Dumb question
Gocad replied to Blakrain's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Imagine the confusion had Northrop won this contract.... -

Sorry for the threadjack, but could it be that you can have only a limited number of stationgroups? Because I was unable to to split up both the Sidewinder and Sparrow stations on the F-4... -

You have split up the stationgroups, right? Also, I never realized how confusing it could be to look at the underside of a Canadian Hornet....until now. -
Choosing a skin
Gocad replied to cj95's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I haven't heard of that, but there are of course ways to preselect certain skins and markings. Which skin is used in generic missions depends on two factors. These are the textures that come with the WOV stock F-8E: The Crusader is, according to the F-8E_data file an USN aircraft, but the first texture set is for the USMC Crusader. Nevertheless, the Crusader would have by default the USNGrey2 skin. This means that the skin is choose depending on TextureSet order but also service nation (here: USN) and the service nation has the higher priority. [TextureSet002] <--- skin has a lower priority, but is chosen because it is the first USN skin Directory=USNGrey2 Name=USN Light Gull Grey 2 Nation=USN Squadron=VF162 Specular=0.500000 Glossiness=0.750000 Reflection=0.000000 [TextureSet001] <--- should be used by default, but it is not because it's assigned to different nation Directory=USMCGrey1 Name=USMC Light Gull Grey Nation=USMC Squadron=VMF232 Specular=0.500000 Glossiness=0.750000 Reflection=0.000000 -
A.I. Controlled Aircraft
Gocad replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Well...I have given up bitching about the AI, even with the mod they do not really seem to be smarter. But there is something that confuses me: I have observed frequently that Tomcats ordered to attack a specific target hit the AB, but immediately use the airbrake and keep flying like shown in the picture above... -
Official Desert Storm Annoucement
Gocad replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wow, that sounds truly impressive. But I have a question related to the terrain. Will it run on WOV? -
Tail Number
Gocad replied to F4Lover's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, you can only choose which number your plane will have throughout the campaign by changing the StartNumber in your campaigndata file Example: [AirUnit004] AircraftType=F-8E Squadron=VF154 ForceID=1 Nation=USN DefaultTexture=USNGrey1 StartNumber=0 ---> This means your plane will use the first number from the number.lst from the texture folder If you set the startnumber to '2', then your F-8 would have the number '102' instead of '100'. AFAIK that's the only way to alter the startnumber in a campaign mission. -
F/A-18F Super Hornet
Gocad replied to Marcfighter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I'm no sure whether this has so much to do with their training standards, but rather with the planes they are flying. I haven't heard much of Indian Su-30 or MIG-29 crashes... -
F/A-18F Super Hornet
Gocad replied to Marcfighter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Indian pilots supposedly call their Mig-21 flying coffins...that doesn't sound like they have a lot of confidence in their jets. IMHO the Mig 21 is an outdated design, no matter how much new stuff one tries to stuff in it. It only remains in use because their operators cannot afford anything better at the moment. Anyways, an update regarding the current status of the SuperBug would be nice. -
Where's the CVA-64?
Gocad replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
This is the entry for placing a carrier in a WOV campaign: [CarrierUnit001] CarrierType=CVA-63 <---- this is the name of the object folder, change it to the name of the folder of the 3rd party carrier CarrierNumber=64 UnitName=CVA-64 Constellation ForceID=1 Nation=USN BaseArea=Yankee Station NumSquadron=5 BaseSize=MEDIUM (!) Experience=100 Morale=100 Supply=100 Link: This Carrier could be a suitable replacement - CV59 by capun If you're using this one, just replace 'CVA-63' with 'CV59'. -
Where's the CVA-64?
Gocad replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You could also d/l a 3rd-party Carrier and alter the campaign files to use that one instead. Does WOE (without a merged WOV install) also have the texture files for the CVA63. I mean, the WOV object.dat also contains the Tu-22, but not the textures, so it can't be used. Thus having the matching textures files is also important. -
Mytai's website for downloads
Gocad replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, it's back on. Wonderful skins, although I do feel a bit bad for not restraining myself and d/l his Screaming Eagles and Sundowner skins. Btw, is it just me or is the stock WOV F-4 VMFA-312 skin a bit off? -
Adding Ships
Gocad replied to gillg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Alright, carrier groups seem not to be possible. Which sucks, especially when you're jumped by a bunch of Flankers circling over your carrier...just waiting for you to take off. But what about anti-shipping missions? How do get the program to use 3rd party ships instead of the stock merchant ships as targets? -
squadron callsign
Gocad replied to F4Lover's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It seems to me that callsigns are assigned randomly per mission, so no squadron has its own callsign anyway. Thus I doubt that this is possible. Besides, changing callsigns might interfere with the communication with ground control. Btw, you find the callsign list in the missiondata.cat -
Adding addional squadrons
Gocad posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have searched a bit, but I didn't find the info I was looking for. I have tried to add additional squadrons, so that they would be recognized in campaigns. I have extracted the squadronlist.ini and added some squadrons, but apparently the changes had no effect. Could anybody tell me what I am apparently missing here? Thanks. -
He's mine! No, mine! Mine, mine, mine!
Gocad replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, the AI is indeed capable of strange things, but I have seen closer formations... -
Adding addional squadrons
Gocad replied to Gocad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ah, that was the reason why it didn't work. Thanks! -
Adding addional squadrons
Gocad replied to Gocad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I have done that already with my WOV install, added this to the Squadronlst.ini: [squadron194] Name=No3RAAF DisplayName=No 3 RAAF Squadron Nation=Australia but still, No 3 RAAF Squadron doesn't show up at all. Could it be that program doesn't read from the edited extracted squadronlst file, but just from the squadronlst file that is inside the missiondata.cat ? -
WoV sparrow doesn't fire
Gocad replied to Tomcat_Driver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Nope, Sparrows work fine within normal parameters (see post above). -
Yeah, that is true. Their skill level wasn't high. Still, even the less experienced could have a bit more knowledge using their weapons. Is there any way how to increase their skill in a campaign?
-
Eh, not when the wingman is flying a F-14 I guess. Loaded up with Sidewinders, right behind the enemy who is about three miles away and what does he do? Tries to get closer and shoot him down with his gun. Needless to say that in most cases their gunnery skills suck. Needless to say, this was not a single event. Sometimes they do manage to follow orders and achieve something, but IMHO for the most part they are ineffective. "Cover me" seems indeed to be more effective, but not much.

KM Graf Zeppelin
Gocad replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Looks aren't everything. There is nothing wrong with the Ju87. After all, it was supposed to be the carrier's dive bomber. You can't say that of the Hs123. Anyway, the Graf Zeppelin would have been of little operational use, due to the superiority of the Royal Navy, but it could have played the same role as the Tripitz did. Btw, would it be possible to stage carrier battles like Coral Sea or Midway within SFP or WOV? -
Armed_Recon
Gocad replied to ravenclaw_007's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I think there is no specific [Armed_recon] loadout. It seems to me that for Armed Recon missions the Attack loadout is used. Do you have an [Attack] laodout? -
F-14D: No Afterburner Effects
Gocad replied to TurtleHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
It might be that you do not have the appropriate files in your effects folder. The F-14 doesn't use the stock effects.
