In the ATC - "Bad News, Sir; the fog is getting thicker" "And Leon is getting LAARRRGERRRR"

According to MSNBC, "flying on a helicopter in iraq is dangerous"; since I have done that a few times in the last year, should not be any harm in riding on the eggbeater! And since they will no doubt be out in my neck o' the woods, I may get the chance. (I am just a lowly civilian contractor, so we ride whatever the he|l the military lets us, and it beats the hungover looking eastern european pilots that fly the charters!)

Falling in love with the F-8 Crusader...
GASCAN39 replied to F-4PhantomII's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Over the Beach is an excellent book, I read about three times. Dick Bellinger was my favorite character in this book. He seemed to be a wild man. Another excellent read is "Phantom over Vietnam", John Trotti, he puts you right in the cockpit during some of his missions. My hat is off to the USMC aviators that always seemed to be at the bottom of the parts distro list in the Phantom community. Things that would have deadlined USAF Phantoms were just par for the course for Mr Trotti's squadron, VMF-314! -
Ty Webb (As sung to Lacey) - "I was born to love you..... I was born to.....lick your face..... I was born to rub you, but-you-were born to rub me first...." "My dingie is bigger than your whole boat" "Whoa, now I know why tigers eat their young"

Carl - "Oh, Mister Gopher, it's me Mister Squirrel, I'm not some kind of plastic explosive or anything" - Ty - "You do drugs Danny?" Danny - "Everyday" Ty - "Good Boy" To this day I love this movie, walked around quoting from it in high school, having not even seen it yet. And I curse the person that released that trash sequel!

Can't wait to get the Aussie A-4, German F-86, and the VMFA-321 F-4. You folks that do these decal/skin sets are talented, and I admire all the hard work! I can't even start on a campaign, cause every time I turn around, a new scheme comes out for one of the planes and I just HAVE to fly around with it! -

Absolutley awesome. I don't fly the F-104 much, but that skin/decal set will entice me! Can't wait to get the Aussie A-4, German F-86, and lo viz F-4 scheme. Keep up the great work! -

Think tiwaz was doing this skin for the F-4C/D. I remember seeing a preview of it, but never saw it released. Will it be done soon? -

That would be great. I think it is a pretty awesome paint scheme. Loved the 141st schemes also. -
Thoughts and prayers for a safe return. That goes for all our folks out there on the tip of the spear. and in the immortal words of Wyatt Earp in Tombstone: " You tell them I'm coming, and hell is coming with me"

141st TFS "Tigers" skin is up
GASCAN39 replied to Tiwaz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I must say I believe this one is my new favorite skin of the E models thus far. BEEYOUTEEFULL! -
Had the sad privilege of witnessing a missing man for a pilot and wso killed in Egypt in 1980. The funeral was at a cemetary next to my neighborhood close to Moody AFB GA. As today, the four F-4s came from behind the crowd, and #3 (I assume) pulled up hard and was a little more impressive than the T-38 doing it. (I think they all had wing tanks too, not bad) People in the neighborhood were thinking of filing a complaint with Moody, Till I told them what the missing man was, and the fact that the guy lived around the corner from all of them, and they changed their tune. That phantom pulling up hard gave me goosebumps

For the record, Bush was through with his speech, and back in the crowd standing next to his wife looking skyward. I must admit, I would have liked to see the planes as everyone on camera was looking at the sky for them. They came from behind the crowd and startled the President.

ID THIS PHANTOM
GASCAN39 replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yeah, seen pix of the single seater. The GIB came later. Hence the derogatory name for the F-4 "Double Ugly". Drones regularly were/are flown by aircrew for test purposes. I don't know if the same crews fly it from the ground for live fire exercises or what. I do know a Tomcat shot down an RF-4C by accident over the Gulf of Mexico. It was a training exercise, so the 64 million dollar question was, why the hell was the Turkey carrying live missles? Both crewman escaped unharmed, and were plucked from the gulf by the Coast Guard I believe. Happened in 88 or 89. -

"Q" signifies drones. I am not an expert, but I guess they rig 'em up with hardware to fly it from the ground, and use 'em as targets. A fate no F-4 should be subjected to, in my opinion. Been to Tyndall AFB in Florida, and seen a flight line full of Air Force E and G models lined up for the same fate. -
