please i want to know...
Fates replied to i_m_rommer's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
The Key words are "MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS"....and you see it on every box, thus it's in the FAQ. You have to set a baseline. The UNKNOWN at this time is "RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS" as they tweak the beta and optimize it for what's on the market today. Fates -

I don'tthink you'll much problem at all running the game. You MAY have to turn some effect down (SLIGHTLY), and you may need to turn mirrors off, but you system will be fine. The truth is that no-one knows. Fates -

OK, /soapbox on Everyone one of ya got some things correct and some things incorrect. The one thing that everyone so far has agreed to is that they will still look foward to playing the game. Seawolf, I completely disagree with "its been over a year since the Gold release" IMHO TK was forced by contract to put out an unfinished project. TK also takes alot of pride in his work. Thus you can only imagine that he was about as fumed about the whole situation as all of you are now. The Unfinished project IMO was not truely a GOLD but a Beta. If we assume it was a beta, then maybe Patch 1 ws the "GOLD", in which case Patch 2 is really patch 1, etc...etc... Please be patient...testing continues, and it continues because there doesn't need to be a single pilot crying about "When's the next patch coming out?" Dagger, I also disagree with "OK...so we loose a few Modders" IMHO The Modders are what make the game. Without them the game will die a quick death. They are the reason TK designed the game as he did. FS2002 is a boring sim IMO...but the Mods turn it into a great sim. Loosing any modder that has developed so much and inspired so many is a great loss... I'd rather say CYA to a whole lot of others then modders. I would like to see more information released just as much as the next guy, but..... Do we want to see eyeball candy and false hopes of a campaign engine like we have from LOMAC since 2001? I didn't think so. I'm also sorry that everyone paid for such a great game that hasn't performed as advertised. However, I do believe TK is making every effort to get this patch out for your enjoyment. With Enjoyment being the key word. No Crying, No Griping, just a satisfied customer that can understand what hard work has went in to a sim created by so few to put smiles on so many. /soapbox off Fates -

I think he was just restating the obvious. My only concern is: What stage of Beta Testing are they in? Are they just trying to squash bugs before they start burning CD's? Are they in an early beta, and still trying to get certain features imported into the game..ie heat effects, campaign engine. The heat effects thing sorta concerns me, I see pics with it and with out it. This may just be becuase some testers turn the switch off to acheive better framrates, or it could mean their just having trouble with it in the game. I'm leaning more towards the previous. Either way, until Wags updates the LOMAC site and announces it's GOLD, I'm not gonna believe it. Although a "GOLD" copy of SFP1 was found at Walmart a long time ago by BrewODB & BeerODB and the got hammered on SimHQ by those calling him a liar, until TK explained what happened. All I know is what anyone else knows, when I see the box on the shelves, then I'll still be buying it. Fates

CV-59 Aircraft Carrier
Fates posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
BigBeerODB has done it again. This time it the CV-59 Carrier christened for is initial voyage into SFP1. This Forrestal class ship was the Navy's first SUPER Carrier. Forrestal was the first carrier designed specifically to operate jet aircraft, and included an angled deck which permitted simultaneous takeoffs and landings. Forrestal's revolutionary design became the basis for all US carriers that followed. As the first aircraft carrier designed specifically for jet aircraft, she featured an armored flight deck. Additional "firsts" were an enclosed hurricane bow, steam-powered catapults for launching aircraft and four deck-edge elevators for moving aircraft to/from the hangar and flight decks. Here's the Screens: I'll get the files up soon... Fates -

Ranger.... Klinger once tried to get outta the Army because "Wifes-Brother Pregnant". I'm sorry dude but your photo edit of your photo album is a joke. If you were to turn the pics about another 2.8 Degrees to the left and maybe blured/darkened them a little it may have passed. And why all the other post...are we trying to detour from the real concern! Man you are a piece of work....is that someone elses piece of work... Fates www.Biohazcentral.com -

