No TCP/IP option available
Weasel Keeper replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Lam...errrrrr....Gamespy and Hyperlobby are great for looking for others, but being in a squad it would be great to be able to just say to squad mates "join up on my IP". I haven't seen it as of yet, but when my squad used to fly USAF we used GS and HL too, but eventually you get punks who like to get everyone riled up and it's not quite as fun. Sometimes just avoiding the servers and flying with the guys is the best fun. I vote TCP/IP be included. -
I just had to post this screen
Weasel Keeper replied to kris's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Might try hitting autopilot and then switching views for the shot if you want to survive post screen shot next time. Great shot btw! -
Love your quote Skylark! If you're new to flight sims, but thinking about getting into it, I'd suggest just grabbing up a new one that's going to be around awhile. There may be easier sims to learn with, but in the long run you'll be left behind since everyone else is moving foward. Plus, you think your wife's mad now...just wait until you're hooked into flight sims! You'll eventually want the best in video cards, sound cards, CPU speed, top of the line HOTAS, etc.... Welcome to the flight sim world! <S>

Just trust the words of the wise Hollywood. 8) Hang on and strap in...it's gonna be a good ride.

f100
Weasel Keeper replied to CrazyAggie05's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Might want to check out the thread about learning your aircraft and systems. ;) Actually, when I first found out about this sim I was in it just for a great F-4E. When I started actually flying this sim I found that I really like the F-100D. I guess just learning how to fly some of the pigs is the challenge for me, and now that I'm learning it I'm digging it. :) It might not be the best as far as agility, but she sure is solid. -
Skeptical of buying..

There are a couple big mountains on the map and rolling hills, I'm just not sure exactly where since it's a huge map. These are seen more frequently in multiplayer since you spawn in that area. Helping out TK and team with flight models and avionics are a few real life fighter jocks. Two that come to my mind are (ret) LtCol Andy Bush who flew F-104s and F-4s in Viet Nam, and Scroll_87FIS who is currently a Major in the AF who trains German crews on F-4Fs in New Mexico. Andy admits the F-104 has a flaw or two...namely the reverse rudder, but the aircraft are pretty close to the real "feel" and the radars are almost spot on. I'm not a huge "prop" guy although I've flown WWII Fighters and CFS2, but I wouldn't see any problem with prop heads learning this game. It's pretty much the same...but faster. ;) My opinion...and I see it's been shared in a couple replies already...even with some of the bugs, this sim is a blast and just fun to fly. :D -
HyperLobby beta for SF1?
Weasel Keeper replied to Vex's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just remember it's a beta and the link is bound to change from time to time. :) Jiri never stops working. -

Order this game? Can my PC hack the Graphics?
Weasel Keeper replied to Darky's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If it helps, here's my computersaurus: P3 500Mhz 256MB RAM Win 98SE GeForce4 MX420 64MB Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer Dx 8.1 On my machine it runs pretty smooth with half the graphics turned down to medium...like terrain. I can run my aircraft's graphics on high and hardly any stutter. I would guess your machine should be just fine. :D -
So, whats so amazing about strike fighters project 1?
Weasel Keeper replied to white_rabbit's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hehe, I said "airaft"! -

