Martlet I
Hinchinbrooke replied to LloydNB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yep! The FAA and RAF renamed various American aircraft. After WWII, Bomber Command, awaiting replacements for its Avro Lincolns (prior to the V bombers) took on some B-29's.............. 'Washingtons'........... to keep things ticking over. -
A Call to 3D Action...
Hinchinbrooke replied to Major Lee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Well, I don't have any other buildings. I agree that just one skyscraper might look a little odd by itself, but if you find you have a need, I can pass on the model. -
A Call to 3D Action...
Hinchinbrooke replied to Major Lee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I have an old 'Skyscraper' model hanging around (based on a 30's NY building). If it can be used in a terrain, drop me a line (ignore the test paint scheme). -

Ah, Stiglr! Now, there's a laugh. Still waiting for that Meteor cockpit................. -
Tutorial: Modelling an F-101 Voodoo
Hinchinbrooke replied to Julhelm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Granted. I'm assuming that any modeller would want to use a good drawing as a starting point.................. but would make use of other references/materials and not attempt to model from a drawing alone. -
Tutorial: Modelling an F-101 Voodoo
Hinchinbrooke replied to Julhelm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Julhelm, You might want to highlight also that one should choose reference materials carefully. Before building, find the best drawing/plan you can. There are a lot of drawings out there................... and a high percentage aren't all that good, which you might discover halfway through a model. It's a real pain having to take things apart when you come across better information. -
So will Jet Thunder has some sort of sonar capability?
-
Okay, makes sense. I wasn't sure about the ASW element of the game.

Another carrier question
Hinchinbrooke replied to Typhoid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
There was a question about 'Melbourne' over on SimHQ just the other day. Gramps put the package together, but I did a quick test with the version of the ship I have (in the test mission I use.............. using the vanilla SF terrain)................. and no problems taking off (haven't tried landing). So at this point, I'm not really sure what's going on............... whether it's a terrain issue, or something to do with the ship's data.ini. -
How will Conqueror be used in the game? Unless I'm mistaken, being a nuclear boat, she was submerged throughout her patrol. In other words, she would be an invisible target............

Carrier Won't Appear in WoE campaign
Hinchinbrooke replied to bcyc's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Ark Royal was built before the last couple of patches. I'm in the process of partially rebuilding her/adding details for an updated file, but until then, make sure that these lines are present in the Ark Royal configuration.ini : [GroundObjectData] ObjectFullName=HMS Ark Royal ObjectDataFile=ArkRoyal_data.ini Also, is WoE set-up for carrier activity? The reason I ask is that Ark Royal is assigned to the "Royal Navy". If the "Royal Navy" isn't listed in the game's nations.ini, then it won't show up. -
Question regarding RussoUK's Lightning FMK6
Hinchinbrooke replied to Atreides's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You could increase the volume of the wav file using a sound editor (perhaps add a little noise/distortion, etc.)................... or look around the net for a sound example that fits your needs. -
Question regarding RussoUK's Lightning FMK6
Hinchinbrooke replied to Atreides's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Always had a soft spot for the Lightning................. and Russo's model has always been one of my SF favourites. No idea about the FM details, but she seems to 'go' alright!!.............................. not that you can spend all that much time 'going', as you pretty much have to return to base having reached service altitude! The Thunder and Lightnings website has a nice recording of an example taking off. -
Junior General is a great site. My son (7) loves their collection of paper soldiers. For our amusement, I created this..............

polycounts
Hinchinbrooke replied to grumpapotamus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
These days my system would be thought of as very low-end, but I've had three ships all approx 20,000 polys happily operating together. Of course, after you add a few aircraft, things slow down a little, but no show stoppers. -
A question
Hinchinbrooke replied to Fleet Command CC's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Fleet Command CC, Is there much going on with Fleet Command these days? I remember playing it way back when, but it didn't do a lot for me. I guess I'm more a WWI/WWII sea battle kind of person. -
Seahawk is a crap?
Hinchinbrooke replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
For a first generation jet, it was something of a success. Sure, it might not have been the most advanced aircraft of the time, but it gave the RN a reliable, decent handling fighter that had enough of a reputation for examples to be exported. Apparently, it was a joy to fly. Bunyap did a nice job. I like to take the various variants out for a spin, once-in-a-while. -
Can anyone open a 3d Studio Max Aircraft Model?
Hinchinbrooke replied to lazboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I recognize the Buccaneer at least, having perused Turbo Squid. And I should add that if it's the model I'm thinking of, the nose one doesn't look quite right. -
She won't last very long. HMS Exeter, HMS Ajax and HMS Achilles are lying just beyond those islands...............

Crusader Update?
Hinchinbrooke replied to Tantobot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No problems  A real Foch and Clemenceau would add a lot to the sim. -

What we need are Foch and Clemenceau............. something to land on.
