  1. I ended up doing weapon-by-weapon updates because I couldn't get simple overwrites to work for me. I used the MFWP as a starting point and then added other weapons one at a time.
  2. Good luck. The Thirdwire series seems to like Nvidia drivers and hardware better than any other graphics combination. For quite a while I couldn't turn on aircraft shadows because the drivers I was using with my Radeon card just wouldn't do shadows correctly. ATI finally straightened out whatever was causing the problem, but it took a long effing time.
  3. Yikes. I've never had anything that looked that bad. For me there has always been just a flash of triangular stuff at the edge of the screen, then nothing after settling into forward view.
  4. I get the effect occasionally, but it depends on what plane I'm flying. You might turn off canopy reflections and see if that takes care of the problem.
  5. It's fine they way it is, so far as I'm concerned.
  6. Well, now I feel that I can't refer anyone to the KB anymore, for fear of rubbing someone the wrong way. So I'll just take the 'walk away' option from now on.
  7. The relevant files are *probably* posted somewhere. Just Google around a bit. Be forewarned, though--the last guy I read about who tried to do what you're contemplating spent the next three weeks trying to get his computer to work right again; it made for pretty grim forum reading. With that in mind, are you getting any error messages when you try go upgrade to DirectX 9c? Maybe somebody here could walk you through the problem non-destructively. Aside: Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.
  8. I'll give this a shot: 1.) You can't change the distance at which plane models first appear to your eyes. You can, however, change the distance at which the little red and blue boxes appear. I believe the horizon-distance setting will affect the distance at which ground objects appear. 2.) The only way to change the volume of individual sounds is with a sound editor. 3.) Don't know. I know that it's possible to make on-screen elements disappear entirely with text edits. 4.) The Su-27 'Flanker' and the latest 'Weapons Pack'. 5.) Definitely up the AI to 'Hard" mode. That's about all I can think of at the moment. Tristan
  9. There's no mod of the sim game code available anywhere, and that includes anything related to online play.
  10. I'll sign on, in case I produce something worth uploading.
  11. I do backups all the time. I'm *so* happy that I have external hard drives hooked up to both of my computers.
  12. Heh-heh. It's the "when" part that motivated me to make this little update now.
  13. It's early yet. Luckily, people aren't forced to rely on just the SimHQ staff for game reviews.
  14. Under [baseSoundType] in my 'AircraftObject.ini' file there is an entry 'LandingSoundName=TireTouch'. I assume if you have the same entry, and you still don't get the tiretouch sounds, you'll have to do aircraft-by-aircraft .ini edits.
  15. Is the problem with a specific aircraft or with every aircraft in the game?
  16. Hef's nickname for Anna Nicole Smith was "Ground Zero."
  17. On the day that you were bored The angels made a flight sim....
  18. I think I can just make out the bald guy in the lab coat, with the steel claw where his right hand used to be.
  19. It's Sheila Shrapnel, aka Frieda Flak.
  20. Just a difference in spelling: "shrapnel".
  21. Mod working fine here, also, with standard textures.
  22. If it will help any, none of the Mirage Factory F-16s I have used has ever done the wingie bounce, though I don't know why. The MiG-23s in my stable with Nele's FM mods fly absolutely rock-level also; no bounce at all. Again, I don't know why that is.
  23. I wonder whether this topic shouldn't be stickied.
  24. If it's worth anything, I think the F4 would be the right plane to model.
