My name came together when I was looking for a nick change which I had previously been using in FPS, and as luck would have it, I was given the nickname "Bill" when I got into university also by a freshman, because I knew a bit more than the average guy, about computers (in reference to Bill Gates) . But since Bill sounded so hill-billy to me, I searched for a form to make it sound better and learned about what had happened in Chernobyl (Ukraine) , and knowing that the cyrillic alphabet uses some numbers as well, I thought it was only fitting to "1337-erize" the name and hence, TX3RN0BILL was born.

You may be right about the SABOT rounds, Sky Captain, could be... As for the movie, well, this definitely isn't related to anything we've seen before in terms of Transformers... And whilst I don't disagree with the presence of the love scenes, I was more shocked to notice that Sam Witwicky was more of a jerk than "Spike" Witwicky from previous TF Lore... Some of the Witwicky family dialogue really pushes the boundary to being almost insufferable, in terms of cheesyness... And I was disappointed by the lack of charisma from the deceps (in spite of that not having to be their strength) - Frenzy was a tenfold more charismatic than "old buckethead", IMHO...

I saw it last saturday night, got a pre-preview ticket that was promoted by Chevrolet (you had to exchange a page from a newspaper to get the ticket) - well, me and my buddies went to the theater, and we loved it! One definitely noted it was a pre-preview because they had to restart the movie like 3 times because they didn't get the sound channel right... I must say I can't wait for the sequel which was already announced by Spielberg... and I was impressed, was the first time I saw an AC-130U Spectre in action, though as I saw it it was only using the 105mm cannon and the Bofors 40mm cannon, or am I mistaken? And can anybody tell me exactly which type of rounds that army guy recommended be used by the humans against the deceps? I thought I heard "Sabre" rounds but I've never heard anything of such rounds... All in all a must-see live-action mecha movie which all by itself is a testament to the glory of Transformers! And DANG, the chicks look HOT!!!

This game looks good!!! I was looking for a space game and I'm actually very inclined on getting my hands on Starshatter: The Gathering Storm - doesn't that feature seamless passage between space and planetary surface too? I was interested in it because it seems it is the most recent Space Shooter that allows multiplayer action... and it comes with a plethora of modding tools too!

THE BEST AIR TO AIR MISSILE
TX3RN0BILL replied to boris1234's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Well, that off-boresight capability may well make them superior AAMs, but to face the rear end of an aircraft and suddenly being immediately faced with a missile flying dead backwards towards you is surely something to be catched by surprise if you're not prepared - AIM-9X and Python 5 would be fired forwards and have to come about, but these "Archer-B" missiles, firing rearwards, fly straight into the path of any pursuer without needing to turn, I gather... and since I doubt that forward-firing flares exist... well, it's a lucky escape then... but yeah, I guess AIM-9X is a better AAM overall... -
THE BEST AIR TO AIR MISSILE
TX3RN0BILL replied to boris1234's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I thought the best Air-To-Air missile currently in service was the russian "Archer-B" missile which some aircraft have on pylons firing backwards? -

I must admit I don't have much experience in JO besides the MP demo, but I do have alot of OFP and some ArmA experience, and I can tell you that mission creation is probably the easiest in OFP. As for map-making, so far there are only third-party tools and the old official OFP island making tool (called Visitor, available for download for free) to make islands in ArmA, and yet some islands have already surged. PMC Tactical, the makers of the most commonly used third-party island-creating software (called WRPTool, also free for download), have already made islands that are more than 200 square kilometers large, and they haven't reached the limit yet (and these guys made islands double the size of the islands in OFP than the game shipped with originally). What makes ArmA-islandmaking different from OFP-island making is that in OFP when you made an island the whole island would load at the beguinning, whilst in ArmA, only the segment where the player is is currently loaded by the game, which allows for much bigger maps in ArmA than there were in OFP. Current max viewdistance in ArmA is 10 km, IIRC, which is double than OFP could handle at max setting. As Jedi Master already stated, whilst in OFP the flight models were simple (IMHO even simpler than JO), in ArmA flying a helicopter will provide you with a real challenge, though rudder control still needs tweaking (you loose the ability to control it at far too low speeds for it to be realistic). As for the planes, unfortunately they're currently, with patch 1.08, barely flyable, but the entire community is expecting that to be corrected. About the only thing you'll probably miss from JO in ArmA is the inability to walk on moving vehicles; it's a feature that the community has been clamoring for ever since it was demonstrated in a video of VBS1, which was a military training simulation that was based on the OFP engine and sold to the militaries of several countries (US and Australia come to mind), whilst later becoming available for the public as well, though with a hefty price tag. Curiously the feature was never implemented in the game, nor it's follow-up ArmA, nor VBS2, based on ArmA... Oh and one other thing... I don't know if it would be possible in JO but in OFP it was possible for you to go hunting pirate sailing ships in your X-Wing, or chase Santa in his flying reindeer sleigh in a UFO, if you'd like... that's just a taste of how diverse the community-developed contents was (most addons are single files which you just have to paste or drag into your addons folder, and voilà - it's ingame!) and the ingame mission editor lets you mess around with everything! (although full/total conversion mods will surely also be available) .

Do note that the 1.08 patch will not be the last one available for ArmA, according to sources... it'll probably be the last for ArmA without the expansion, whilst further development patches will be provided for the expansion, much like OFP reached maturity with 1.20, and OFP Gold Edition (which includes the first addon, Red Hammer) was patched up to 1.46. OFP: Resistance brought the game to v1.75, whilst the very last patch for the entire OFP series was patch 1.96, for Resistance. As for the expansion, I haven't even bothered yet to play through the campaign, since oppinions were unanimous in stating that it was terrible and had nothing of the OFP campaigns' flair... So it really doesn't come to any surprise that there's an expansion so soon. Nice to have now will be the new Porto desert island, which finally gives a common base without framerate hits due to the ever troublesome implementation of grass in ArmA (which is rather curious because grass, being a third-party addon available in OFP, wasn't as functional as BIS totes its ArmA grass to be, and was never that much criticized) because, as experience has shown, the most reliable contents of any multiplayer game is the stuff shipped with the game, and due to the plethora of addons that will be available, having decent base stuff will be essential for ArmA, so I welcome this expansion!

I must admit I'm a major OFP/ArmA fan, been playing it since 2001 (ever since the demos came out) and I must say ArmA is still in its baby steps compared to how OFP matured over the times... But once the official modding tools come out you'll see the community cranking out great stuff... actually, they're already churning out great stuff converted from the addons they made for OFP... As a "battlefield" game I think it rules supreme because just like OFP it gives you complete freedom to do anything... Currently with the 1.08 patch one of the worst downsides is the plane flight model, it just sucks compared even to the OFP one, though the helicopters are acceptable, except for the fact that you lose rudder control at way lower speeds than you normally do IRL...
