I like the Brisfit too. I remember blowing an Albatross D.III into pieces (guns set on "hard") after jumping it in a screaming dive. mmmm...that felt good! Yeah BnZ is the way to go in the Brisfit. It's even better after Peter01's FM mod. Though I notice now that my overzealous gunner (excitable chap that he is) likes to shoot over my head now. While I appreciate his enthusiasm, his bloody gun blocks my view whenever he does that! Isn't there a way to restrict the gunner's field of fire? ShrikeHawk

I am having trouble with the A-Team Camel. I am trying it in SingleMission and every time the mission finishes loading, FE crashes to the desktop. This is not happening for any other plane. I installed it a long time ago and I can't remember for certain if it ever did work correctly. I re-downloaded the file and installed, same result. I checked that all weapons and sounds were correctly placed, still the same result. Any ideas why this is happening? ShrikeHawk

Thanks Fellas. That did the trick!

I don't believe it was either. A literal 180 turn-in-place like that would cause a wicked stall if not rip the wings off. But the Dr.1 "was" very nimble. The whole rudder assembly turned rather than the usual vertical fin and rudder arrangement. This made the Dr.1 difficult to hold steady due to the very touchy yaw, but also very nimble. As I remember, the maneuver to get the Dr.1 turned around so fast was to climb hard and then kick the rudder bar. The plane would flip over the top of the climb much easier than contemporary fighters. Then the pilot could roll into any direction he wanted, even 180 degrees from his original course. The whole manuever could happen so fast that Allied pilots were amazed. I really enjoyed this episode. I had just been reading about Voss' fight against No56 squadron. Truly epic! Though in my research, I was looking for alternative color schemes for the Se.5. I think No56 had blue noses on their Se.5s at the time. This was before the RFC cracked down and insisted on more uniform paint schemes.

It's a little-known fact that all cars on the road in the US have a "stupid circuit" installed. It operates with similar technology used in the "panic circuits" installed in printers and copiers. The stupid circuit controls a stupid emitter that sends out wavelengths that disrupt the operation of the forebrain. This has a variety of effects including "road rage" depending on the individual. It's not effective enough to cause panic or suspicion. But just effective enough to cause enough accidents for population control. China is currently working on a deal with the US to build the devices in China and install them in their own cars. Yeah - It sounds like conspiracy theory. But people are more apt to believe in conspiracy and expect the government to fess up or fix it, rather than expect the unexpected and make contingency plans.

Seems to me that accountability is a big part of the problem. When people "know" they won't "really" have to pay for any error in judgement, they get sloppy. They stop paying attention to what they are doing or even thinking about the consequences of their actions. Because society doesn't force them to. With enough money, a slick lawyer can get you out of almost anything. Everybody knows the story about the guy who spilled his own coffee on himself, sued, and got a million bucks for it. Now you got actors and politicians doing really stupid things, blaming it on alcohol (or some other drug ), checking into a treatment center, and suddenly all is forgiven! That's not how I remember it working as a kid. We are definitely living in interesting times...

Oh Yes! I watch Dogfights religously. Especially looking forward to this one.

I think the DH.2 was called "Spinning Death" because it's spin characteristics were almost unrecoverable. I remember fighting that problem a lot in Red Baron. Right now, I get the easy controllability that the DH.2 was known for without the downside of the nasty spin. Airacobra was like this too. I guess this is a characteristic of mid-engined designs. Still if one plane could be given the wicked spin, it should be the DH.2 I'd like it if spins were possible, but if it means too many compromises to the rest of the FM then I'd prefer to live without them. I am no expert, but I would imagine that ww1 aircraft are easier to recover from a stall than ww2 aircraft. That's because the ww1 wing is built more for slow speeds and lift. These wings would require less airspeed to regain lift after it's lost. So "generally" stall recovery should be fairly easy using standard recovery techniques. Although, as Tailspin says, some will recover more easily than others.

Looks Good! We have enough early war fighters. More bombers and recon fit the bill.

Yeah, the guns were firing way too high. I made a similar adjustment. I also started to change the cockpit, but eventually opted to adjust the guns down more. I think my final value was -2.6 Otherwise, the plane is just a joy to fly! ShrikeHawk

Awaiting this with bated breath... Been hoping for it for a long time.

