Yeah, those Swiss turned Hunter into a true monster -

Fighter pilots make kills
Gr.Viper posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
A lovely display of the principle. Stock SF2E 1978 campaign, advanced into October 1979. No reflys. In the North there are tons of mobile Harriers and Warthogs, which are doing a job on their own. In the South there's my F-15 squadron with over a hundred kills. Like it's helping ayone. Feel kinda sorry for the second ace in the squadron. He scored kills faster that I did, then in one mission caught a stray AA-8 (IIRC) and ejected. He wasn't strictly wounded but his condition was very bad, so taking him on missions wasn't really wise for nearly a year. -
Some close-up pics of Flogger

Found this 100MB archive while browsing http://rapidshare.com/files/169279221/Mig_23_UB_No._8109.rar A set of pictures of a Czech MiG-23UB. Might be useful for adding fine (very fine) detail on Flogger skins as the archive contains pictures of engine exhaust (including the inside), gear bays, cannon, hatches and other stuff that could be photographed from the ground. -
Here if I get an R44 license I'll have to pass medical once every two years and that's pretty much it.

Fubar, can you run the same test in Nam with a mission involving a massive B-52 strike? -

Mig-17 maneuverability and FM
Gr.Viper replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Nam climate isn't exactly the best place to store aircraft, so stock preformance obviously takes a hit. Maybe TK could make fresh and worn variant for Fresco Secondly, roll controll goes siff earlier that elevators. Incredibly so if plane goes supersonic below 5000m. Also pulling g requires extra 0,8kg of pressure on the stick per unit, due to balancer. Another feature is that al low altitiude at speed over 800km/h elevator controls become extremely sensitive and require very gentle input and skill, otherwise the pilot can pull extremely high and then panic and push negaive g in a few moments. Perhaps damaging airframe. -
Mig-17 maneuverability and FM
Gr.Viper replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
600 and 350 knots at what altitude? Real Frescos had different control response at low and high altitudes, the planes themselves were differently built (ah, the Soviet industry) and the stick went stiff for roll and pitch control at different speed. Hydraulic boosters were enough for subsonic flight, though. MiG-17 Flight Manual says that if the plane starts to roll spontaneously at speed lower than 1060 km/h IAS (572 knots) at 1000 m and it cannot be compensated by slight stick deflection, the plane must be returned to factory for readjustment. Were any of the test Frescos brought there? -

I turn it off, because my eyes are not lenses and I don't see silly optic noise from the sun. -

Graphics memory isn't promising much. Right-click on desktop. Properties->Settings->Advanced->Adapter - What does it say in Adapter type? -

Again, which video card? Useless bunch... I should know, I graduated as one. -

Definitely a video card issue. Maybe drivers are celebrating their installation. Could also be a dying/old power supply. -
SA-2s
Gr.Viper replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That's the best thing about most missiles in TW sims. They miss, they aren't difficult to dodge and avoid, but at the same time ignoring them completely is asking for big trouble. Aside from SA-8. That's big trouble at any time. And, damn, you provoked me http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=6763 -
SA-2s
Gr.Viper replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
14 SA-2s will miss, the 15th won't leave you a chance to eject Their accuracy wasn't that great. I've seen figures that one out of 10 or out of 16 would hit, one out of 33 when ECM arrived, then 1/50, and finally one out of 100 when jamming became widespread. SA-2 is a 2-stage missile which uses an extra booster stage to gain speed and altitude. They don't guide it while the booster burns. -

"Too close for comfort" merge with own AIM-9P. The one tailing that Flogger. It got away The squadron is totally skinned. Supply at 19%, no Sparrows, 4 9Ls left, 9Ps are running out... Another week like that and well go through 9Js and go guns only. -

One day you chuckle at wingman, who got shot down by a single 30mm round, next day you get fragged by R-13 -
You know, looking at prices and shipping costs I'm starting to think of making a wargame of my own.
