The Double D's
MaverickMike replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think if our guy is POW then we should be able to use him but in a later campaign. What you said about exchanging POWs makes sense. As for a leaderboard it would be a bit difficult simply because of the range of mods and settings people are going to play on. For example if one player is playing on the minimum required settings on lets say burning sands in sf2 and another is playing NF4+ in the 86 campaign with all settings on hard then there is going to be a major difference in difficulty (I dont know about you guys but NF4+ is one of the hardest mods to play) between these players. This is why I suggested that everyone fly the same campaign, only problem is some people like to fly early jets, others modern, some red, some blue etc. I think we should try and find a campaign that everyone agrees on. Maybe start a poll? Then we could change the campaign we fly every month or so to vary things up? Mike -

A2G weaponry should work just as well in hard mode as normal as long as your in the launch or pickle parameters of the weapon. What were you using in particular? I think the difference in normal targeting and hard targeting is that you actually have to have a visual of the enemy to be able to target them. (Apart from BVR missile engagements of course) Mike -

NF4+ is probably one of the hardest mods to start a DiD campaign in. Iv yet to finish one in any of the time frames. Im currently having a DiD practice run on ODS with the VF-41 Black Aces, flying the F-14A. Currently have 4 missions and 6 A2A kills. Damn I love them phoenixes Mike -
Anyone at combat ace playing Silent Hunter 4?
MaverickMike replied to MK2's topic in Silent Hunter Series
Ive been wanting to try this game for ages. How steep is the learning curve? I know next to nothing about naval warfare tactics etc and was just wondering if its easier for a beginner to play? Would this gaem be classified as a hardcore sim or not? Mike -

Oh yeah. Sorry I didnt see that you had put minimum. I guess having people playing on easy wouldnt be very fair. Shame we couldnt do this online really I.E. online campaings with many people flying during the same mission. That would be brilliant.... Mike -

Maybe it would be best to let people pick their own rules, but when they are contributing to the DiD forum they have to declare the rules they are using. Reason being is as im currently using all HARD settings it would be a bit of a step down for me to play with some things on normal. Maybe if we all pick a sim and campaign that we all agree on but everyone has to pick a different country or squadron to fly for? Mike -

MaverickMike replied to eagle-ais's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Check this out. It will explain everything. http://forum.combatace.com/topic/12137-adding-carriers-to-sfwovwoe/ Next time you arent sure about something have a look in the knowledge base first. If you can't find the answer there then its ok to ask Mike -

Ye good idea. If anyone is interested in joining in then they can declare their interest here. Then we can have an idea on the number of people who are willing to play. So if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to post. Mike -

Probably a poll for the rules. It would be fairer that way. Maybe everyone invovled has to play a number of missions each week (number tbd) Then write about them in a sort of after action report format. Maybe having to post screenies of kills in order to get them confirmed by a third party. We could then try and keep track of the number of kills people have or something? Mike (p.s when i said dedicated forum i meant dedicated thread . Dedicated forum would be a lot of work....) -
The Double D's
MaverickMike replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I started a topic about this a few months ago. I started off in the thirdwire sims with everything on easy. As I progressed through the games and started learning about the radar, lead pursuit accurate bombing etc etc I gradually increased the difficulty levels. I now play with everything on hard in a DiD envrionment. So far Ive completed 2 campaigns. Six day war in SF2:I and a desert storm campaign in the tornado f.3. For me its the only way to play now. I would be interested in joining this group if its made. Maybe we could post reports on our missions in a dedicated forum. Everyone involved would have to state the game. campaign, and aircraft they are using and whether or not any mods are installed and then we could share after action reports like the OFF guys. Would love to hear about other peoples experiences. Mike -
What's your fav method of air-to-air combat?
MaverickMike replied to jet_spud's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
IRM for me. I love beeing close enough to the enemy to be able to see them go down, but not catch any 37mm in the face. I do like a spin in the hunters however and the only kill with these aircraft is a gun kill. As for beagles I find if you fly on their 6, around 1nm away and around 500 feet below them, 3 out of 4 AIM-9B will usually hit the target (The missile will lock on to the engine heat easier against the backdrop of the sky). It usually takes 2 to bring one down however.... Mike -
Picked up my copy yesterday. Gotta say it is the most awesome singleplayer campaign that Ive ever played. Apart from the ending which I wont mention. Multiplayer is brilliant too. Anyone in the UK who doesnt have it yet you can get it for £26 at your local sainsburys store. BARGAIN Mike

The Modder Community
MaverickMike replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Didnt realise this was a 'Thank you' thread.... So a big thanks to all you guys who have made this community what it is today. It really takes someone special (IMHO) to work on something for hours on end and then release it to the public FOR FREE!!!!! All that they ask is that they get credit for their work. The good thing is if people want to give something back then they can I.E. subscription. Mike -
Been playing Arma2 a lot recently and iv gotten a knack for flying ah1z's. I was just wondering if anyone here could point me in the direction of a downloadable mission for the ah1 (apart from romeo 4 which I have already got). I cant seem to find any on armaholic so any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike

Goddamn them terrorists. They can never put up a fair fight and always resort to cowardly tactics. Glad EricJ is ok however. Thanks for the update Dave

American Constitutional Crisis - Confederacy 2010
MaverickMike replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Definitely agree with a red storm rising scenario. That would be cool. If my memory serves me correct doesnt a US carrier nearly get sunk in that book by backfires (or isit badgers). Would be really cool to try an intercept mission as an f-14 pilot to intercept them bombers..... Mike -
Im sure I seen somewhere that one of the kill perks (i.e 3,5,7 kills you get a special weapon) is the ac-130. Can you imagine owning people online with that beauty!!!!!

I cant think of a more fitting memorial to the victims. Its great the way the steel has been reused. Everytime someone sees this ship it will remind them of the purpose of the war on terror. Mike

Managed to avoid two consecutive SA-11 in my previous mission. Could not avoid the ground however...... Also the SA-8s seem to be a bit more deadly. It seems to me that they fly slower and its alot harder to avoid. Love the challenge though Mike