Fabulous Peter! I've been looking forward to these. I was fiddling with the SPAD 13 just last night. Then, I really just wanted to make some kills without fighting my own aircraft to do it. Now I can just pop your FM in and go out with guns blazing! Thanks! ShrikeHawk

Camo Skin for Nieuport17a

File Name: Camo Skin for Nieuport17a File Submitter: ShrikeHawk File Submitted: 12 Aug 2007 File Updated: 12 Aug 2007 File Category: WW1 Aircraft Camouflage skin for the Nieuport 17a with a single wing-mounted Lewis gun, August 12, 2007 by ShrikeHawk This is posted with permission from Monty CZ and whiteknight06604 who are the authors of the original skins. The really good-looking details (wood, engine, fixtures, etc.) in the skin are entirely their work. I wanted a skin for at least one of my Nieuport 17s (I have three) that has camouflage paint. This skin is for the N3 Escadrille 'Cigogne' in 1916. The camo is standard two-tone for French fighters at the time. I didn't make it pilot specific so I omitted any text on the side. I found the profile here: http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww1/f/113/21/0 Cheers! ShrikeHawk Click here to download this file -
Worn Airfield for Flanders

http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...ode=sst&id=5102 File Name: Worn Airfield for FlandersFile Submitter: ShrikeHawk File Submitted: 12 Aug 2007 File Category: Terrains Worn Airfield texture for Flanders Terrain. August 12, 2007 by ShrikeHawk First of all, kudos and credit to Tailspin for coming up with the idea for a "worn" airbase and also for finding the right file to edit. I had 3 objectives in mind when making this texture. 1. Create a used, rutted look for the airfield that has yellowish-looking grass and muddy, exposed earth patches where planes have repeatedly landed. 2. When close to, or sitting on the ground, the texture must look more complex with details to give the flyer a greater sense of motion near the ground. But this should not be too prominent at altitude. This was achieved using filter effects and applying graphic "noise" to the texture. 3. Lastly, I wanted the texture to "blend in" more with the background. This was difficult because the surrounding tiles are not the same at every airbase. So I attempted to visually breakup the edges of the texture a la camouflage so that the edge of the airbase is not readily discernable. On close inspection, you can still see the edges. But not so clearly when viewed at an oblique angle. Note: I expect this will not look so good with the standard Verdun terrain. In my Verdun terrain, I am using Edward's replacement tiles, which I highly recommend. This texture works well with Edward's replacements. Click here to download this file -
I wanted to have a camo skin for the Nieuport 17. I found this color profile on the internet and now here is the result. This is my first skin for First Eagles. The cowling looks wierd to me because it has a reflective quality (built into the model I presume) that doesn't look so hot with the green paint. This is only a 2-tone scheme. From what I've read, this is the standard for N17s at the time. Would anyone be interested in downloading this one? (pending approval from the author). Cheers! ShrikeHawk

Wow. The members here are just great. Makes me want to do even more. Sorry for the delay. I got distracted working on a new airfield texture. I am having as much fun modding as I do in the flying, hehehe. Just posted the skin. It is pending admin approval. But it should be located here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=5104 Cheers! ShrikeHawk

Different airfield texture....
ShrikeHawk replied to Tailspin's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Hey Tailspin! Thanks for coming up with this idea. Making my own version has kept me amused for quite some time, hehehe. I came up with my own version intended for the Flanders Terrain. Cheers! ShrikeHawk -

Worn Airfield Textures for FE
ShrikeHawk replied to Tailspin's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Here's my version... This one is designed specifically to work with the Flanders terrain. I went for a slightly muddier look. Airfield Before: Airfield After: Much thanks to Tailspin for figuring out where to make the edits. Cheers! ShrikeHawk -
I downloaded KMD's mission editor and have been trying it out. But I don't see a way to add a specific ground object as the target of a strike. I even looked at some of the missions I already have in a text editor and still didn't see how it is done. So if I wanted to add a drachen or a german truck as the target of a mission, how is that coded? Either directly or through the mission editor? Also - how is a mission map created? Is there a tutorial available for that? I'm interested in making one for Flanders. Any suggestions appreciated. ShrikeHawk

Christian59 posted a fix for this here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=20544 It worked for me.

Adding GroundObjects to Missions
ShrikeHawk replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Hey Gambit, This "Le Missioneur" is working out great! Thanks much for the tip! ShrikeHawk -
Thanks for the encouragement all! I think I should get permission from the original author before posting. Especially since I left many parts of the skin untouched. I only edited the fuselage and flying surfaces. Oh, and the underside is tan. At least that's how it looked in the profile. I can't reach MontyCZ since his mailbox is full, but am waiting to hear back from WhiteKnight who's skin I modded directly. I just now figured out how to edit the decals so now the skin shows the white numerals that the original profile calls for. Here's how it looks now... Cheers! ShrikeHawk
