SF2: North Atlantic
Gr.Viper replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Knowledge Base
Just google Iceland and forest http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Europe/Iceland/photo208513.htm -
Can someone explain THIS one?

Can you check if the old stock maps cause the game to freeze on exiting a mission in both exes? It's just like the Gen1 Vista terrain shader bug. -

Now, since the engine supports off the map strikes, the Falklands/Malvinas seem within reach. And North Atlantic leaves room for South Atlantic. How's vegetation there? -
For Anyone Using Kouts USN Fighters Theme

Oh, you could just smear the extra ones out with black crayon, Soviet censorship-style. Another fitting pic would be Kiev in its current hotel mode. -

You can even score kills on trees. Nam mods could use defoliant. -

Since "Request Help" never works for the F-4 in NA, I've got a theory. The flight spawned isn't random, but comes from one of the free fighter squadrons of the same service on the map. -

So, it's penetration, then. -

It could surface at long range when the shaders take over... although a very short-distance LOD could help. -

BTW, the camera can go a little below the dynamic wave mesh. I wonder if a really flat sub can be modded there. -

Now WW2 mods can have V1, V2, Mistel... And target drones. -

Say, anyone noticed that at least ground object rendering distance doesn't depend on FOV at all. If Kiev just appeared on the horizon in zoomed in view, it's there in fully zoomed out as well. -

US carrier group air defenses are crap. Brave Royal Jordanian AF Hunters mostly got through, had free gun strafing runs on the carrier (went as far as "Three is out of ammo"). Sadly, Jordanian training didn't cover bombing, as most guys kept the irons under wings flying around in confusion. -

TK doesn't want them to engage each other. The pew-pew cannons do little damage and the accuracy is quite terrible. -

Try lighter load. It seems a lot of Icelandic airports were designed primarily with seaplanes in mind. -

Skyraider, no ECM, GO! Wing leveler works wonders on jets at 15-20m ASL. -

This is not a radar screen, it's a tactical display showing contacts gathered by all the flights and the Hawkeye. At least it says so in the manual :) Select Phoenix, pick a close bunch of enemy targets, mark them and approach. Range to target vs. missile range is indicated on top of the screen. "Hot trigger" LED will light up and the target mark will start flashing on the display. Launch the missiles and hope that intense jamming put up by Bears and modified Badgers won't make most of your salvo miss. The odds aren't very good, but Sparrows are pure junk against those bombers. -

F-4 campaign is full of surprises. Like flying to hit a runway with one wingman, no escort, no help from Red Crown and 8 Floggers to kick your ass in overcast weather. A perfect mountain dodging trial. Wingie and 4 Floggers crashed, I hit the ground once for no damage, then again almost at home plate (two MiGs walked me home), lost a wingtip, balanced for a bit and ejected over a base. -

Soviets are given the Eastern half of Iceland with a few airfields. MiGs start there. Bombers come from off-map. Yaks start and land on Kiev, but at the moment they tend to roll off the deck and crash on take off.