He posts this work as his and it is apparently not. He then tells a Member that theirs has been done before....and I Quote: From: http://forum.biohazcentral.com/index.php?showtopic=2240 Yours or not, where did you get the picture. My point being Ranger....your not putting up a very good case at all. If I were accused, I would post a link to website that I got the pic...and maybe admit to using it. The PIC IS the same. However I don't know if the Hanger Screen is the same...maybe MJ can confirm that. If the latter is true, then I would be pretty pissed. If you took the screen of a webiste somewhere and produced a similar screen that USAFMTL produced....then, well, goto the link above...it does happen. Needless to say Ranger, your track record isn't very shiny. You know it, I know it MJ knows it several over at SW know it. -

Reviving the sim industry or just putting it on life support
Fates replied to Hogpen13's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I disagree a little thier Dice. I fail to see how we are shooting ourselves in the foot by making HIGH-END games. If the end goal is to get more people playing flight sims, then we have to look at how to acheive that goal. and we can do it in many ways. 1) There are many games that don't require High-End machines to run. IAF and USAF are good examples as well as JF-18 and Flanker 2.5. Nurse the new SIM PILOT into one of these based on the Computer that he has. Peak their interest with online play as well. 2) Invite them over to play on a High-End Machine to see what all the talk is about. Let them experience what life could be like. 3) look into the older games like Janes WWII and Janes USAF. Show them how mods over the years have made them better and better. CFS is another one that has several mods that improves the game as well as working well with older machines. Eventually they will have to upgrade, lets say in 12 months. When they do, they may take their experience from these older games and plan more accordingly the next time they purchase a computer. What I'm really getting at is: I didn't learn math overnite. It took a great deal of time. I was hooked into flight sims a long time ago, but technology has changed and I changed with it to accomodate my hobby. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the MISTAKES that I see the FLIGHT SIM industry making is real easy. Popularity walks a fine line between Hardcore Simmers and Hardcore Gammers. If the game is too realistic...then only the hardcore simmer will play it....ie Falcon 4. If the game is too arcade, then only the gamers will play it....ie F22 Lightning. I think this is why games like Janes USAF became so popular. Both factions played it and dealt with the games faults of being less sim like or less arcade like. Why? Because of it's entertainment value. Let's all face it...the reason I buy anything to install in my computer is for its' entertainment value. Unfortunately everyone defines that term differently. I think both sides just need to understand that flight sims must contain a certain amount of enjoyment for everyone to be popular. This brings us back to your original concerns. How do we get more Flight Sim Pilots? Well.....You increase a games entertainment value. You have to make games that balance the SIM and ARCADE functions. LOMAC seems to be doing this. They have chosen the RIGHT aircraft for their audience. They have limited certain things like "CLICKABLE COCKPITS". They have an excellent Multiplayer setup with IL-2....I think that will carry over to LOMAC. All their decisions, IMHO, have been choosen to attract both Simmers and Gamers. That will incerease it's "Entertainment Value", which will attract more PILOTS. Add to that the pilots that are attracted from the lower end games that eventually upgrade to newer computers...and you have a whole new generation of Sim Pilots. -
NM Jeff....figured it out...had to resort them. Then ones I uploaded went to page 2....alls better now :) Fates

Lock On Video, 'Cobra'
Fates replied to S77th-Dante's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
All I got to say is get the game I think you'll find that with those BIG flight controls, you may just wind up on your back if you hold the elevator back to long....But, I'm sure the compressor will stall and both engines will flame out. If you want to practice before attempting to duplicate the video, do as us real pilots do. It's called "Approach to Landing" manuevers. You merely pick an altitude that you can recover from if something goes WRONG. I like to pick 3000' AGL. I consider that to be were the deck/runway is located. I start at 6000' AGL and attempt the manuever reaching the appropriate speed etc as if the runway were at 3000' Or, since its just a simulated game, crash alot. hehe Fates -
Lock On Video, 'Cobra'
Fates replied to S77th-Dante's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Kedas.... 1) It has been stated that Real Pilots are testing LOMAC for it's accuracy. This comes directly from Matt Wagner. 2) I have seen the cobra performed at airshow's. Momentum is a big factor, thus his dive from 3000 feet to the runway. But an even bigger factor is not the flight controls, but the Thrust to Weight ratio. I've seen this aircraft stand on it tail and near hover like a helicopter. It truely is a sight to see. It also something else to hear. Fates -
