To Drop External Tanks, or Not?

How do AIs manage? They stop fighting when low on fuel. -

I thought "check joker" means "prepare to glide". -
Mixup with german Air Units in '79 SF2E campaign?
Gr.Viper replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, the current RWR first was made complex on dll level in one of the patches, modders found it and used it, then TK added that feature officially and developed it further. So if you see some framework for dynamic airfields in the engine now, chances are high that after a few patches it might be there fully functioning. We're still waiting for Snoopy comeback. -

I think that's something close to Unlimited + mods for high-res terrain and the sky. -
So far cockpit shaking is actiated only when the wing is stalling. Is it possible to add this effect to firing cannons and taking hits? It's just that I was reading a descriprion of GSh-6-30 rotary and it's reported that the vibration caused by recoi on MiG-27 was enough to shatter printed circuits, bend airframe, break lights and knock fuses out. Once the instrument panel fell off and dropped in pilot's lap.

I'm really impressed with the mission generator
Gr.Viper replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I saw a MiG squadron with strength 20+ in SF2:E campaign. Strafed the field on A-10 destroying 5 parked aircraft and a number of structures. Next day that squadron was reported to have strength of 15+ and as I was flying through that area I saw that the buildings wrecked the day before remained ruins. Same applies to your squadron. Even in normal state-funded campagns (SF2 mercs have to buy each plane). If you "break" the plane and bail out, your squadron will be one plane short. Keep doing stuff like that and losing wingmen and one day you might discover that there's no plane to put another newbie in. -

One of the surprises the campaign generator gave me was a recon mission in which our flight (2 F-4Ms, sparrows , no 'winders) got bogey warnings approaching the mission waypoint. I looked at map/"datalink" and saw a) waypoint in the centre of a city, b) us entering the city from SW, c) red plane entering city from NE, d) red plane entering city from SE. RWR went crazy. Turned out they were all Floggers, 6 or 8 of them total. The wingman got out of this alive, I didn't. -

I sometimes think that Thud's elevators are there not for pitch control but to propel it in a dophin-like manner when the juice runs out. -
I bet, you've seen at least one of those. The best "Meow!", the cutest purr and the total mayhem in one furry package. NEW And now there will be The Book http://www.simonscat.com/book.html

What are you doing flying at 250-300 knots??? How do you move the stick? All the way or keeping wings at optimal angle of attack? -

Check ECM frequency bands as well. They might be different. -

Heh... I also was thinking about a Community Manual. Stock plane flight profiles, systems operation, instruments, weapons, combat tactics, AI handling tips, adding mods etc All in colour and with optional pdf version. Would be cool if it came with a bottomless fuel tank. -
Irritating radar on top right of screen
Gr.Viper replied to Planejunky's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Stock planes rarely flame out. By the time I get to the speed that overheats F-4 engines I usually run out of fuel. Once took Thud to M2.1 in level flight, saw overheat warning but no damage. -
The show was so staged, that sometimes it got totally surreal.

Leaning sideways also works in TW games - in FE you can look through gunsights this way. -
IIRC, the BBC lost nearly all of their Moon landing coverage. Magnetinc tape was expensive until the late 70s a lot of master copies were wiped and re-used.

A question about Download Section here on Combatace
Gr.Viper replied to DarthRevan's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
I've been getting this with Firefox in the forums. In a few cases "New messages" icon shows up even after I've read it. And pale "No mesages" was marking a thread with new replies several times. Not an pandemic or serious bug, but started to happen only recently. I think it's more for bug report section.
