  1. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Lol. I was thinking the same. Strudel is a classic euphemism. You're not foolin' anyone Rick! [edit] But I must say I enjoyed your vid. And nice deadstick (conveniently next to the Convent) in horrid weather.
  2. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Congrats Baldric. Well done old bean.
  3. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

I'm very sorry to hear Cecil bought it carrick. If it's any consolation I must inform you that he was a very well liked member of RFC 40 and a jolly decent chap.
  4. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

That is a great clean shot of you on the Albies tail Troops. And I know exactly what it's like to be bleedin' out and heavily wounded! Again, my condolences. Lady luck has been with me so far but I can tell you chaps that I'm as nervous as a novice in a knock-shop every time I go up now. Or so I've heard. Enough of this lone wolf hero stuff. I'm sticking to my squadies if I can from now on. I ain't no Ball. Safety in numbers. Give those ruddy huns a glimmer of a chance and you're dead meat baby! They're mean and they seem to be increasing in numbers, blast them! I was just lucky to bounce a stray in my last mission. I have a feeling that won't last.
  5. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

1st Dec 1917 1146 hours Sortie: Whatever .... After his near death experiences, twitchy wounds and the relentless ongoing war, day after day, week after week ...., Spiv is listless, uncaring, unmoved. Another day. He sets off with B flight in auto mode on a .... whatever. Just get through it. What's the point? To kill? Or be killed? Yes, that's it. When will it end? When he dies .... He gets his first kill, drinks too much in the mess, and throws up.
  6. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Oh no! Pixie! Another gallant pilot goes west. He will be missed. Tough luck Troops.
  7. Also "Winged Victory" by Yeates. Relentless 1918 ground attack missions are described very well. No glamour there. Just extreme danger. You go bonkers and the author did. No-one relished these missions. They did it because orders is orders. If you didn't you'd be accused of cowardice, lack of moral fibre, spineless etc and maybe forced to do it at the point of a gun. It was just relentless shit. Horrible.

Ha! Something like "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe".

While we're I loved Crimson Skies. I do like those "what if" fantasy scenarios of the '30's. I was hoping they'd make an updated version but it seems unlikely blast it!
  10. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Stout work Troops. I think we'll win this air war yet. The Baron is on notice.
  11. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Nope. I was expecting it though. But after pressing ctrl+q to end the mission it went to the welcome screen for the next day. Didn't even say I was wounded? I think I may have entered The Twilight Zone and thrust into some kind of alternate universe after my near death experience in the earlier mission. Perhaps I'm a ghost. It's really spooky and freaking me out .... or it's just your everyday computer glitsch. I don't have pilot set to cannot die either. I think I may bow out and see my shrink. If I had one.
  12. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Now this is a strange one. Unless divine providence intervened, I can only put it down to my PC acting up a bit, ie to say, I was unable to take pics in-game with nvidia shadowplay? The "pics" in the below footage were snapped from video. And even that was playing up a bit. Some clips went into a "world of final fantasy" folder. So perhaps it was divine providence after all? In any event, I should have died thus bringing my ignominious career in this challenge to an end. I will leave the final decision to Rick que sera sera. In short, "Spiv" embarks on a scramble, crashes fatally, and is resurrected.

Ah memories. I had a feeling you were involved in WoW Pol but was unsure. Back in the day when one bought games from a shop I saw Wings of War and snapped it up. I still have it. In those days I wasn't a PC gamer and had the xbox version (influenced heavily by my teenage son who, thanks to his old man had an xbox and PC and was an avid gamer). RL had kept me too busy to really consider gaming until this point. But I mean, hey a WW1 flight game! I really enjoyed it, arcadish as it was. I had no idea what the modded PC version was like of course and didn't even know it existed. Anyway, not too much later I think and getting the bug, I stumbled across OFF phase 1 or whatever it was called, around 2006? This prompted me to acquire a PC that could run the thing and join in the antics of the forum (from work shhhh) didn't have internet at home then. And here I am 15 or so years later, older but no wiser, still at it. Life's a funny thing.
  14. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Simple Harry. At the bottom right of your vid on YT click "share". A link will pop up. Copy and then paste into your post. in a few seconds it will (should) embed.
  15. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Blimey Troops that was hectic. I thought that German chap with the shredded upper wing would go down quicker! So three down I reckon. Of course, it depends on the ruddy CO dunnit. As for Spivvy, he's recovering in hospital and only just avoided septicemia. Fortunately, Nurse Gladys managed to keep his blood pressure, and morale shall we say, up from dangerously low levels and he is in recovery. He is however starting to miss the slums of Melbourne. This war is a bloody slaughterhouse!
  16. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

