This website is not a place to speak out on any poilitical and religious nature. CombatAce is a website that support Combat Simulations. The link has been removed. Sorry Nesher, I'm sure everyone is well aware of the situations in the middle east.... This closure is simply to overt any flame war on these forums. Fates

Sunday, 23 October 2005 The assault on the eye that is the Storm Eagle Studios Home heralds development of Distant Guns, their upcoming naval Combat Simulation (thanks StrategyZone OnLine). The game is set in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05, the unusual setting seemingly explained by the description of the game from Norm Koger, cofounder and "Maestro" of Storm Eagle Studios: "The game focuses on things that I personally find fun to deal with in a game, and I made no particular effort to bend to the mainstream marketing wisdom. That?s not the way things typically work in this industry."

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory...TC-RSSFeeds0312 SANTA MONICA, Calif. Oct 19, 2005 ? Environmentalists sued the Navy on Wednesday, claiming that a widely used form of sonar for detecting enemy submarines disturbs and sometimes kills whales and dolphins. The sonar "is capable of flooding thousands of square miles of ocean with dangerous levels of noise pollution," according to the lawsuit filed in federal court in Los Angeles. The Navy settled a similar lawsuit two years ago by agreeing to limit the peacetime use of experimental low-frequency sonar.

Patches and NO CD
Fates replied to a topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I can't remember for sure, but I think it was the 2nd patch that came out for SFP1 where TK did away with the CD being needed. I don't want to quote him, but I believe the general observation was that the percentage of those that would distribute his game for free was very small compared to those that wanted a NO CD solution. Money wise there was going to be little if any effect on the bottom line of sales. IMHO, a NOCD would help sales. Mainly, if people did download the WAREZ version, it still means they are interested enough in the game. This might even lead to ppl buying the game IMHO. Which would lead to buying add-on's and so forth and so forth. I've never seen where a NOCD patch hinders a games popularity or the developers bottom line. I don't promote WAREZ of any type. However, I do feel that a NO CD Patch is something that more developers should offer. Maybe even a NO CD PAtch that is unlocked with the CD Key....proof that you own it. Fates -

GERMANY (October, 05, 2005) X1SOFTWARE announces a add-on for IL-2 Forgotten Battles "OSTFRONT - DECISIVE BATTLES IN THE EAST." A new add-on for IL2/FB is on it´s way and will be released mid of October The action takes place in the Murmansk area, the only ice-free harbour, where the convois bringing in the lend-lease supplies and materials were unloaded. You will take part in large battles, intercepting bombers, etc. Fly on both sides of the so-called Kurlandkessel, where the remaining parts of the Heeresgruppe Nord fought fiercely against the Red Army. The Kurlandkessel was held until the ending of the war and made it possible for hundreds of thousands of people to escape from the war. Join the Luftwaffe, the soviet airforce, the Royal Airforce or the french regiment Normandie-Niemen in 24 campaigns. Written by Ian Boys, Christian Schulz, Jörg Wiedemann and others, X1 Software is proud to present this fantastic piece of work! Take off and enjoy! More information can be found at: http://www.x1software.com

I may have done a bit of work to make it look nice but Erik and Friends have worked their butts off getting the technical issues hammered out. Also, I'd like to thank Tim Canada for the image use on the forums. Sweet! I still have more work to do with the buttons and I hope to finish that up as fast as possible. There's a few Idears in the works so we'll have more changes real soon! Cheers~ Fates

Battle of Britain II v2.02 Update Sept 29, 2005 IMPORTANT: v2.02 INCLUDES the previous v2.01 changes. You can apply the v2.02 patch to either a stock install or a v2.01 install. Changes from boxed version v2.00 to v2.01 * Bug fixes: - Several bugs have been fixed that can lead to CTDs (Crashes To Desktop). - In-game / Windows resolution is automatically synchronized for increased stability with background applications running. - If TrackIR or Newview (et al) are detected but not enabled, the program will revert back to mouse/keyboard/POV view control. - Fix for vanishing replay-buttons. - Some lines, for example those of the Enemy Position Indicator, used wrong colour(s). - Correct handling of dummy anims (possibly caused a crash). - Do17 skin adjusted (main wing bottom). * Other Improvements: - SmoothenFrameRate changed to SmoothenFramerateMode and reworked. The default smoothens but does not limit fps. - New bdg.txt variable "NO_OUTSIDE_TRACKIR" - The bdg.txt variable OPTIMISE_OBJECTS_AT_RUNTIME changed to DISABLE_OPTIMISE_OBJECTS_AT_RUNTIME so that the old setting is ignored. The new default is to optimise. - In OPTIONS, "reflections" has been renamed to "mirror." - Optimised for framerate (mainly by going to a 32 bit FVF). Unfortunately the effect seems to be very small. - Reduced usage of video memory on 64 MB cards a bit. - Improved debug code/warnings in a lot of places. - Better lighting on individual trees. - Smoke trails further tuned. - Cannon smoke more subtle. - Engine sputter sound re-worked. - Throttle off warning sound reduced. - Brighton and Cathedral texture reduced in size. Changes form v2.01 to 2.02 - Improved framerate (fps). The effect is most marked with weather low and on computers that suffer from low fps. - New bdg.txt variable INVERT_EXTERNAL_PAN - inverts pan direction in external view - New bdg.txt variable NO_FOV_RESET - disables resetting of FOV in when resetting the view (via ROTRESET/ROTRESET2/AROTRESET) - TrackIR 6dof z-axis overrides any analog axis setting. - Made stick POV hat user mappable - Ju88 engine texture fix. - In the OPTIONS screen, changed the name REFLECTIONS to MIRROR - Enhanced explosion and flak sounds. - More realistic Browning .303 sounds (increased rate of fire). And that?s why you deserve at least a little ?thank you?. Most of all, our fans and players: THANKS! The IPB 2.0 Skins are incompatible with the upgrade to IPB 2.1 Thus....we are working on a new Forum Skin that is 2.1 compatible and I hope to have much of that done between today and tomorrow. Your welcome to view it by changing you skin to CombatAceMod2 but keep in mind that it is a WIP. Fates

NC, This is very true and something that I wish the CombatACE Staff as well as membership can hopefully change in the future. The numbers at CombatAce have more then doubled since the Biohaz days, but the communication and comaraderie that existed when it was a more closer knit bunch has sure seen better days. I think we all need to strive harder to bring back those times. <C> Fates
