Love the F6F, but does anyone else think it's roll rate is a bit lacking? Seems I get out-rolled even by Zeroes, which had notoriously poor roll rates. Otherwise, I think the Hellcat is a sweet ride. Anybody know how to up the roll performance on that sucker? -

Gents, I missed the boat on all the prop stuff and am way behind on all the need to know items. What's the stallmoment= tweak? I would really like my Corsairs, etc. to stop falling out of the sky. -
Good WWII Birds?
gbnavy61 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wondering what some of the better WWII birds are out there? Most specifically, I'm looking for a good Navy F4U and Spitfire (any Mk, but I prefer the Merlin engined birds), but I am interested in others - particularly as I need German and Japanese planes to be targets. Thanks, GB -
Good WWII Birds?
gbnavy61 replied to gbnavy61's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Not sure how I missed Wolf's WW2 pack. Must have been too focused looking for particular planes. But, I have seen your various couple hundred mods, I was just stymied looking for the original a/c. Got the original F6F-3, and your -5/-5N. Though, my current favorite is the F4F-4. She's got great visibility over the nose. Landing that is easier than any plane to date. I'll check out the plane pack. Thanks, Wrench. -

Well, like they say - you fight like you train. But, perhaps the training rules need review. -

F-14A typical loadout in air-air combat?
gbnavy61 replied to Erwin_Hans's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Why not? May not be very likely, but it's certainly possible. Maybe Vampyre can correct me, but I thought ordnance carried in the tunnel had minimal impact on performance. I thought the aerodynamic penalties were worse with big things like the Phoenix being loaded on the glove stations. -

Gustav, are those shots cleaned up after the fact, or are you rocking a great graphics setup? Either way, very nice. -

Takeoff pitch up in WOE/ WOV
gbnavy61 replied to Happymeal's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've noticed some rough takeoffs in F-4s, fully loaded, without afterburner (gotta save gas). You'll have to pull back a little forcefully to get the jet off the deck, but you're about a half-inch of stick movement from stall. Overdo it, and you can depart and come right back down into the runway. As it is, most times you're hanging on the stall, feeling the buffet. Setting up your game to use pitch "trim" could help with easier rotations/liftoffs. I noticed flying the TMF Crusaders that about 5 "clicks" of aft trim will let you have a nice, smooth rotation - with or without using burner. For your issue, maybe a little forward stick trim will help. Set up trim by going into one of the config files and adjusting the keyboard inputs for pitch (and roll - helps trim the jet after you sling off some ordnance). Basically, you want to disable the re-center feature so that once you hit the key to deflect the stab/ailerons, it stays in that position. Adjust the sensitivity to your liking - smaller values are better for the fine tuning, but too small and you'll be trimming forever. I don't remember all the specifics, but I think it's in the KB somewhere. -
Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam is Released!
gbnavy61 replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Anyone bring TMF Crusaders into this one or SF2? I like the vis from the stock F-8 pit a little better, but I do loves me my TMF 'Saders. I figured out the decal thing, but one little glitch remains. The position/nav lights all appear as white, instead of green and red. Not sure where to go on that one. Any ideas? -

Those look really nice, Stick. Are they touched-up after the fact, or are those straight from in the game? -
