is over' is my favourite - it was my tank troop smoker (drinking beers around a large fire) song!
  8. I'm New

A belated welcome also from me
  9. Is this the best Forum ever?

' To the Gentlemen at the top I couldn't agree more and my thanks also go out to the Combatace administrators for letting you weirdly wonderful chaps in here... this is without doubt the only WW1 Forum I will ever need... all of you make this feel like a special place to visit. So I am in definite agreement... to Widowmaker Lou Olham and all you who are too numerous to mention dont forget the wonderful developers for creating this madness... the Combatace guys and girls et al... and last but not least that old timer in the corner of the mess that is UncleAl' I whole heartily agree - you only have to visit other site forums to realise that this forum is very special!

Excellent - Thank you widow for sharing with us. Hasse Wind - 'However, all too often you could replace 'politician' with 'general' or 'admiral' in a poem such as that' As a British soldier of 23 years, I also had my fair share of incompetent junior and field offiers.
