What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?
catch replied to Rick Rawlings's topic in WOFF BH&H2 - General Discussion
Remember he just got shackled to Dorothy. I don't think he's come up for air. That will change. And he'll be back. -
It may be premature to diss win11 before it's released. I've seen a few hombres hyper-ventilating over it recently but the same thing happened with win10. End of the world the 'puter dudes said! Sure, 10 is quirky, with "features" I'm not overly fond of and I admit I was apprehensive about switching from win7 to 10. But at the end of the day and in the morning, it plays my flight sims of choice well and that's all that concerns me.

Or .... if it's win10 try configuring Windows Media Player. In other words, just run it. Worked for me when I had a similar issue on a new rig.

Optional Cloud Mod 4.0 Update
catch replied to BuckeyeBob's topic in WOFF BH&H2 - General Discussion
Yeah looking good Buckeye. Anything that improves the flashing, flickering thing is a good thing. And those strange flat, horizontal clouds (or fog/haze?) which sends my view crazy when flying through them. On my rig anyway. It looks like you may be having a go at that from the pics? -
Xbox pfft! Although, back in the day, I did enjoy Wings of War, Mafia, Crimson Skies and Castle Wolfenstein amongst others before I got into PC flight sims. So it did help me transition ....

I remember when OBD had their own website back in the olden times. It was a lotta fun back in those early days of OFF development. Even the winding man got in the act back then! But alas they moved to established sites due to costs, upkeep and stuff. Totally understandable of course. And here we are. And over there too.

I briefly tried some of those old ww1 flight sims back in the late 90's I think. There were a heap around then and they were on sale like a cheap power ballad so why not. The graphics, FM and DM were so bad I blamed it on my PC. Not up to scratch I thought. Didn't look anything like the cover. Since then I've seen many videos of RB and similar WW1 sims of that time. Still absolutely awful so it wasn't my PC. Put me right OFF that genre until OFF phase 1 came along a few years later. Nostalgia's a funny thing ain't it? Gosh it has gone quiet. Have to talk about something I guess ....

I like to keep my trackir hat on though. Otherwise yeah baby! Woohoo anything goes! Edit: Pic removed. Erik. Dammit! I've read a few reviews saying the same thing. Bugger, I'll just get the stick without throttle before anyone else comes along to change my mind ....
-
I'm a pretty casual flight simmer (and only WW1/WW2) so don't need all the bells and whistles, just a stick and pedals with no separate throttle thing. My old MSFFB2 is still going strong but its lack of buttons and FFB issues with bh&h2 has led me to seek a new stick. I'm pretty well set on the T16000m which seems a good accurate stick with plenty of buttons, a weighty base for tabletop, good tension and at a good price. I'll be the thrust master, I tell the missus, but she just laughs whilst batting her eyes at the postie as he passes. But before the purchase, and as I'm not getting a separate throttle, how accurate and smooth is the throttle on the stick? Everything else looks good.
-
jeanba, Burning Beard thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. It's settled, I'll order the stick next week. Seems to be the best bang for your buck to me. But oh my Lord BB now you got me considering the throttle quadrant! I can see the advantage in WWII sims especially given that OBD will (I presume) begin the next phase of WotR soon. I'll think about it over the weekend and see if I can find any good deals. Money's a wee bit tight right now ....

BHAHII Missions and Campaigns
catch replied to Rick Rawlings's topic in WOFF BH&H2 - General Discussion
Lies and blatant propaganda. Unsubstantiated rumours perpetrated by Mata Hari to put the wind up .... nothing can beat the noop and spinning incinerator! You have my word as a gentleman. -
Thanks Rick. Yeah I'll be disabling the rudder twist, same as I did with the MSFFB2, coz I got pedals. Really old Saitek's but they do the job okay. You can't go back to the twist anyway once you got pedals. The throttle control on the stick is my only worry. It just looks a bit awkward to me but I'll get used to it. So it had nothing to do with that tree walking out and smacking you in the face lol? Never mind, I got speared by my collapsing undercarriage and then burnt to death. Both rather ignoble endings. But probably closer to reality than we think.

Se5a Lewis - fire separately from Vickers?
catch replied to catch's topic in WOFF BH&H2 - General Discussion
I do get your drift and I like it. -
As I have been abducted by Rick Rawlings (not his real name) and forced into the Se5a's of 40 squadron circa Winter 1917, I thought I should familiarise myself with the kite, particularly the weaponry and the new Lewis tilt feature. Now I'm prone to being very crafty at times and, if the opportunity arises, like to fire up into the belly of hostile aircraft by tilting the Lewis down so that it is positioned in an upward firing position. The question is ... can the Lewis by fired on its own separate from the Vickers? And if so, how? I just had a brief go at it with no luck.

Se5a Lewis - fire separately from Vickers?
catch replied to catch's topic in WOFF BH&H2 - General Discussion
Indeed. Well worth another listen. And yes I've said it before but what an amazing life and man was Cecil Lewis. And of course the magnificent Se5a. I've often wondered how it's performance would have fared if they'd re-engineered it to mount twin Vickers on the cowling when the Brits finally got a reasonably reliable synchronizing mechanism? Of course, it was not to be, there was a war on and money was tight and it was a case of use what you've got lads. And she wasn't a bad kite anyway. -
Silence is golden. If only hip hop/rap had been invented in those days and relegated rightly to the garbage bin before sound became a thing. Sorry, I'm off topic (again) and showing my age (again).

I was thrilled when OBD announced they would do BoB precisely because of the above statement.
-
Nope. Can't hear a thing. I've researched it. Refer to below link. https://archive.org/details/ScenesFromWINGS1927ClaraBowBuddyRogersRichardArlen
-
So maybe BoB flyable bombers for a start? I read on the WotR website that OBD intends to go right through to 1945! Admirable goal but that would be a HUGE project. Looks like I gotta hang around for another 15 years. If I can.

AI-Landing on airfield Le Clos Ferme/Boncourt, Marne with crashes
catch replied to Becker02's topic in WOFF BH&H2 - General Discussion
Yes, I think this would be the likely suspect. Glad you got it sorted Becksy. -
I'm still getting over it Troops. I'm too overcome with melancholy, depression and anxiety to post. It's all too much.
-
I don't hear them either. Should we? Perhaps just the metal bits? While we're on the subject, are shrapnel strikes considered as bullet strikes? I've had "bullet strike" appear on screen when I've been too high for bullets and I've not been under aerial attack. So I presume it's from archie?