Other than the modding community, there is no Viet Nam in this sim. What makes this sim special to many is the era of the aircraft (60s-70s). There have been some good WWI, WWII, Korea, and modern jet sims, but the airaft of the 60s have been mostly overlooked before. This sim you can fly the F-100D, F-104G, A-4, and F-4s. Plus we've been waiting awhile for a good sim. :) -
List of most common bugs found so far
Weasel Keeper replied to MadJeff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I can't help you with all of em, however the F-100D and F-104G have a "spring" tailhook. Once lowered (or sprung) it had to be manually raised. The A-4 and F-4 have hydraulic tailhooks that can be raised or lowered mechanically. :) -
How to do multiplay at gamespy.
Weasel Keeper replied to Ripper998's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Truly sorry about that TK, I wasn't aware that it was just the beta area until I read your post. I had been waiting for a confirmation at the beta boards and kept reading at public boards that people were unhappy about not being able to fly multiplayer. I know how important MP is to me so I thought I was helping. -
The State of Flight Sims today?
Weasel Keeper replied to MadJeff's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
I've been trying to talk TK from Thirdwire (SFP1) into making Longbow 3 since he was a big part of LB2!!! Haven't heard anything back, but could you imagine an updated LB sim! :D An updated high quality chopper sim needs to be made soon. It's kind of nice to hop around different airframes to fly. That's about the only reason I have FS2000...just to fly the Ranger. ;) -
I run 800x600, but that's because the wife has trouble reading 1024x768. Standard would be the two I listed, plus one higher (from what I've seen at wallpaper sites) My desk is 800x600, but most of my games are running 1024x768 or higher.

http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2002/q...nr_021018m.html Just when you thought they had done every crazy looking aircraft (F-22, F-117, B-2) here comes another. :) Looks like I'm not allowed to post images from Boeing's site, so I won't.

This is what was written under a pic I was going to post: These images are available for editorial use by news media on boeingmedia.com **disregard, I misread and thought they were copywritten** :D It was the high res pics I couldn't get because I wasn't a member.

Mod Squads? Odd Squads? Your Squad?
Weasel Keeper replied to Injun_01's topic in Virtual Squadron Chat
Fates, you're right. I hope to see an online community like what we had with JCN. There will be a few "flash in the pan" squads like there were in USAF, and I hope to see some of the other old squads rejoin the fold like the WP, 414th and others join in from other sim communities. "Air on two Chief!" "Stby...rgr, air on two!" -
What U.S. add-on plane would you like to see first?
Weasel Keeper replied to MadJeff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Gotta have the Thud (F-105)! :) Just for fun FACtor...hehe, I'd eventually like to see an OV-10 Bronco, OV-1 Mohawk, and/or an OA-37 Dragonfly. Being that my virtual flight squad is taken from the real 87th FIS, I'd think that an F-106 would be good...however I don't believe it would be very realistic in a dogfight since it was designed as an interceptor. :? **edit** Ooops, I didn't realize F-106 wasn't listed, but the F-102 is and it's the same thing...lol. -
Mod Squads? Odd Squads? Your Squad?
Weasel Keeper replied to Injun_01's topic in Virtual Squadron Chat
As far as the old JCN community, the ODBs, GFA, and the 87thFIS look like they're (mostly) all in. :) We're trying to get TK to give Jiri a shot at Hyperlobby, but currently only Gamespy is supporting multiplayer. Squad matches will have to be re-worked I think. Match at first to 10 could take all night. I flew with Big Beer and it took us quite some time to even find each other. <S> -
Screen Shots
Weasel Keeper posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey MadJeff, I think I tried to upload some SFP1 screen shots. Let me know if it worked...lol. I tried to upload from my computer, but let me know if they have to be from my website instead. (disclaimer...my "website" is nothing but screen shots...no actual website to speak of...just a host site...lol) Here's a teaser: -
The State of Flight Sims today?
Weasel Keeper replied to MadJeff's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
I think flight sims are just clearing a hurdle right now. A few years ago they were selling like hot cakes...couldn't keep them on the shelves. Then everyone (software companies) wanted in on the action and started pushing out sub-par sims just so they could get thier slice of those profits. Well, we know with fan sites like this and others that the word gets out pretty fast how crappy a sim is and folks quit buying them. Developers are getting the message now by visiting fan sites to see what people want in a quality sim...and are designing around this info. I think the new line of sims expected out is going to help a lot to breathe new life into our hobby again...and hopefully be a blueprint of sims to come. I agree with Fates too, online multirole sims are going to start being big too. -
Just wondering why I get an error message at times when I post or reply. It says it can't find an email template or something like that. I don't have my preferences set for emailed replies. It's not that big of a deal, but it did make me do a double post the other day.
