  1. Seems we've reached the point where this is just keyboard masturbation. Look, Stiglr has his views, has held them for lo these many years, and these discussions just go on ad nauseaum................ without result. He makes some good points about striving for accuracy/fidelity...............but seems unable to accept that others have different priorities. An important aspect of the human condition is to do better next time. The SF world has come a long way through people learning and developing. I'm sure those who abandoned things in the early days would be amazed by today's quality. Onwards and upwards.
  2. Yes, I know it's obvious, but my ultimate point is that not every one is Stiglr. You can rant and rail all you like about quality....... as you see it. Others see differently. Unless the modding world is subjected to the Stiglr Modding Police For Quality Control........................, things aren't going to change, and I'm puzzled that you can't see this. What is perfection anyway? As my Father always says, never vote for a politician, and never believe the book you read last. Chances are you'll discover that today's accuracy is tomorrow's rubbish.
  3. I agree to some extent, but then to butcher an old adage, The perfect is the enemy of the good............... and another......... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Given most stuff is freeware, made with limited budgets and limited time.................... accuracy ain't always guaranteed. It's an old discussion, but if you don't like it, don't download it. Personally, I'm happy to 'make do', but it takes all sorts........................ which is the point. This community is made up of 'all sorts'. Remember Sony's 'Perfect Sound Forever', with the launch of the CD way back when. Well, CD's ain't perfect, the sound is often debatable and they don't last forever. I remember going down the road of trying to get the most from vinyl, hankering after esoteric electronics (copies of Stereophile, etc.).................. but real life, time, money got in the way. Plus, as we age, the hearing goes, so, ultimately, I'm going to just enjoy the pleasant stereo I have, without getting too worked up about ambience, presence, etc., etc. Which is where I am with the TW series.
  4. Thanks Veltro. My son is going to love this. Pretty much all that sticks in his mind about Charlie Brown is Snoopy and his Camel.
  5. This hasn't been abandoned................. just been working on a just-about-finished large project. So back to the 1950's RN.............
  6. USS Cabot question

Sorry, don't get me wrong. I'm all for Stratos doing his mod. One of the beauties of the TW series is being able to do ''what ifs"................ I've done many myself (attempting to land F-4's on a WWII MAC ship, for example). Just trying to imagine what it would be like to land jets on such a small flight deck............. and the consequences.
  7. USS Cabot question

Let's hope that "what if" Spain has lots of "what if" money to compensate for the high men and materiel attrition rates! Good luck!
  8. USS Cabot question

What I meant was, given the restrictions of Dedalo's wooden deck (in terms of construction and size) and the lack of catapults, perhaps any Spanish A-4 could be 'enhanced' in order to compensate. ......... assuming that catapults are added............... although that puts into question the strength of the deck and the steam plant required. Anyway, carry on.
  9. So Stiglr, in addition to the Targetware release, why not a TW release? Many flight simmers would be thankful. Thanks in advance.
  10. Ah, Stiglr!, So awful............... almost lovable!! Good times. Anyway, how is the Targetware environment?
  11. USS Cabot question

I wonder if you could mod an A-4 so that at launch the nose is raised to obtain a better angle of attack and thus better launch capability.............. at least visually for the game. Much like the Buccaneer or Scimitar when used with the RN.
  12. USS Cabot question

'60's Spain was still fairly impoverished. Even if she could have manned and maintained a carrier the size of an 'Essex', perhaps for authenticity, the mod might reflect that she could only afford refurbished Dutch Hawker Sea Hawks for strike duty after they ended service on Karel Doorman. I'd suggest the Sea Venom also, but we don't have one.
  13. USS Cabot question

The US offered to send over a couple of Essex class carriers to the RN in the mid-60's after the cancellation of CVA-01. National pride and difficulties surrounding operational support meant that the offer was never taken up. For a 'what-if' scenario, such an offer might provide good background for a Spanish mod (despite the difficulties of dealing with the Franco regime).
  14. Falklands Islands Conflict

The two County Class destroyers that served off the Falklands ('Glamorgan' and 'Antrim') also carried Exocet. Ironically, 'Glamorgan' survived a hit from an Argentine Exocet. I would have liked to have had Exocet working on my County model, but discovered that only one working missile was viable and I was determined to use my already-built Seaslug!!
  15. It does seem a little squished end-to-end. Perhaps you could show the plane with plan behind. Hard to tell from the most recent shot.
  16. How to Overclock a PC

Overclocking comes with crossed fingers! Good luck.
  17. Getting closer to the finish line......................
  18. Maybe have a word with Charles. He's done a lot of WWII 'FM's'.
  19. .............. I should note that she will be completed as initially built.......... i.e., with axial deck and fixings. Hopefully, I'll find the time to alter things to give her the correct Suez angled-deck look. On the other hand, as she is, she could stand in for ships of the Illustrious or Implacable classes (WWII mods). Despite being substantially larger, she has that WWII 'feel'. Which reminds me..................... Skippy any word on that Swordfish of yours?
  20. Skippy, You're right, the masts were lowered for air operations and I plan to have them that way when all is done. They're vertical for now as that is how the plan shows them.
  21. ......... another shot showing newly placed AA on the port side.
  22. Ooh! Early Lightnings!! Yum!
  23. Aside from a couple of small things, Eagle's island is done, so back to hacking out bits of the hull.
  24. Barracuda?.................... How about Swordfish!
