  8. Ahh, I remember that one. I was the Auxiliary Security Force Platoon Commander at NAWS China Lake from 2006 to 2009. I had my guys watching the bird overnight along with a couple of 17® Squadron personnel. When it landed, there was a large black plume of smoke and it left its targeting pod and big blue LGB's scattered down Runway 26. The Typhoon started to burn as it slid down the runway and I was sure it was going to be a total write off due to the damage I saw. Heck, there was a lot of composite material was just falling off the machine where it had burned. My I told my guys to stay away from from the aircraft and maintain their watch from upwind of the aircraft due to the investigation and the fact that the composite material was very harmful to their health. It stopped about 400-500ft short of the 4k ft marker. Anyone know it that jet ever flew again?
  9. I have not seen an Il-38 in about 11 years now, Foal Eagle 2001 I believe was the last time. Anyway heres a selection of screenies from this weekend.
  10. SFB 2011

Heritage video form the 2011 Strike Fighter Ball for all the Hornet fans out there.
  11. You're thinking of VMFA-314, not the 57th FIS that dave has posted SS's of. There is a Navy Black Knights as well... VFA-154. And now for some Tomcat Action
  12. Carrier Ops in the Strait of Hormuz

VFA-137 Kestrals are the only F/A-18E unit in CVW-2. I have not seen this paint scheme on their CAG bird before so they must have painted it up like that on cruise.
  13. F-18 + Go-Pro = Awesome

I wonder if the ECMO's are liking the performance of a relatively clean Growler as much as the pilots are... Speaking of VFA-204, I took these on Saturday
  14. What EricJ says is true. To add on to that, the only version in the USN inventory now is the AGM-65E Laser Guided Maverick.
  15. The AIM-9D is a Navy missile. The F-4C is an Air Force plane. Thats why you can not load them. Being stock you have to either unpack the CAT's or just download one of the weapons packs that has the AIM-9D in it and adjust the AIM-9D_DATA file to read as below. 18. Bottom of the Barrel, Heading to southern Texas Winging up LIFT Section Approach Now we are flying for us Bucc rolling in to bring the hurt down Gunz! Did someone say AMRAAM? Too bad ol' Dick had to kill off the Tomcat... We could have fitted at least another pair of AIM-120's in the tunnel.
  19. Yes you have it correct. From what I understand having the forward main landing gear doors open in flight creates aerodynamic problems.
  20. Doors are the same for them all. The larger forward doors are opened on the two jets on deck, most likely for ground maintenance and servicing.
  21. I get the stock Bullpups to work about 90% of the time by pointing the missile as close to exactly at the target as I possibly can and fireing from between 4 to 5 nautical miles out in a shallow dive. Anything outside those parameters has a much higher failure percentage.
  22. Mmmm, ODS looks great. Been Messing around with the Mighty Thud lately And a Reapers F-15C munching on a Flogger for varieties sake
  23. Iran displays captured UAV

One thing I don't get is why would they tilt their hand like this? If they do indeed have the capability to do this why admit to it? If I were Iranian I would want the capability to control an enemies aircraft a closely guarded secret so when the ball does drop and a shooting war kicks off I could turn their drones against them. If they do indeed have the capability, why have they not used it to capture more drones. I don't believe they have the ability to hack into the US drones. Unfortunatly, because of this incident we are going to spend billions of dollars repairing a percieved weakness, whether it exists or not. The fact that a almost intact RQ-170 literally fell into their hands is an intelligence a bonanza for our enemies. I'm sure all of Iran's closest buddies are having a nice long peek at it. The advanced computers and sensors falling into their hands is very unfortunate but the Iranian regime still needs to be watched closely.
  24. I'm not sure if this has been posted and I'm also not sure if its a fake but it is interesting to watch.
  25. Unit: Bravo Company 1/227 AVN "Reapers" Mission: Armed Reconnaissance A/C: 2x AH-64D Longbow Apache First Attack is in the fight. Reaper 21 and Reaper 22 took off from Kuwait Intl on an Armed Reconnaissance mission hunting for Iranian military assets along the roads south of Ahvaz. An orbiting MQ-9 Reaper had spotted a convoy of vehicles departing an Iranian military facility earlier in the morning. Upon our arrival on station the MQ-9 crew back at Creech AFB in Nevada that was monitoring the convoys progress immediatly vectored us to the area to prosecute the targets. Knowing of our distaste for civilian collateral damage the Iranian forces are trying to use civilian vehicles to transport weapons and supplies to their forward forces near the boarders. After an initial pass on the convoy which drew fire fron AK-47's fired by the passengers of a couple of the vehicles, the offending vehicles were terminated with extreme prejudice... easy money. We were then vectored to the southeast and directed to dispach a cargo ship berthed in the port facilities in the river that were confirmed to be carrying both light and heavy weapons manufactured in China. As we transited to the south we ran afoul of several mobile ZSU-23 and Tor-M anti-aircraft units. I directed Reaper 22 to attack the ships while I dealt with the ground threats. After clearing the area and damaging the Ship Reaper flight returned to Kuwait Intl with slight small arms damage to Reaper 22.
