80's Afghanistan campaign
The Trooper replied to The Trooper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Well... I am not really sure how do the countermesures work in the sim. AFAIK the real Mi-24 has 3 racks with 64 flares each which seems enough. -

I know, but it is still a good movie. That's the idea -

impossible at the time It can be simulated to some degree the same way as SPO-10 is in Paladrian's MiG-21 pits. -
MiG-21
The Trooper replied to racinglad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'd love to have a real MiG-23MLD pit with radar display on the HUD and working SPO-15 RWR. I have some ideas how it could be done in the game, but unforunately I know nothing about 3d modelling. -
MiG-21
The Trooper replied to racinglad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey, I can understand most of this Actualy it is not that bad idea to coose the MiG-29M. It's definitely better than the 16 and the pilots will surely have a lot of fun flying as agressors in NATO excersises. And they'll probably not be send somewhere at the end of the world fighting someone else's war. -
MiG-21
The Trooper replied to racinglad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes, because this will tie them to Lockheed. And if they accept the offer, guess what will their next aircraft be - F16C. And even if it is not a bad kite, it is at the end of its service life. Simply there is not much space for improvement. They would go better with something of a new generation like the EF-2000, Gripen or even the Super Bug -

The worst solution even if it is for free IMHO. -

And I suppose you are happy that your governments is not wasting any money that came from your taxes on pointless upgrades. BTW do you know what the new plane will be? -
MiG-21
The Trooper replied to racinglad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Exactly! But I don't think they got it very cheap with the LanceR. It's not very practical to make such a complex upgrade just for filling the gaps until a new airplane is available, especially when you don't heve a lot of money. Lesser upgrade like the Croatians did is a lot more practical IMHO. -
MiG-21
The Trooper replied to racinglad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I don't think they are doing this because of the 21 being better than the 23 or 29. It's just cheaper to maintain and MiG-23 is a mainterance hell (as most VG planes are). Some went even further in their stupidity throwing a lot of money upgrading the 40+ year old airframe with modern avionics and fancy color MFDs. And they've even done this without a licence from the original manufacturer. How many LanceRs have the Romanians lost in incidents? 15,16? -
It's kinda disturbing to hear the Russian Red Army Choir singing "Sweet home Alabama". Actually it sounds good! ...and I liked the tractor drumset

Su-7 cockpit

Wow! These are some really good quality pics. If it will help, I can send you translations of the cockpit labels later today, when I am not at work. -

Su-7 cockpit
The Trooper replied to kukulino's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Nice pit I have some recommendations, if you allow me: 1. There are some labels in the pit, reffering to a radar (maybe leftover from Su-15 pit). Since there is no radar in Su-7, it's better to change them to something else. 2. The "ПРОВЕКА" ("TEST") label on SPO-10 RWR is mistyped. 3. Turn off the "autopilot" and "wing leveler" lights on the system status panel, using the following cockpit.ini entries: Instrument[103]=SystemLight05 Instrument[104]=SystemLight06 ... [systemLight05] Type=RADAR_MODE_SELECTOR NodeName=systemLight05 MovementType=LIGHT Set[01].Position=0.0 Set[01].Value=0 [systemLight06] Type=RADAR_MODE_SELECTOR NodeName=systemLight06 MovementType=LIGHT Set[01].Position=0.0 Set[01].Value=0 -

Do Somewone understand Russian? New Su-35BM Cockpit Simulator!
The Trooper replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Nothing interesting actually. My Russian isn't very good but here is a rough translation: "...This is a simulator used for developing skills using the complex avionics, that will allow a single pilot to carry complex AA and AG tasks. This is a pure "glass" cockpit without analog instrumes and it is very simmilar to the prototipe cockpit of the Russian 5th generation fighter. This modernisation will make our plane superior than everything our concurents can offer..." -
MF F-14 cockpit repaint
The Trooper posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi, everybody! This is a repaint of Mirage Factory's F-14 cockpit, in attempt to give it more reallistic appearance. I've rearranged some of the lights on the ACM panel, using Lexx_Luthor's AIRSPEED_INDICATOR method. It's still WIP. Any suggestions or criticisms are welcome. Also I'll appreciate some help from those more familliar with the real Tomcat cockpit: There are three lights just right of the ACM JETT (stores jettison?) switch 1. The top one is labeled SEAM LOCK and is IRM lock light, the bottom one labeled HOT TRIG is some kind of master arm indicator. Am I correct? 2. The one in the middle is labeled COLLISION. What is it for? 3. What colour are the lights?
