80's Afghanistan campaign
Gr.Viper replied to The Trooper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
We even know where to get it in a relatively complete state. BTW, flying Hind in modded EECH is a spooky experience vs. all those SAM sites, Comanche, Apache with their radars. And you have only terrain for cover. -

It's not even clear whose plane that is Top has Indian colours, bottom is Russian. Just a show-off... Or use slimmer pilots... -

Well, they made a MiG 27 with AL-31 engine. Thrust increased by 1000kg, weight reduced by 200kg, fuel efficiency up 15%. Initially they plan to upgrade 60 planes out of India's ~150. MiG-23BM and MiG-23 can be upgraded with this engine too. -
What do i chose?!?!?

Beware that there's an upcoming update for older games that will bring their AI, FM and to some extent graphics to the level of WoI. That means that some mods and add-ons will need an update or tweaks. BTW, if you buy from TW online store the installer seems to be already of the latest available version. The WoV I got from there is v. 8.30.06 without applying any patches or service packs. In theory that means that WoE and WoV and SFP1 people will download from there after the coming update will already be improved, and for them there won't be any reverting to earlier builds to play with some old add-ons. -
A2G?!

There was also a report of Hind shooting down a fighter jet head-on but I looked through available info and they all mention different weapon - ATGM, rockets, and gun -

I doubt that real Hind tactics can be used in TW engine, though... They used to fire flares continiously while moving through hot area to make it difficult for Stingers to lock onto them, because after the missile acqiured its target chances to fool it were pretty low. -
A2G?!
Gr.Viper replied to Mannie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
AFAIK, real attack choppers can use their A2G missiles against slow-flying targets. At least Russian "Vikhr" can be fired that way... -

Just don't take the movie seriously... the story kinda wanders off real events much as possible. Those who fly Mi-24 will enjoy it big time -

It looks easy to fly when no one's around. I wonder if one can actually use touchscreen in high-g pull... -

Anyone knows a fix for A-4 Gunpod? When installed on central pylon the barrels of the gun stick through front gear leg. It either shouldn't go there at all or should be shifted backwards. -

I'd suggest running MoH: Pacific Assault on PC - jungle fights where you can't see a thing behing bushes are awesome. Like Vietcong 1. -

Planes with rotary engines have no carburettor. Fuel and oil come into engine from one end through crankshaft, air comes from the other end. Pilot can control fuel mixture by adjusting fuel valve and air intake valve but there is no throttle lever. If you want lower RPM you reduce fuel flow, and then balance the air intake to make engine run properly. Changes in altitude require adjustment too. If mixture is not perfect the engine is either choked with extra fuel or has not enough. So with all this valves accurate throttle tweaking is done mostly for formation flight. In combat instead of complex adjustments simple cutting of ingnition i.e. blip switch is more convenient if you need to slow down. Some engines had ability to switch off ignition only on several cylinders not to lose power completely. Look through this to learn more about a sucessful rotary design http://www.enginehistory.org/Gnome%20Monosoupape.pdf -