23rd Nov. 1917 1505 Hours. Close air support. The battle of Cambrai has bogged down. 40 squadron has been charged with escorting Harry Tate's which are to bomb behind the enemy lines to create a diversion and support the campaign. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "To whom it may concern, Whilst engaged in a vital mission over Cambrai, it is my sad duty to inform you that 2nd Lt S. Taylor was severely wounded in action. Although losing blood and flying a damaged machine he managed to land at a friendly aerodrome and was immediately taken to the nearest field hospital. Our prayers are with this gallant young man. Yours, Commanding Officer Turdlington RFC 40, Bruay."
  17. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Hearty congrats on your victory confirmations and your gongs Troops. A job well done! Rick, I thought you were a goner. Toast! I'd have a chat with your ack emmas if I were you! They must have seen the engine blow when you landed. And made themselves scarce once they saw the look on your face! And Harry, (The Red Harry, nice skin) a funny report lol. But why no sound on the vid? And Baldric, good God man, that Vickers! Don't worry, you will see action soon enough! All in all some very good reports coming through and may I be so bold as to congratulate you all and keep 'em coming chaps!
  18. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Hmmm this sounds familiar .... A fine pictorial Troops. I love the pic of the colliding kites.
  19. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Of course. He turned out to be a very nice chap and got outrageously drunk. Happy to be out of it. Thanks Mfair. Yeah I do have it set to easy. It's just the C.O. .... he dislikes upstart colonials.
  20. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

19th Nov. 1917 4th Sortie. "Spiv" Taylor gets two more claims rejected by the C.O. This is becoming intolerable for young Spiv. Perhaps, he should concoct a plan with "Chuffs" to curry the C.O.'s favour, who seems to have taken a dislike to Spiv's arrogant colonial attitude. Most unbecoming of the RFC what! Survival is one thing but having three claims rejected to date begs of a conspiracy! What the heck! Bloody poms.

    Excellent work Baxter!
  22. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Nice one Stache. Good to see that sunrise and some two seaters ... and the wings flying off. Jolly good show. I noticed your lowering/raising of Lewis was jittery. Most unbecoming whilst in combat. If you want it smooth, when using the key combo's hold them down. If mapped to stick, set buttons to "repeat 2" in the advanced section and hold down. Edit: That 3 point landing was great. I must practice that.

Indeed. Who'd wanna be a FE observer. Although one of 'em gave the Baron a number 0 buzz cut. Are you mad? I guess the ol' cfs3 engine has limitations. For instance I'm not overly fond of the graphics when you suffer a minor or major crash. It is what it is.
  24. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

Stout job on your acedom Mfair. You know it's a funny thing but regarding the weather, I have completed my 4th sortie also on Nov. 19th .... (will upload later) and it were a beautiful, brisk late autumn sunny day,. You know, the ones you remember from high school days when pining for some chick you're madly in love with but too shy to bust a move ....
  25. What? A Rick Rawlings Challenge?

And now "Spiv" embarks on his 3rd sortie. 16th Nov 1917. (I've gotta move things along a bit or Rick'll get the whip out ) No vid just pics this time. So finally 2nd Lt Squizzy Taylor gets a kill but his claim is rejected. No matter, he has survived 3 missions.
