<S> Slick IF I'm not mistaken, the 87FIS branched out from the 12TFS after FA and had a long "career" in USAF for about 3-4 years. 87FIS was formed by Night, Hunter, Razor, Giant, Raider, and a couple others I think but can't recall off hand. I was the XO under Hunter for about 3 years after Night retired. The 87FIS guys are kind of still around with some flying Lomac or playing AAO, but there's not much organization anymore. <S> Colonel Weasel_87FIS (ret) http://combatflightsim.net/index.shtml

Yikes! My sig is now in Swahili or something! :black eye: Oops, I fixed it...heh.

Welcome back Dutchy! I also miss the Warthog and Phantom phorums, but there was very little traffic in those anyway.

Ohhh Jeff, you got way lucky with the furnace thang! OMG I'm actually reading BLOGS! My furnace went tango uniform about two months after I bought my house. I even had an inspector tour the house for write ups and he said the heater was just fine. Two days before I'm supposed to head out for Vegas to get hitched (01/10/01) I come home to a cold house. Called the guy...he red tagged my furnace after finding a crack in the firewall. "Crack in the wha?" "Red Tag means I can't use it even after it kicked back on...and in the dead cold of January you say???". Okay, he was kind hearted. He told me he couldn't allow an "unsafe" furnace to be used, but what we did after he left wouldn't be known. Found out my furnace that was okay'd by the numbnut housing inspector was the same age as me! It was built and installed in 1966. Prolly was about 30-40% efficient. No wonder my gas bills were so high. Emergency call to a nearby HVAC guy, and about $2500 later (JUST BEFORE MY VEGAS WEDDING TRIP!) I ended up with a brand spanking new 92% efficient furnace on the day before I left for Vegas. Yeah, you got lucky.

Dagger, within a week or so of having your own account, you should have 5 invitations you can send out yourself. :)

140 gunz only FFA in the canyons no tutus and no ejecting...or make it interesting, 105s only. Man I miss JCN! Although many hardcore guys say USAF was cheesy, it was still a blast. JCN was also great with all the characters and squads who stuck together (like a soap opera at times, but was still fun) for 2-3 years. I know I always looked foward to firing up USAF and JCN at every possible opportunity for three years. I wish something would come around again that could bring so many people together like JCN did, but it's not looking good. Some of my best internet and real life friends are because of USAF and JCN. Thanks for bringing up the ghosts. :) <S> Weasy AKA in JCN: Hoosier469 (the rookie pilot), BigBalls_HO (for a few days...don't ask), Weasel_87FIS, BlackSnake (incognito after everyone wanted to kill me all the time and no other 87FIS were on ;)).

My cable company is removing our FSN Chicago from our line up and replacing it with Comcast Sports. How the heck am I supposed to watch Blackhawk hockey (if and when they decide to play again)???

WOV/SFP1 Is Lite?
Weasel Keeper posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No flaming allowed. Concerning the F-4 radar in these titles, I asked my friend USAF Col Sid "Scroll" Mayeux (beta credits for SFP1) to try to explain how the search radar worked in this "lite" sim. He worked with TK on the F-4 models and systems. He was an F-4E/G EWO and trained the German AF as an F-4F EWO instructor. Here's his reply (typical instructor). -
Congrats Zag! I recall very well having stripes "pinned on" with fists. :) BTW, what are Marines doing at Ft Irwin?
-
Unfortunately, the only F-4s flying anymore in the US are drones used for target practice. They've been retired from active duty and National Guard since around 96. The German AF even pulled them out of Holloman AFB in October to retire them. The last places flying drones I believe are Tyndall AFB in FL, Holloman AFB in NM, and Point Magu NAS in CA. The only one I'm really sure of is Tyndall. They fly manned drones for targetting practice for awhile before they modify them to be unmanned and shot down. Not to sound too negative, but it's nearly impossible to set up a ride in a military fighter. My only advice would be to contact Tyndall AFB and see for yourself. http://www.tyndall.af.mil/

Dutchy I could do some research and find out exactly where but that will take some time. I'll see what I can do and get back to you. What I do know is they both were in France and both were infantry. Both made it out without injury and lived long lives well into his 80s for one and 70s for the other...and like I said they both passed away 25-30 years ago.

Im confused
Weasel Keeper replied to TrashMan=JW='s topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
For the "static radars", as far as I can tell they're designed to and are operating just as they did in the 60s and early 70s. We are used to today's high tech radars that other sims feature that tell you exactly what you're looking at including distance, speed, altitude etc. All of the radar modes in my aircraft are showing blip returns...I just have to figure out what I'm looking at. ;) You may remember Scroll_87FIS who was a great pilot during the Jane's USAF days. He's an actual USAF Lt Col and was a long time F-4E/G EWO (Desert Storm), and was on the original beta team for SFP1. He helped TK get the radars (and other things) right at least for the F-4s in the sim. He explained how they work to me a long time ago, but to be honest he went over my head because there's a lot more to understand than with today's high tech stuff. Let me get my abacus and slide rule... -
Both of my Great Grandfathers who were WWI veterans passed away about 25-30 years ago. Good luck with your search.

Heyyyy...something's new around here! I'm member #24 to this site and haven't added anything useful? A quick look through the early SFP1 pics page has a number of my submissions.

Since this is starting to look political...Shall we start a pool about Castro??? I'd sure like to visit the Copa Cabana in my lifetime. IBTL!

Well done MJ! This should relieve any stress on TK's server so everyone can get it.

Email received, awaiting reply from them. Thanks Chain.

I heard it was at Best Buy, think I'll pick it up today! -
I'm in the Fort. What's it mean "capturing close caption" and why does it need to be done? No promises, but you can send me the info to look at. Weasel87fis at aol .com

Release Date?
Weasel Keeper replied to Foofighter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'll 2nd that. You must be thinking of another game that came out awhile back. This one was being tested FOR initial release up until a week or two ago. Except for a carrier there's little that this has? Stock A-6B, A-7, F-8, F-105, A-4F, F-4J included (as well as regular SF acft). Linebacker, Linebacker II, and Rolling Thunder campaigns from a carrier or Thailand. Every squadron in Vietnam to choose from for the USAF, USN, and USMC. Even bridges to blow up real good! I don't know why all the secrecy, but WOV is pretty darn good.
