Rugbyfan1972 replied to Rugbyfan1972's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Could someone let me know if trackir 5 has a default game profile for BHAH as I cannot see one on my new trackir (using trackir_5 final.b drivers) And if it does not could someone please supply me with an idiots guide to configuring BHAH as I have read the manual and am struggling to set up a profile. I am using windows 7 64 bit if this helps. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
Question about TrackIR
Rugbyfan1972 replied to Rugbyfan1972's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Dej, Thank you again for you help and assistance, both myself and a friend had tried to move the magnet, but it was so stiff we were afraid to apply too much pressure for fear of snapping/breaking the mounting. We have just tried to move it again after reading your post and it is now moving fairly freely. I can only assume the heat from the monitor has somehow freed it up in the mounting, or that the pin was originally stiff on the inside. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
Question about TrackIR
Rugbyfan1972 replied to Rugbyfan1972's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi, Trackir 5 arrived today, after some faffing around I have fixed the camera to the monitor using bluetack, as the stand has the magnet set at a 30 degree angle (approx), which on my TFT monitor I am unable to make the camera stand up vertically (the camera faces down at approx a 30 degree angle when on the stand, and placed on a flat surface). Could anyone else with Trackir 5, please let me know what angle the magnet on the stand is set at when the base is placed flat on a surface, as looking at the picture in the quick start guide the magnet on the base should be horizontal. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
Question about TrackIR
Rugbyfan1972 replied to Rugbyfan1972's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Dej, Thank you for your response, I didn't realise that you could configure it to that extent, I have looked on ebay, but have been burnt nearly every time I have bought something elextrical from there, so I am aiming to but from a british retailer who is selling it for new. I have checked on ebay and can see one trackir that is being sold in the uk, but it is a used one. The others ones that are on there are both being shipped from the USA so I would have to pay customs duty on them which may make them more expensive than the one rcsimulations is selling. While I appreciate Dej's response I would like to hear what other people think about trackir as well before I take the plunge. Also Dej, I like your "Pride of the Commonwealth" signature. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
I will freely admit I am not the best pilot, but after being unable to climb to the same altitude as an Alb DIII which was smoking heavily whilst I am flying an undamaged Sopwith Triplane, I have come to the conclusion that I am not the problem but the problem lies with my installation of the game. I am using HITR installed as per the instructions and patched to 1.47. The flight model is set to realistic. I used the ubisoft CFS3 DVD for the installation. I am using windows 7 64 bit. If anyone has any helpfull suggestions or fixes they will be gratefully received. I really like this game with the expansion pack, but if I am unable to solve this problem I will have to go back to 1.32 with its low level action. Thanks Rugbyfan1972

As no one else has posted it yet, I thought I had better post something to remember the ace that was James Thomas Byford McCudden, who died 92 years ago today after his engine failed on take off while he was on the last leg of returning to the front to take up a new command (60 squadron if memory serves).

BigAl56, Actually you are wrong on Mannock taking over 85 squadron on McCudden's death, I have just checked "The Aerodrome" website for Mannock's victories and he scored his first one while flying with 85 squadron on the 7th July 1918, over a Fokker DVII over Doulieu, it is according to the list given his 53rd victory, although I am one of the people who believe that Mannock scored 73 victories and not the 61 he is credited with in some circles. I have also checked wikipeadia and McCudden's own biography, which both state that he was to take command of 60 squadron on his return to france. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
Graphical errors with ATI video card

Von Oben, I have an ATI 5870 2gb version, and it also happens on this card as well. Raven if I am missing an effects .tga file please let me know where and how I can get hold of one and where to place it in the BH&H installation. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
Off not properly installed on Windows 7
Rugbyfan1972 posted a topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
I am looking for advise on how to either reinstall BHAH so that all the settings work in windows 7 or enable one of the settings. The setting in question is the invincibility one, I can enable it in workshops, but I can still be shot down or brought down by ramming/colliding with another aircraft, but if I dive into the ground I find myself back up at 2000ft. This is leading me to wonder if any other part of BHAH is broken with my installation. I have tried everything I can think of uninstalling and reinstalling (after removing the CFS folder from my documents and AppData, and clicking all of the reset/reinstall buttons in workshop. I am using HITR on a window 7 ultimate 64 bit OS and my system is as follows: AMD Phenom 3.4ghz Ati 5870 2gb 8gb ram 1.5 tb hdd 2 dvd drives (one of which is a rewriter and the one I have to install BHAH from) 850W PSU If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. It would be even more appreciated if a UncleAl could withhold the sarcasm, while giving advice. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
Off not properly installed on Windows 7
Rugbyfan1972 replied to Rugbyfan1972's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Tranquillo, Well done you have hit the nail on the head, the problem only occurs with HITR installed and not with the 1.32 superpatch and the 1.32g minipatch installed. Now I just have to somehow find a solution for the problem with HITR, because I do not have TIR, but as I am virtually blind in one eye I think I would have problems using TIR anyway which is one of the reasons I have not purchased it. Also if I fly with invincibility off I am shot down at an annoyingly fast rate. Any helpful suggestions gratefully received. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
RAF_L, Sounds like you have a keeper there, I was of course only joking about your singing, you should hear mine, even the woman at the other end of my terrace of 4 houses complains when I sing. Thanks Rugbyfan1972

Rabu, You took the words out of my mouth, I was wondering what RAF_L's wife thinks of his singing, if indeed he is still married? Thanks Rugbyfan1972

Themightysrc, His engine failed because the Royal Aircraft Factory were still ignoring all the field modifications that the frontline squadrons, in particulary 56 squadron had told them about to make it a better engine/aircraft. Also the stall speed in a WW1 aircraft rose dramatically one the angle of bank was above 60 degrees (if memory serves it rose from 48mph to 110mph, I do not have High in the empty blue handy to refer to at the moment). Also McCudden had in the seconds before he crashed undone his seatbelt and as a result had been thrown clear of his SE5A. He died 3 hours later never having recovered conciousness. The book that I mentioned above was written by Alex Revell and is a very detailed history of 56 squadron during world war one, the other book I have used as a reference for the fact his seatbelt was undone is Peter Harts' Aces Falling which is the last book in the trilogy he has written, the other 2 being Somme Success which deals with the air war over the Somme battlefield in 1916 and Bloody April which deals with the slaughter in the skies over Arras in april 1917. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
BruceD, Like RAF_L I am very interested in seeing the pictures that you took. Thanks Rugbyfan1972

All, Firstly I am going to publicly offer thanks to Von Paulus for his help and advice while I was choosing the components for this PC. Well my new PC has finally arrived after taking 19 days to build and test (custom build): 3.4ghz Quad core Phenom 8GB Ram 2GB ATI 5870 1.5TB Hard Disk DVD-Rom DVD-R/W 850W PSU Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Ok now for the serious bit, can any of the ATI users out there give me any tips on how to set up OFF for optimal performance, as this is the first ATI card I have owned (I was an Nvidia user for 10 years). I have briefly tried OFF after setting the max fps to 50 in the default directory, but in the brief flight I did I only got 31fps with everything maxed out. I realise I will get better framerates with the clouds on 1 instead of 5 and terrain on 4 instead of 5. So can anyone advise me on the overrides setting etc. Thanks Fenwick

OFF Optimized setting for 5870
Rugbyfan1972 replied to Rugbyfan1972's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Von Paulus, Thank you for the information regarding the FAQ settings, I had forgotten about them. Now if I can pick your brains regarding the windows 7 administrator setting, I keep getting "Access Denied" when I try to change text files for the various games that I have installed. I am running as the administrator, but it seems odd that I cannot save changes to files, although I can make changes to word documents without any problems. Any help is gratefully received as I have got a lot to learn about windows 7 having made the jump straight from XP. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
"Fighting the Red Baron" - UK TV Programme

Polovski, Thank you for the correction of when the Albatross DIII entered front line service, I thought it had arrived at the front sometime between feb-april 1917. I agree with the sentiment regarding the fact that they did a new programme on WW1, and it was nice to see a couple of the vintage aircraft in action, but I wish they would get their facts right. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
"Fighting the Red Baron" - UK TV Programme
Rugbyfan1972 replied to MikeDixonUK's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Some of it was good, but if they had just done their research a bit better. Particularly the following points: Where they were discussing Lanoe Hawker, and showed a SE5a and a DR1 fighting, that smacked heavily of flyboys. The fact that the albatross DIII entered service in september 1916 - I always thought it entered service during early to mid 1917. Albert Ball scored 67 kills - according to all the books I have read he scored either 43 or 44 depending on the book. The impression being given that 56 squadron operated both the Bristol Fighter f2b's and SE5's. The SE5 that they showed was in fact an SE5A. The british recon aircraft used to use a defensive circle, in that shot they were showing the wrong type of aircraft (I suspect it was the Bristol Fighter f2b again, and not as it should have been the FE2B) The fact that they did not fly one of the german fighter's of the period but in the 'dogfight' had the SE5A fighting a Junkers CL1 ground attack plane. Apart from those historical inaccuracies I enjoyed it, at least they didn't claim LVR shot Albert Ball down, and they pointed out that Voss was probably wounded before Arthur Rhys-Davids got behind him and administered the coup de grace. Thanks Rugbyfan1972 -
Ras, Another thought that may help you, I have CFS3 on both CD & DVD, when my new system arrives I will try installing the CD version first and see if that works, if it fails I will then uninstall it and try the same with the DVD version, and then report back. If you need the DVD version it can be found for as little as £10, and is in my opinion a good buy as you do not need the disc in the drive to run it. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
-
Ras, No problem, although I must admit to a vested interest as I have just ordered a new system running Windows 7 (currently running XP). Another thought, do you have any old games with directx9c on the dvd/cd and if so have you tried installing it from the disc, it is a long shot, as you have probably done this already but I am just spitballing at the moment? If I can get BHAH running on my new system I will post and let you know how I bypassed any problems. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
-
Ras, I assume you have tried installing BHAH and then playing it, as opposed to trying to play CFS3? Thanks Rugbyfan1972
-
Surely he should be using the drum of the front lewis as a seat? Thanks Rugbyfan1972

Carrick, I agree, providing it doesnt' mean starting in 1918 flying an EIII, DH2 or early Nieuport, or the equivalent 2 seater variant. LOL Thanks Rugbyfan1972

How good is the ATI 5850 2gb graphics card
Rugbyfan1972 posted a topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Hi, I have just ordered a new PC and was wondering if anyone can tell me how good the following graphics card is: ATI Radeon HD 5850 VaporX - 2 GB - 2xDVI/HDMI/DP (Sapphire) If the general opinion is that it is not a good graphics card, I am considering changing it for either the GTX470 or the 2gb ATI 5870. Also for information here is the rest of the system that I have ordered, partly with a view to playing BHAH at a better FPS and also with a view to newer games.
